Gather

The raindrops that children have created are placed around a candle sitting in a pot of
water in a circle. Children one at a time collect their raindrop and give it to their parent
when he/she arrives. Children who don’t have a parent in attendance can give their
raindrop to the teacher and take it home at the end of the day. As parents are arriving,
the video of the chant circle prayer is playing in the background.

Listen
The educator reads the Gospel passage below. Children who have been allocated dress
up and perform actions to accompany the Scripture story.
The Baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17)
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. John
would have stopped him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to
me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to
fulfil all goodness.” Then he allowed it. And when Jesus had been baptized, just as
he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove and stopping on him. And a voice from heaven
said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”

Reflect
The educator invites the five children who volunteered to share their petition prayers to
stand up where they are. The children go around in a circle and are assisted to read
their prayer by the educator or education assistant.

Go Forth
A child is chosen to remind the families to find one way to save water in their house
during the coming week. Everyone sings ‘Splish Splash’ by Mary Rice Hopkins.
