IIT Kanpur, an Institute of national importance, has been in the forefront of engineering & technology education
and research & development. The Institute derives strength from its philosophy, vision and values that has led to

for suitable Indian Nationals for appointment on regular / deputation/ contract basis for 5 years (likely to be
confirmed, subject to noteworthy performance) for the following posts:

Mode of Appointments : For the posts of Deputy Registrars, Assistant Registrars, Assistant Executive Engineer
and Medical Officer on regular basis, or on standard deputation terms, and for all other posts- on regular basis/
deputation/ contract basis for 5 years (likely to be confirmed, subject to noteworthy performance)
Age : For Group A Posts (Sl No.01) preferably below 50 years and Posts (Sl. No. 02 to 04) preferably below 45 years,
Group-B Posts ( Sl. No. 05 & 06) - 18 to 32 years and Group- C Posts (Sl No. 07 & 08) – 18 to 27 years. The
age will be calculated on the closing date for receipt of applications. Relaxation in age would be admissible as per
Central Government Rules. Regular employees of IITs who are educationally qualified and otherwise eligible can
be considered for the recruitment across the whole IIT system up to a maximum of 50 years of age.
Note: (I) Those who have already applied for the post of Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrars against our
advertisement No.2/2009 published in the Employment News dated 08/08/2009 need to apply again.
(II) For Regular Employees of IIT Kanpur with excellent service record, appropriate relaxation can be considered.
The essential, desirable qualification and experience for the above post(s), as per serial number, is as under:
Essential: Master’s Degree with at least 55% of the marks, or its equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the UGC seven-
point scale; along with-
(a) 5 year’s of administrative experience as Assistant Registrar, or in an equivalent post, OR (b) Nine year’s of
experience as Assistant Professor in the AGP of Rs. 6000 and above, with experience in educational
administration, OR (c) Comparable experience in a research establishment and/,or other institutions of higher

Desirable: Candidates should have leadership qualities and requisite experience in one or more of the
following areas: Accounting, Auditing and Financial procedures, OR Administrative matters including Legal,
Recruitment, Establishment, OR Academic matters such as conduct of examinations, maintenance of student
records, award of scholarships, degree, etc., OR Materials Management, Procurement/distribution of materials,
import procedure/ stores accounting, stock verification, etc. Practical experience of using relevant software’s in
related areas is essential.
Essential: Master’s Degree with at least 55% of the marks, or its equivalent grade of ‘B’ in the UGC seven-
point scale along with good academic record.
Desirable: Minimum 8 years experience in one or more of the following areas: Accounting, Auditing, Financial
procedures, Administrative matters including Legal, Labour relations & laws, Public relation, Recruitment,
Establishment, Academic matters such as conduct of examinations, maintenance of student records, Estate
02 Management, Materials Management and Import procedure, of which at least 5 years in a
Supervisory/Superintendent capacity in the (pre-revised) pay scale of Rs6500-10500/-,or PB-2,Rs.9300-34800
with Grade Pay of Rs.4600/- in a Government, Semi. Government, Financial/ Commercial organization, reputed
recognized University/ Technological Institution of national standing etc. Computer literacy and ability to work
independently will be preferred.

Essential: A 1 class Bachelor Degree, OR equivalent in the field of Civil/ Electrical Engineering with relevant
experience of three years.
Desirable: The Candidates should have experience in the field of civil works viz. construction and maintenance
03 of multi-storey RCC framed structure buildings and roads, public health engineering services and works such as
water supply and drainage disposal appropriate to a township, CPWD procedures and knowledge of computer
application and structural design software(s) would be preferred, OR the candidates having experience in
construction and maintenance of H.T. and L.T. lines, internal electrification of buildings shall be preferred.

Essential: MBBS including completion of compulsory rotating internship followed by at least three years of
experience in a recognized hospital, OR Post-graduate diploma in an appropriate branch of Medicine plus at

least one year experience in a recognized hospital, OR MD or MS in an appropriate branch of Medicine.
Desirable: M.D. (Psychiatry)/ DNB (Psychiatry) with three years experience after post graduation.
Essential: M.Sc. / B.Tech./ B.E. in appropriate field, OR B.Sc. with 02 years relevant experience, OR MCA with
01 year experience, OR 03 years diploma in Electronics/Computer Science/ Glass Blowing with three years
relevant experience, OR ITI with 05 years relevant field experience in the pre revised pay scale of Rs.4500-
7000. Knowledge of computer applications.

Desirable: 1 class Diploma in Electronics with minimum seven years of experience in electrical circuits/ power
system/ power electronics/ measurements/ instrumentation, controls, electrical machines/ semi-conductor
devices, OR Configuration and Management of Router and L2/L3/L4 Switches, Network Management,
Management of Internet lease Line, Management of Linux and/ or Windows Application Server and PC Lab.
Desirable knowledge in the field of DNS, Proxy, Web and Mail Servers, Wireless Network, Web Designing, OR
(i) Two years training course in scientific glass blowing from training centers of Govt. scientific glass blowing

training centre Guindy (Chennai), TIFR Bombay, BARC Bombay, NPL Delhi and CSIR Institutions. (ii) five
years experience of working under an experienced hand in a well-equipped glass blowing section, OR
Specialization and experience in one of the following areas: Metallography, Materials Testing and Electron
Microscopy. Good communication skills will be an added advantage, OR (i) Specialization or experience of
working in electronics equipments (ii) Experience of working with Mechanical/ Vacuum/ electronic equipment in
a Research Lab/ Educational Institute/ Industry, OR Knowledge of computer applications on PC based data
acquisition and programming using Lab view. Sound knowledge and experience in one or more of the following:
(a) Strain gauges and associated bridge circuits, (b) Strain conditioning amplifiers, (c) Accelerometers, (d) High
speed oscilloscopes, (e) Material testing equipments like UTM, Impact testing setup etc., (f) Convective ovens.
The candidate should also demonstrate aptitude for hands on work in laboratory environment.
Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering/Electrical Engineering with at least 01 year’s field
experience, OR Diploma in Civil Engineering/Electrical Engineering with 03 years field experience. Knowledge
06 of computer applications.
Desirable: Candidates with operating knowledge of structural design software(s) shall be preferred, OR
Candidates with operating knowledge of design software(s) for lighting shall be preferred.
Essential: B.Sc. in Physics/ Chemistry/ appropriate field, OR Diploma in Engineering of 03 years duration in
appropriate field, OR ITI with 03 years experience. Knowledge of computer applications.
Desirable: Diploma in Electronics with 03 years experience in electrical circuits/ power system/ power
electronics/ measurements/ instrumentation, controls, electrical machines/ semi-conductor devices, OR (i)
About three years experience in the area of geotechnical lab/ field testing. (ii) Bachelor’s degree in Earth
Science/Geology, (iii) Some experience in running geological experiments, basic knowledge of computers, OR
(i)Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems. Should be able to install Linux/ Windows and other
common softwares or PCs. Should be able to do fault diagnosis in PC and printer hardware. Must have
07 knowledge of networking. (ii) Must have worked in large networked environment. The installation should have
had at least 40-50 PCs and workstations. Must have experience in dealing with users, OR Experience of
working in a chemistry laboratory and maintaining and repairing chemistry laboratory based equipments.
Experience with computer (use of windows and windows-based platforms), OR 03 years diploma in
Engineering + 01 year experience. Other desirable qualifications and experience may be as follows: (i)
Experience/ certificate training in fabrication, repair and flying remote-control and control-line aeromodels (ii)
Diploma in computer programming and applications (iii) Inventory management and book-keeping (iv) Placing
Purchase Orders (including imports) (v) Good communication skills (vi) experience in assisting workshops/
classes in aeromodeling.
Essential: Bachelors Degree with knowledge of computer office applications.

08 Desirable: 2 class, Bachelors Degree with minimum 2 years of relevant experience in handling Accounts/
Audit/ Purchase/ Import/ Legal/ Establishment matters.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES

01. For appointments, preference will be given to Physically Handicapped candidate(s), even where
the reservation is not marked and suitable PH candidates are available.
02. The OBCs are required to attach the Caste Certificate in the format as prescribed by the Govt. of
India. The Institute follows the Central list in the case of SC/ST & OBCs.
03. Although the vacancies have been shown discipline-wise for internal administrative purposes, the
Institute reserves the right to assign the selected candidates elsewhere and appointment will be
offered accordingly.
04. The candidates applying for more than one post must use separate Application Form for each post
(along with required demand draft in original) and send them in separate cover super-scribed
with the name of the post applied for. However they may use the photocopy of the Application Form
[There are two types of Application Forms – one for Group-A (Posts at Sl. Nos. 01 to 04) and the
other for Group-B&C].
05. Persons serving in Govt./ Semi-Govt./ PSUs, should send their applications either THROUGH
PROPER CHANNEL or should furnish a NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE at the time of interview.
They can, however, send an advance copy along with DEMAND DRAFT in original.

06. Requirement of experience is relaxable at the discretion of the competent authority in the cases of
SCs and STs. The Institute reserves the right to relax any of the qualifications/ experience in
exceptional cases of meritorious candidates. Higher initial basic pay may be given to exceptionally
qualified and deserving candidate(s).
07. The Institute reserves its right to place a reasonable limit on the total number of candidates to be
called for test or interview. Fulfillment of qualifications per-se does not entitle a candidate to be
called for test or interview. The Institute reserves the right not to fill up the posts, cancel the Advt. in
whole or in part without assigning any reason and its decision in this regard shall be final.
08. The selection process will generally consist of written/ trade test and/ or interview. No TA will be
paid for written test. However, the candidates called for interview will be paid 2nd class sleeper rail

fare (for the posts at Sl. Nos. 05 to 08) and 1 class/ AC-III rail fare (for the posts at Sl. Nos. 01 to
04) for to and fro journey by the shortest route.

09. Applications should be accompanied with a non-refundable demand draft of Rs.100/- for the posts
at Sl.Nos.01 to 04 and Rs.50/- for the posts at Sl. Nos. 05 to 08, drawn in favour of “THE
REGISTRAR, IIT KANPUR” payable at SBI, IIT KANPUR. The issuing date of demand draft
should be within the duration of Advertisement. Demand Draft will not be refunded or re-adjusted
under any circumstances. No other mode of payment will be accepted; and such applications will
be rejected forthright and the payment made shall stand forfeited. SC/ST and Physically
Handicapped candidates are not required to submit the demand draft.
10. Incomplete applications/ without relevant supporting enclosures/ without prescribed demand draft/
application not on prescribed form will be out rightly rejected. Institute will not be responsible for
any postal delay. Interim correspondence will not be entertained or replied to.
Prescribed application form can be obtained, free of cost, either in person or by sending a self-
addressed envelope of 28 cm x 12 cm size bearing postage stamp of Rs.10/-. The prescribed
application form and General Instructions to the Candidates for other essential conditions can also be
downloaded from the Institute’s website: www.iitk.ac.in/infocell/recruitment. The completed application
must reach the Institute on or before November 30, 2010.
