Select English is a group of language schools in London and
Cambridge. The Select English group is owned and directed by Mervyn
and Helena Martin. Mervyn and Helena founded Select English
Cambridge in 1992 and developed it into a very successful language
school, which is respected worldwide. In 2003, Mervyn and Helena
decided to expand the business and bought Angloschool (founded in
1961) in Crystal Palace, London, which is now Select English London.
Mervyn and Helena are both very dedicated and committed to the
business and try to ensure that every student’s stay is a successful, safe
and enjoyable experience.

Adult Courses
January to December – ages 16+
General English
Our general English courses run all year round and students can start any Monday. The
length of the course is up to the student. Students can study from a minimum of two
weeks, up to a long-term course of three, six or even twelve months. We offer a choice of
15, 20 or 25 hours of General English per week. All lessons are 60 minutes.
Levels
All students are given a level test on their first Monday and will be placed at the
appropriate level. Most weeks we offer six levels including elementary, pre-intermediate,
intermediate, upper-intermediate, advanced and advanced plus.
Please note that we do not offer group classes for beginners. Beginners are required to
take one-to-one lessons until they reach the right level to join our elementary group.

Level
Students must be at least upper-intermediate level (according to our placement
test) to join the IELTS preparation course.
Examination
The examination can be taken as part of the course, but it is not compulsory. The
IELTS test can be booked through us and is available at a nearby test centre most

Dates
We offer exam preparation courses for the FCE and CAE exams in March, June
and December. The exam preparation courses start 9-12 weeks prior to the exams.

Tuition
The FCE and CAE exam preparation courses are a combination of 10 hours FCE or
CAE preparation and 15 hours general English per week.
Level
For the FCE exam preparation course students have to be at upper-intermediate
level and for the CAE exam preparation course students have to be at least
advanced level.
Examination
The examination can be taken at our school as part of the course, but it is not
