Dear Parents,

Well, it’s been another busy week here in the High School! This week, our Seniors who are enrolled in
the full IB Diploma Program were able to breathe a sigh of relief as they submitted the final draft of their
Extended Essays – a 100% submission was recorded on Wednesday. The Extended Essay supervisors will
now be working hard, picking through the essays with a fine tooth comb in order to give as much
constructive advice as possible before the final copy is required in late January. Well done Seniors and
EE Supervisors.

A huge and well deserved Congratulations also goes out to the student participants of last Thursday’s Rex
Navarrete’s concert as part of the 90th anniversary celebrations. We were serenaded by the Show Choir,
we tapped and clapped along with the Jazz Band, then watched Dance Co. dance the dance of the
century (well almost the century – 90 years of it anyway!). Well done to all our girls and boys and to John
Mulhall, Tom Nazareno and Yek Barlongay for bringing out the best in our student performers. Oh, and
Rex was also quite good!

This weekend, our IASAS participants again head away from Manila to take part in the Rugby (Jakarta),
Touch (Singapore), Tennis (here in Manila) and Golf (Bangkok) exchanges with the other IASAS member
schools - Good Luck to all our athletes. Play well, do your best and above all, enjoy yourselves.

Congratulations are also well deserved to our Varsity Boys Soccer team who managed to make it to the
final of the RIFA Soccer Championships. They performed well in the tournament and managed to end the
competition as runners-up. Well done boys!

Looking forward, the Grade 9s and 10s will have their end of semester exams next Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday (November 24th – 26th). They’ll be sitting exams in Mathematics, Modern Languages, Sciences
and Social Studies. For more details, please see the schedule in this bulletin together with the student
examination guidelines.

I hope you have a pleasant and relaxing weekend.

High School Assistant Principal

FROM THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE:
Dear Parents,

If you will be withdrawing your child(ren) before the start of the second semester or at some other time before the close of this school
year, please read the following information carefully.

Withdrawing from International School Manila

First of all, we are sorry that you will be withdrawing, or not re-enrolling, your child in International School Manila. We hope, however,
that their stay, whether for one semester or for many years, was enriching and rewarding academically, socially and emotionally.
In order to make the withdrawal process go as smoothly as possible, we would like to remind you of the following:

STEP 1: Please come by the Admission Office to fill out, sign and return a Withdrawal Notification Form. The form is also
available on the ISM website to download and print and it can also be faxed back to the Admission Office at 840-8489.

STEP 2: If the student will be withdrawing BEFORE the last day of this school year, parents or students need to pick up the following
forms from the Admission Office (or download and print the appropriate form):
 The Withdrawal Clearance Slip should be taken to the indicated teachers and offices for signatures.
1. High School Student Withdrawal Clearance Slip (Grades 9-12)
2. Middle School Student Withdrawal Clearance Slip (Grades 6-8)
 For elementary students, the elementary office will handle the withdrawal clearance form for them.
 To receive the child’s YEARBOOK, if withdrawing before the end of the school year, complete and return the correct form
to the child’s school office for follow-up.
1. Elementary School Yearbook: ALAALA
2. Middle School Yearbook: SALINLAHI
3. High School Yearbook: KAWAYAN
 Note that school transcripts and records will be available from the particular school office approximately 5-working days
after the child’s last day of attendance at ISM. Please coordinate directly with the particular school office if you
require other arrangements.

STEP 3: When completed, the Withdrawal Clearance Slip must be taken to the Accounting Office Cashier. Only after the
Accounting Office Cashier has received and signed the completed Withdrawal Clearance Slip will the child’s transcript or school
records be released from the Elementary, Middle or High School Office. Please note that one copy of the transcript is provided free
of charge, additional copies cost P100 each, payable at the Cashier’s Office before release. Please coordinate directly with the
particular school office if you require more than one copy of school records.

STEP 4: The refund of the Facilities Upgrade Deposit (FUD) will be available approximately 15-working days after the signed
Withdrawal Notification Form, by the parent, is given into the Admission Office. However, in any event, it cannot be released
before the child’s last day of attendance at ISM and the completed Withdrawal Clearance Slip is signed by the Cashier. The refund
check can be picked up from the Accounting Office Cashier only upon return of the original signed FUD certificate. Note that the
refund of the deposit shall only be made to the person or authorized company representative whose name appears as the certificate
holder on the certificate. Please call the Cashier if you have any question about this.

Please allow the withdrawal process to go smoothly by starting the process early. Thank you for your help and understanding.

If you need help searching for a school at your next location, please try one of the following websites:
 or use a search engine and query ‘independent school search’ or ‘international school search’ or ‘private school search’ for
example

Again, we hope that your child has had a successful and enriching stay at International School Manila and we wish you and your
family the very best in the future. If you have any suggestions or comments about Admission, School Life, and/or Withdrawal, please
do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Gary W. Jerome Margie Endelman

“WHERE THE CHILDREN ARE”:

A Photo Exhibit By Ms. Gizela Gonzalez-Montinola, an ISM Parent
Where the Children Are started out with a wish to get to know better
the children of our country, the Philippines. We felt it important to be
able to listen to children, often unheard, and in so doing allow them to
tell their stories: a girl who dances in the mountains, a boy who
embroiders piña cloth, children who sell sampaguita, who scavenge for
trash, who dive for coins, but also who play classical violin under the
trees. The majority of the children here live under trying conditions.
Yet they face each day with a steadiness and lack of resentment many
adults would be hard-pressed to muster.

THANKSGIVING TRUNK
For every P1000 purchase made, National Bookstore and the PTA will donate a Study Kit of supplies (with you named
as Donor), to the ISM Service Learning Program. A total of 600 Study Kits are allocated for this project.

All these plus….

FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICE:

STUDENT EXAM GUIDELINES:

Examination Guidelines for Students

Before the exam

1. Be at the exam venue at least 15 minutes before the start of the exam. Familiarize yourself with
the exam seating plan posted outside the venue, so you will know where to go when you enter.
2. You must be in full school uniform, and may be denied entry to the exam if you are not. You must
have your school ID with you. This should be placed on your desk for the duration of the exam. If
you do not have your school ID you should proceed to the High School Office where you will be
supplied with a temporary ID. If you fail to supply an ID you may be denied entry to the exam.
3. If you arrive up to 30 minutes late, you may still sit the exam but will not receive any extra time.
4. You may (should) bring water to the exam, but no other food or drink.
5. Bags should be placed at the sides of the exam hall – however, given the shortage of space,
students are advised NOT to bring a bag, but instead, any materials not needed for the examination
should be safely stored in their locker. Mobile phones and IPods should be placed in the bag and
SWITCHED OFF.
6. Pencil cases may only be of the clear plastic type so that the contents are completely visible.

In the exam room

1. No talking once you enter the exam room.
2. Only take the materials you require for the exam to your desk. (Make sure you do have placed your
phone or iPod in your bag and it is not in your pocket).
3. You may take with you a book which is unrelated to the subject for which you are being examined.
(this may then act to fill time in case you finish the exam early – after you have thoroughly checked
your work)
4. Put your ID in front of you on the desk.
5. Do not touch your exam paper until told to do so.
6. If you have a question then raise your hand and a proctor will attend to you.

Attendance during exams

 On the exam days you do not need to be at school unless you have an exam. Please be aware,
however, that you may not leave campus between exams, so if you have two exams you must
remain on campus for both. If you leave campus you may not come back.
 For examination sessions which span Wednesday to Friday, students will not be permitted to attend
team training on the Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings of that week. There will be
optional training on the Friday evening. Note that if you choose to go to this Friday training, you
must remain at school after your exams that day. If you leave campus you may not come back.

Tips
 Make sure that you know from your teacher in advance what materials you will need for the exam
(calculator, pens, pencils, etc.).
 Get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and stay hydrated!
 Bring a sweater as some exam venues may be cold.
