Sales Abstract
1. Introduction
This document will give an overview of the functionality and look and feel of the STARDOM
Faceplate Library as available for FAST/TOOLS. This faceplate library is the Yokogawa
standard to allow for a seamless integration between our STARDOM and FAST/TOOLS
products. It also allows for an efficient and reliable engineering of an integrated
FAST/TOOLS and STARDOM system.
For more detailed information please refer to the document “GES_C0608 STARDOM
Faceplate Library for FAST/TOOLS” which contains a detailed description of this library and
to the STARDOM and FAST/TOOLS product documentation.
STARDOM is engineered with the Logic Designer application. It has a facility to program an
application in the STARDOM using the IEC611131 programming languages. Each
STARDOM application has a collection of Program Organization Units (POUs) for advanced
process automation control functions called NPAS POUs. Each NPAS POU has a
corresponding faceplate in FAST/TOOLS.
The faceplates in FAST/TOOLS are built with individual symbols elements. These symbols
are common across the library with some modifications applicable to individual functionalities.
The commonly used NPAS POUs of the STARDOM are visualised into graphic templates
and packaged in the form of pre-built library which is called the NPAS Faceplate Library.
I. NPAS Indicator.
II. Faceplate display.
III. Tuning Panel display.
A NPAS indicator displays current output/calculated PV values with alarm status and the
engineering unit. The current value indicated in the display is specific to each POUs .There
are switching POUs wherein the indicator displays shows states like ON,OFF,START,AUTO
etc.
The edge indicators display the colour coded alarm status of the function block. Edge
Indicator colours are inherited from FAST/TOOLS system wide status colour. For more
information regarding system wide statuses refer to FAST/TOOLS User/Fast Documentation.
The NPAS indicator has two states normal and selected. Normal state has a grey outline
and selected state has a green outline. The selected state indicates a faceplate is active in
the user screen. A single click on the Indicator opens up the respective Faceplate.
2.3 Faceplate
Faceplate display is activated by clicking over a NPAS Indicator. The display initiated will
provide the operator with key control features available to the NPAS block. The following
figure shows the graphic elements of the faceplate. The faceplate uses standard operating
system window decorations. It can be moved across the user screen. It can be closed by
using the normal close (X) button but cannot be minimised or resize. Overall the faceplate
graphic follows the same template across the library to have a uniform look and feel.
The configurable elements of the faceplate will differ according to the characteristics of the
function block, For example a switch will have buttons instead of vertical bar and vertical
scale, a signal selector has a vertical linear scale with appropriate range values.
The Vertical Limit Bar component indicates the High-Low alarm trip ranges. These ranges
are configurable through the tuning panel. The colours used in the vertical limit bar are
inherited from FAST/TOOLS system wide configuration. For illustrative purpose the following
scale has an even distribution of the ranges. For a different system configuration the scale is
automatically updated with the new configured ranges.

Faceplates are constructed using standard graphic components. For each Faceplate symbol
the graphic components are customised and configured to reflect their intended NPAS POU
functionality. The following figures show\ the different types of symbols and faceplates.
The above faceplates are examples of configuration possibilities built around standard set of
graphic components.
The Value area of the faceplate has built in pop up displays which allows the operator to
change tag values depending on the operational mode of the function blocks. The user has
to left click on the Item which has to be modified and a dialog is displayed for entering the
required value. The popup screen has a field to enter manually or the operator can prefer to
use the up and down arrow of the spinner component to change the value.
The selected tag has a green border around to indicate the selected state .The selected Item
is also locked by the user, so any item update by another user is not allowed until the user
closes the response. The border disappears when the popup dialog is acknowledged.
The Tuning Panel display provides the operator with extended parameter options in relation
to the faceplate. This display is shown in the following figure.

Trending Area
Figure 10: Tuning Panel
Tuning area
This area displays the detailed parameters of a function block and gives access to advanced
controls of the block type and fine tuning parameters. For instance in a PID block the key
tuning parameters like Proportional gain, Integral and Derivative time units can be adjusted.
The values can be changed by clicking on the required item, a pop up dialog is shown where
the operator is required to enter and confirm the change.
The Parameters which are editable are identified by equal (=) sign. Entries with semi colon
(:) sign are read only and cannot be modified by the operator.
Trending Area
The trending area shows the trend of the configured variables called Pen Items against time.
The configured variables are specific to each POU. The trend component has extensive
options for render, view, zoom and export trend data to external applications. For more
information of trend functionality refer to the FAST/TOOLS Trending Manual.
To access the trend menu right click anywhere on the plot area to display the trend options.
The NPAS Display library is grouped according to the functionality of function blocks:
• Regulatory Control
• Arithmetic Calculation
• Sequence
• Foundation FieldBus
