GAMES & SPORTS
Like any other school, sports are also an important part of our curriculum and our athletes
have always brought pride to our institution & our students have participated in various
National and International Olympics and won 135 Gold, 106 Silver and 70 Bronze
medals in various disciplines
INTERNATIONAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS
One of our students, Maryam Dar won the first Gold medal for Pakistan in
International Special Olympics (USA) in 1995. In the Asia Pacific Special Olympics in
China in 1996, Abid Ali of Rising Sun Institute won 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals for the
country. In International Olympics (USA) 1999, our athletes won 2 Gold and 1 Bronze
medal. In 2003 International Special Olympics held in Ireland 7 students of Rising Sun
participated & they won 3 Gold, 7 Silver & 3 Bronze Medals. In International Special
Olympics held in China in 2007, 9 students participated and they won 4 Gold, 3 Silver & 6
Bronze Medals. In 2004 our student, Imran Khan, won a bronze medal while playing in a
MUSIC
Music is the food for soul and for these special children music is used as part of
their therapy. A music class is held daily and almost all the children participate & enjoy
REACHING OUT TO THE PARENTS
At the end of every term, the parents of these special children meet with the
teachers and other professionals of Rising Sun Institute who work with their child and
together they review the child's progress. The aim is to make the child learn each and
everything according to his/her Individualised Education Plan (IEP) and also to discuss
the problems the child might be facing at home.
VOCATIONAL TRAINING
In order to achieve our aim of making these children confident and self-reliant
citizens, we have a vocational training section. In this important section we train them
in manual skill in different trades which include:

Cutting & Stitching Cooking & Baking Leather Work
Knitting & Embroidery
We are planning to have a separate Vocational Training Centre with sheltered
workshop for older students to provide employment to them. It is envisaged that the
institute will not only pay them for their work but will also provide accommodation for
them. There are a number of children who have learnt these skills and are now working
as teaching assistants at the Institute itself.
OUR CAMPUSES
THE NEW CAMPUS
To provide the best possible training, education and support to
special children, Dr. & Mrs. Tawwab envisioned setting up a
specialized purpose-built campus with all facilities to cater to
different kinds of Intellectually impaired children. The Defence
Housing Authority Lahore donated 8-kanal plot to Rising Sun
Institute on which this important campus has been built. The campus
comprise of three floors and is going to be the largest, most well

This campus is providing self care training, individualized
educational programs, religious & computer education to all and
speech therapy to almost 60% of its enrolled students. There is a
modern well equipped physiotherapy department, two sensory
integration therapy rooms and a hydrotherapy pool. These facilities are
providing relevant therapies to children with associated physical and
sensory disabilities. One of the most important department is
Vocational Training Department which has well trained and
experienced training staff. The ultimate vision & objective of the
institute is to give children the skills so that they become self reliant
Presently the new campus of the institute cater to 214 regular

enrolled children, 36 special children being looked after in its home
based rehabilitation program. The institute has qualified teaching staff
and caring support staff of 162 members who are all committed to
their work.
The new institute will accommodate 300 special children and
will provide a complete range of specialized services to these
children.

Mughalpura Campus
THE MUGHALPURA CAMPUS
In order to facilitate the children from Northern part of Lahore,
a new campus was opened in Mughalpura in September 2003, with
thirty five children. Most of these children had to commute every day
from those areas all the way to Defence. The endeavour was to serve
them at their doorstep. The Institute is now providing training and
education to 110 special children in the Mughalpura campus.
Mughalpura and the surrounding localities, which have more than 3
million people, have hardly any institution for special children. The
campus was established in a one kanal building which was acquired at
a total cost of Rs. 3.25 million and it now has most of the facilities a

 OUR SERVICES
ASSESSMENT OF THE CHILD
The objective of the management is to provide customized education and
training to each and every child. For this purpose, every child is thoroughly assessed by
a team of professionals. Before admission, the child is carefully examined by a
paediatrician and then put under the observation of a clinical psychologist for a specific
time period. With the help of various mental & physical performance tests his/her
capability is then assessed. The child is then placed in different groups, i.e., play group,
junior group and slow learners, according to his/her intellectual level, age and learning
capabilities.
INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PLAN
There is one senior teacher and an assistant teacher for every group of 5-6
children and within a group, each child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to
meet his or her own requirement. The emphasis of the plan is to teach the child well-
designed academic and social skills needed by the child in daily routine. All these skills
are taught and practiced in real life settings.
SPEECH THERAPY
A large number of these intellectually effected children suffer from speech
problems. Rising Sun Institute therefore places lot of emphasis on Speech & Language
Therapy so that these children can communicate their needs and wants. Our team of
well trained and experienced speech therapists help these children to overcome this
problem in a scientific manner. These special maneuvers are carried out on one-to-one
basis to make the child comfortable and not to be influenced by his/her surroundings.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Many children also suffer from associated physical disabilities. Our team of fully
qualified and experienced physiotherapists help these children to improve their
posture, self-control and hand and eye coordination with the aid of different
equipment and exercises.
DAILY LIVING SKILLS TRAINING
The programme focuses on the teaching of basic skills of self help & independent
living to these special children. This is the first step in their training towards making
them self-reliant individuals. They are taught about personal hygiene, and the skills of
dressing and feeding.
COMPUTER EDUCATION
In order to keep pace with today's technologically advanced world, all students
are given basic computer education. Our computer teacher has a Masters degree in
Special Education with qualification in Computer Applications and knows the
children's level of understanding. Computers have proven to be a very helpful tool in
expressing a special child's imagination and talent.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
This is another important component of our programme. All children are given
basic religious education. The children not only learn to pray but also about other
important aspects of religion. Chapters (Surahs) from Holy Quran are also taught to
students who have better learning capabilities.
SOCIAL & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Children are encouraged to participate in various social and cultural events, as
this improves their self-confidence. Our students have won a number of prizes
through participation in Naat, tableau, and painting competitions. Besides these
activities celebrations of Eid, Independence Day and other important occasions is the
tradition of our institution and children from both the campuses celebrate these
functions together. Our children have also participated in a number of TV programmes
to raise awareness about issues relating to special children.
HOUSEHOLD CHORES
Making the children independent and training them to be self sufficient so that
they are not a burden on their families is the aim of all teaching activities taking place at
Rising Sun. Our curriculum places special emphasis on teaching the children, both boys
and girls, to do every day household tasks like cooking, cleaning, dish washing, etc.
These chores not only instill in them the habit to be clean and orderly but the
associated movements and actions are also a good form of exercise as many
such children are physicaly handicapped as well.
SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Rising Sun Institute holds summer internship program in month of July every year
simultaneously at both of its campuses. During this internship program young girls and
boys from different institutions join Rising Sun Institute as volunteers. This serves a dual
purpose as children at Rising Sun Institute gain new friends and learn to associate with
other people and on the other hand the interns learn about these special people and
