Second Sunday of Advent Christmas Schedule 2010

All Day Confessions: Sat., 11 Dec. 9:30 - 5:00 pm

In this week's Gospel and next week's, our
Advent preparation for Christmas invites us CHRISTMAS: THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD
to consider John the Baptist and his Friday 24 December
relationship to Jesus. In this week's Gospel,
Matthew describes the work and preaching 5:00 pm Christmas Vigil Mass
of John the Baptist. John marks the conversion of those 4:30 pm Carols
who seek him out with a baptism of repentance. John's
baptism can be understood as an anticipation of Christian 8:00 pm Night Mass
baptism. In this passage, John himself alludes to the 7:30 pm Carols & Choir
difference between his baptism and the one yet to come. In
the context of Matthew's Gospel, today's passage is
11:00 pm Night Mass
followed by Jesus' baptism by John, an event that is attested
to in all four of the Gospels and appears to have been the 10:30 pm Choral Office of Readings
start of Jesus' public ministry. Saturday 25 December
8:15 am Cantor
John's preaching of the coming of the Lord is a key theme 9:30 am Children’s Choir
of the Advent season. As John's message prepared the way 11:00 am Chorale
for Jesus in the first century, we, too, are called to prepare 12:30 pm Choir
ourselves for Jesus' coming. We respond to John's message
by our repentance and reform of our lives. We are also
called to be prophets of Christ, who announce by our lives, HOLY FAMILY
as John did, the coming of the Lord. No Anticipated (5:15 pm) Mass
Sunday 26 December
We do many things to get ourselves ready for our Regular Sunday Mass Schedule
celebration of Christmas: purchase gifts, prepare Christmas 8:15 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 12:30 pm
cards, decorate our homes. John's call of repentance in
preparation for Jesus reminds us that our repentance is
another way in which we can prepare for the Lord's coming NEW YEAR’S: Solemnity of the Mother of God
and our celebration of Christmas. Our parish offers a Friday 31 December
special opportunity for families to participate in the 5:00 pm Vigil Mass
Sacrament of Reconciliation by offering All-Day Saturday 01 January
Confessions next Saturday, December 11th.
9:00 am & 11:00 am
Families are encouraged to talk about how John reminds
the people that they prepare for the reign of God by THE EPIPHANY
reforming their lives. As a family, prepare a simple No Anticipated (5:15 pm) Mass
reconciliation service in preparation for Christmas such as Sunday 02 January

your family Advent wreath. Read again today's Gospel:
Matthew 3:1-3. Invite each family member to pray silently, 8:15 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 12:30 pm
asking God to forgive their sins. Pray together an Act of The Christmas Season ends with the Feast of the Baptism
Contrition. Then celebrate God's forgiveness by sharing a of the Lord on Sunday, January 9th.
Sign of Peace with each other.
