Working with illustrator

A series based on a photograph of a landscape using Adobe Illustrator.

The original photograph was used as the first layer, then using the pen tool
outlines of the major shapes starting from the background to the foreground were
created. All the shapes were organized in different layers according to each object.
Using the eyedropper tool the color from the original photograph were given to the
shapes representing those of the photograph. The gradient tool was used to add
dimensions and the transparencies were altered to add more depth. In order to create
different variations in the composition the colors were changed, adding different
emphasis on certain areas. Various brush styles were used to create a more stylized
images.

warm-up exercises

A set of exercises done in class before starting drawing projects. The drawings were
done to experiment with the drawing pad so as to become more comfortable with the
new tool. The brush tool in Adobe Illustrator was used to make lines in different
directions; different sizes and styles of brushes were also experimented with.

lines and teapots

A series of teapots drawn though a drawing pad in Adobe Illustrator using the brush
tool. Teapots where drawn by long lines to create shapes as opposed to
using lines to outline the figures. To create the dimensions the darkest and lightest
areas were put in on different layers, the overlapping of the darks and lights
created middle tones. Most of the teapots were created in black and white
resulting in different middle gray tones. The colored teapots were made with one very
dark hue of a color and a very light hue with several varieties of the hues in between
to portray the middle tones. Different brush styles and sizes helped create more variety
in line.

Hats & Tutus

A series of hats and tutus created through a drawing pad in Adobe Illustrator using the
brush tool. The hats where made against a neutral gray background drawn only using
black and white. The layers tool was used separate the black shadows and white light
sources. As more layers were added the middle tones of gray formed from the overlap-
ping of black and white. The tutus were drawn in the same manner with the exception
of the tutus drawn with colors, in which dark hues were used from the darks and light
hues for the lights and middle tones were created by hues in between.
