“Forever After”

After ‘Breaking Dawn’

Written By: Maggie Ades
Renesmee…

I stood at the stove cooking diner for Jacob who would soon be home and ravenous.
Ever since that awful day when the Volturi came, things became peaceful and quiet. Mom and
Dad stopped worrying as did all the others not only did they now know I would live forever with
them; Alice came back making us all the more joyful.

“Nessie?” Jacob called from the front door “Nessie are you in here?”

“In here,” I called

He walked up to me and I turned to give him a hug, and then turned back to his dinner. He
looked starved then as if to back up my assumption his stomach snarled. I giggled.

“What’s for supper?” he asked sniffing at the air “Lasagna, good I’m starved”

“I thought so” I told him taking it out of the oven and putting it on a hot pad. He quickly started
reaching for it. “Let it cool” I scolded him lightly smacking his hand out of the way. He just rolled
his eyes and went to set the table. I was so happy when Esme built us a house of our own it
could get aqward at my parents house sometimes but although I knew they missed me I wasn’t
far and I knew they needed time alone sometimes that wasn’t something I always got seeing as
the wolves preferred my house to the others since mine didn’t smell nearly as bad to them. I
didn’t mind having them over just as long as they left before 9:00. A knock on the door
interrupted my thoughts. I figured it was probably Leah. She wasn’t nearly as cold-hearted as
she used to be and oddly enough she had the least antagonism towards me versus the rest of
my family. “Jake can you get that? My hands are busy.” I asked him and he went to open the
door.

“Hi Jake, where’s Nessie?”My mom asked

“Hey Bella, in the kitchen. I got to tell you she sure picked up your cooking talents.” Jake
bragged. He did love my cooking. I guess my mom was a good cook too. She came in and gave
me a hug.

“Hey honey how are you?”She asked worriedly. Ever since I got pregnant my whole family got
worried probably expecting a re-run of my mom’s pregnancy. I shuddered I had only heard
stories of what I had done to her but it was enough to send chills down my spine. Misreading
my shudder she looked even more worried. “I’m fine, just thirsty. Jake is taking me hunting
after he eats.”
I served him and he snarfed it down, so guess it must be good. I had learned to eat human food
and even to like some of it but I still preferred blood. Just then another knock on the door came
to me I sighed and got up to answer it.

“Hello Leah, there’s lasagna on the counter if you want some.” I told her hoping she wouldn’t
mind that my mom was here.

“Thank-you Renesmee, I think I’ll have some “she replied hen sniffed and started grumbling
about Bella.

“Hello Leah,” my mom said in her most innocent voice. “How are you?”

“Fine.” She said possibly a little too harshly.

Be nice. I told her with my thoughts. No longer did I need contact because I had practiced with
Mom so I could project like her, she could even lift the shield with ease now but she kept it a
secret because she was going to tell Dad for his human birthday that she insisted on
celebrating. Leah sighed bringing me back to the present

“I wish I had something to do, things are always so boring.” She told my mom trying to follow
my instructions.

Jacob got up to put his plate in the sink; I would wash it when we came back. “Leah, me and
Jake are going hunting. I’ll let you stay here to finish your plate, just put it in the sink when
you’re done.” I told her as me and Jake walked towards the front door.

“I’ll come with you.” Mom said. She got out her phone and called Dad asking if he wanted to
come too.

“Have fun.” Leah said as we left.

If Seth comes tell him I said ‘to help himself’ to the lasagna. I thought to her. I think I saw her
nod. With that we ran a little slower for me even though I was only a couple of days pregnant it
was more a subconscious thing.

“Leah seems much happier.” Mom said with a smile, she was so compassionate she would even
feel good about those who didn’t even treat her well themselves.

“Yes, partly because she is around Jake’s happy thoughts all the time I would think that would
have an affect on her.” I told her it was just a theory but I saw Jake nod so I guessed I probably
more right than I knew, he had changed into his wolf form and had aught up with us quickly
probably because of our speed decrease. I caught a scent and followed it as Mom went in
another direction towards her cottage I thought to get Dad. I ran towards the scent as my love,
my future, my life trailed behind…

Chapter 2

I yawned a huge, deep yawn and everyone around me started trying to convince me
that I should go home and get rest. It was quite annoying being treated like a baby again; I was
smarter than most adults. I scowled at them and they stopped.

“Honey, you don’t want to stress yourself too much.” Rose told me concern coloring her voice.
“Fine.” I sighed I really was tired and at least at home no one else would tell me about their
concerns. Jake followed me out the door ,but instead of running I chose to walk. Jake and I
weren’t married but we were having a kid, Alice constantly asked me to let her do my wedding
but I didn’t want one… not yet at least. I was happy the way things were, and although I
wouldn’t say it I thought if we got married then things would change for the worst I imagined
my mom’s wedding Alice said it was beautiful, so did Mom I imagined her walking down an isle
of flowers with her arm in Charlie’s, then suddenly I wanted to see Grandpa. Jake would
understand, he liked Charlie and especially after he got over Jake’s revealance of werewolves
things just got easier. I also knew Mom would want to come, Dad too. So as I made these plans
I felt a little like Alice because I felt like knew what each person would say; yes, yes, yes. So I
asked him even though I knew the answer “Hey Jake?” I started innocently mostly just
practicing I slowed down a little more so the others would hear. He looked to me so I continued
“I want to see Charlie can we have him over at the big house soon?”

“ Ummm that isn’t my house you know.” He told me. I smiled I could already hear Alice rushing
to us.

She rushed over with a smile she knew it had been planned so she answered me as if I had been
talking to her all along ,which only she,Dad,and I knew, “Of course Nessie! Oh this will be great
he’s missed us you know he’ll be here tomorrow at,” she paused searching for the time; I
helped her by deciding for Jake and me to arrive late. She smiled at me, “Thank-you, 10:00 in
the morning.”

“Okay we will be here at 10:01 then.” I told her smiling I already couldn’t wait. She kissed me
goodnight and dashed away. Jake and I continued walking, and then running I wanted to be in
bed sleeping so that all the sooner me would see Charlie. We go to the house to find it vacant I
turned on the light and saw a note on the fridge. I picked it up and read it.

Hey, thanks for the lasagna it was great! I put what we didn’t eat in the fridge, and washed the
dishes for you I figured you have enough on your plate already…ha hat’s funny I need to
remember that one. Anyways, goodnight! 

~Seth&Leah~

I put the note in the trash. Seth was such a good kid. I went upstairs to change into my
nightgown and go to bed. Jake was barely awake as I climbed into bed and fell asleep in his
arms. I did not dream and when I awoke I felt more refreshed than I had in a while. I slipped out
of Jake’s arms and ran downstairs to start his breakfast I had a large elaborate breakfast
planned and even included some items that I would eat. I had planned on having a brunch with
the pack and was in need of distraction this was just the thing to get me there. As I was flipping
some pancakes onto a plate Jake finally came down. He looked at me sheepishly and I
wondered what trouble he had caused.

“Sorry I’m late getting up I was just so tired.” He spoke in almost mumbles so I believed him.

“That’s okay, I’ve just been cooking then he looked to the massive breakfast I had so far it was
probably enough to feed a family of eight but I wasn’t done yet. I knew how much of an
appetite the wolves had. I heard someone outside the door come on in but don’t start eating
yet I’m not done cooking. I thought to whoever it was when Sam and Emily came in I smiled I
should’ve figured they would be first. Emily smiled to me

“Here let me do some of that honey, you’re not even dressed.” She told me taking my place in
the kitchen. I flew upstairs and gabbed a pair of jeans and a sweater. I hurriedly got dressed
knowing it was impolite to have a guest do the cooking Esme had given me lessons on manners,
and I was embarrassed by how I was acting. I ran back downstairs to reclaim my spot. Emily
helped me cook as more and more guests came. It was good my house was bigger than my
parent’s house because this many people wouldn’t fit in there.

“Hey Nessie! Did you get my note last night?” Seth asked as saw me.

“Yes Seth, that was very kind of you. Thank you.” I told him sincerely. He just smiled and went
to look for more chairs with some of the others. Leah came over to me probably to try to steal
some food. I turned to her to tell her to wait but she looked like something else was on her
mind so I turned back figuring the food wasn’t in danger “Hello Leah, sorry, it will only be a little
wile longer now.” I told her if she wanted to tell me what was on her mind she would.

“I’m leaving.” She stated simply I spun around to see that she wasn’t just messing with me. “I’ve
already told the others. I just thought you might want to know.” She continued. As I grew up
Leah was always a part of my life maybe not a large part but always there. And as I grew older
her and I bonded and actually became friends. None of the other wolves understood how that
was possible; they still remembered her as she was in Sam’s pack. I had never known that Leah
the one I knew was my only friend who wasn’t family and now she was leaving.

“Why?” I asked I couldn’t help the pained expression on my face I was going to loose my best
friend. “Why now? I thought you were happy.” I spoke but it sounded more like pleading.

“Why not now?” she asked me. Did she really not know that she was my best friend?

Don’t go, I’ll miss you too much. I thought to her I wanted her to understand how much I would
miss her.
“Geez, I’ll still visit I’m just going to take some college classes.” She told me a joking look in her
eyes I imeadeatly felt better; I thought I was the problem. “I’m not even moving out.” She
continued.

I thought there was more but she walked away I tried to calm myself down It was just a joke,
just a joke, funny joke. I thought sarcastically. Emily and I finished cooking and served the food
there was enough for probably five thanksgiving meals. The wolves dug in even I had quite a
plateful. As I stood to put my plate in the sink thinking about how many dishes I would have to
clean up the phone rang. I hurried to get it and answered on the second ring. “Hello,” I
answered.

“Hi Nessie, Charlie is going to want to come over to your house is there any room?” Alice asked.

“Ummm I think so; he would have to hurry if he wants to get any food.” I told her. Charlie knew
where my house was it was hidden but I had asked for a road to lead to it so he could come
over.

“Okay, I’ll tell him that.” She replied. “Bye Nessie, see you later.”

“Bye,” I said but the line was dead. Jake came over to me I turned around and gave him a kiss
on he cheek as he did the same.

“Who was that?” he asked.

“Alice, Charlie is going to come over here.” I informed him. I looked to the table to make sure
there was enough food. There was…for now. I walked to the table and told my guests “Charlie
is going to be over soon, so make sure you save enough food for him.” I was honestly worried I
would have to cook more food. We all heard Charlie’s car drive up. Well too late now. I went to
get the door before he even got out of the car. “Grandpa!” I yelled to him truly excited to see
him.

“Hey Kiddo, how are you sweetie?” he asked me. He didn’t know I was pregnant, and this was
probably the last time I would see him until the baby was born.

“I’m great!” I told him “There’s food inside I’m hosing a little brunch.” He walked up the steps
with me and I led him inside.

“Whoa! This is ‘a little brunch’?” he asked. I just laughed, if only he’d seen it just minutes
before.

We ate and laughed and talked and one by one the wolves left. All that was left now was
Charlie, Jacob and I, Seth and Leah, and Quil but he was heading out the door. “Take some
food!” I yelled to him I didn’t like having too much leftovers. I liked to cook, it relaxed me, and it
made me happy. He took some leftovers and hurried out before I would make him carry more.

Charlie stretched and patted his stomach. “Hey Nessie, you want to head down to your family’s
house with me?” he asked. I sighed under my breath I would probably have to ride in his car. He
might freak out if I ran there.

“Sure, me and Jake will ride with you.” I answered him.

“Me and Seth are going to head out. Bye Nessie.” Leah told me. Seth looked like he was about
to pass out, I wondered if Leah would carry him home.

“Bye.” I waved to them. “Okay, come on grandpa. Let’s go before more people show up.” I said
to Charlie steering him towards the door. I turned off the lights, closed the door, and walked to
Charlie’s car. I looked at the house it looked more empty than it ever had maybe that was just
because I could almost still feel the wolves warm bodies pressed up to me. I smiled as I got in
the car and couldn’t keep it off my face the entire drive there.

Chapter 3

“Really Dad, you should go home a get sleep” my mom was trying to convince Charlie to
go home. Her golden eyes looked concerned as they too tried o convince him. I could still
remember the day she stopped wearing the contacts he wasn’t pleased but he knew he was
just lucky to still have us in his life he knew that we would’ve left if he couldn’t take it. He was
the only human who didn’t have anything to do with the wolves that knew we were still here.
As far as the other humans knew the Cullen’s left months after Bella got married. Carlisle
worked at a hospital in Port Angeles since we weren’t supposed to be here and since he still
wanted to be a doctor.

“Fine, bye Nessie.” He told me

“Bye grandpa!” I replied enthusiastically. He waved to the others, hugged Mom, and left. I
sighed.

“What’s wrong?” Esme asked worridly. I ignored her and turned to Alice who looked at me
confused.

“Fine Alice, I’ll let you do my wedding.” I told her her eyes lit up like a kid on christmas morning.

“Yay!!! Oh thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.” She sang. We all laughed. She ran to Esme and
whispered, “Come on Esme, we have a job to do!” Esme and Alice ran upstairs.

I hope you don’t mind it just seemed right. I thought to Jacob. I saw him smile and shake his
head. “Okay I’m going to go home now.” I informed everyone “Have fun.” They all smiled and
waved us off. We ran home hurrying to go to bed. Soon I was unconscious and dreaming.

In my dream we stood in the same field where we had waited for the Volturi so many years
ago. I stood with my family, the wolves, and other vampires that I remembered from the past.
Everyone held an expression of determination on their faces. It would have been funny had I
not been in such a state of fear as well. I did not fear for myself so much as I feared for the
precious child I held. Her hair was deep brown, her eyes the same as mine and she trembled in
fear. Suddenly I felt a wave of déjà-vu as the Volturi emerged.

I awoke panting and disoriented in the dark room. I could feel Jake’s warm body next to me,
and I could hear him snoring as he slept peacefully. The dream had been so real, I was still
shivering in fear. I looked again to Jake, he was completely out. I got up and rushed out the
back door running faster than usual, the quiet that I had once thought was peaceful now was
eerie and terrifying. I ran inside the big house to find Esme and Alice peering over plans. Alice
quickly folded them up and ran them upstairs while Esme came over to me.

“Is something wrong dear?” she asked me, concern coloring her tone.

“Not really, I just had a bad dream.” I explained before she could get too worried. “The house
just started to scare me that’s all.” I smiled sheepishly, though I felt like screaming instead. The
house wasn’t what really scared me, it was the emptiness and the fear for my child that had.
The others had started to gather in a loose circle around me.

“I’m sorry sweetie.” Mom interjected. She opened up her arms for a hug. I walked over and
hugged her.

Seemingly without reason I started to cry. I never was known to cry, yet here I was sobbing in
my mother’s arms like a baby. The truth was I was terrified because I knew how very possible it
was that the Volturi would come. I had inherited my mother’s bad luck as everyone said. If the
Volturi were to come to see if I had matured properly now or soon for that matter they would
surely try to find a problem with the child I carried. I could not let this happen. I knew it was
hopeless though, if they did decide to come I knew there was no hope in trying to flee they had
the best tracker in the world though we had Mom she could shield us and we could run. No we
couldn’t even if we were doomed we would inevitably end up staying to fight once again
unfortunately there were no slim chance saviors for us. No half-breed vampire had ever
conceived a child before especially not with a werewolf. I awoke to a rare beam of sunlight.
Apparently I had fallen asleep in my mother’s arms. I sighed and looked at her. She smiled
tentatively.

“Good morning, hun, are you alright?” she asked.

“Yes, sorry about last night.” I apologized. “I don’t know what happened there.”

“I do,” she smiled “you’re just going through a though time. It’s natural to feel trapped.”

If only she knew the truth. “Where’s Dad?” I asked I wondered why he hadn’t been answering
my thoughts like he always did. I looked around for him but couldn’t see him anywhere.

“He went hunting with Em and Jazz.” She explained.

“I thought you and Dad went hunting just the other night.” I accused.

“We changed our minds.” She answered simply. I guessed that I didn’t want to know.
Just then I saw them jump the river and was surprised to see Jake with them. I hurriedly shoved
the dream from my mind. I had picked up from the others how to keep thoughts out of your
head and I was quite good at it. When they came in, I had already gotten rid of the awful
dream. I hugged them all as they came in, and held on to Jake. I needed the support more than
I realized. My Dad’s head snapped up at something he heard in someone’s thoughts.

“Alice,” he called. A felt a sudden jolt of fear, what had Alice been thinking? When she came
downstairs the look on her face made my stomach quiver. It was distant, and vague, and
familiar. “Will you come talk with me outside?” he asked her a strange menace to his words.

What’s wrong? I silently asked of him, he just shook his head. They walked out of hearing
distance, and I could see him asking her something sternly towering over her. I hated to see him
yell it always made me sad. He looked back to the house with a look of shock, and came
running in to stare at me wide eyed. What’s wrong? What did I do? I was afraid to speak
because I was worried that I knew what this was about and didn’t like it one bit.

“You’re getting married?” he asked, I suddenly felt better. “When did you decide this?”

“Last night,” I sighed.”Why? Is that bad?” asked not worried at all even if he didn’t want me
getting married I was going to and there wasn’t a thing he could do about it. I glared at him.
And he started laughing startling us all.

“Fine.” He told me still chuckling. “I’m proud of you honey!” he went to pat Jacob on the back.
Maybe a little too hard.

Be nice to him! I silently warned him. He just started laughing harder. We all started laughing.
Then suddenly I felt a nudge from my abdomen and my hands flew to my stomach. Everyone
around me started talking at once.

“What happened?”

“Are you okay?”

“What’s going on?”

“Honey, is something wrong?”

All the voices of concern and confusion. It was impressive I could hear them at all. “I’m fine!” I
yelled a little too loudly “Geez give me a break! Come on Jake, let’s go home.” We ran in silence
and once home I spun around so fast the world was blurry. All I saw was Jacob’s face he was
smiling and I smiled and ran to him. He embraced me and I kissed him passionately, finally
having my moment even if it was late. I am happy. So happy. With Jake. And my baby. My
family. My life… is… perfect.

Chapter 4

I awoke the next morning to find Jake missing from bed. “Jake?” I called out “Jake?”
nothing. I got dressed and went downstairs to find a note on the fridge. It read:

Dear Nessie,

I went for an early morning run. Be home soon.

Jake.

I made breakfast for when he returned. I sat and waited. Finaly I looked at the clock. I
didn’t know when he left, but it was past nine. I hurried to the phone, starting to get worried
“Hey Dad,” I said.

“What’s wrong.” He interupted.

“Jake’s missing. He left a note saying he would be back soon but he still is’nt home. I’m worried
he’s hurt or something.” I told him panic seeping into my blood stream like acid.

“We’ll find him honey. Don’t worry.” He tried to ease my panic but, I was too worried I hardly
noticed.

“I’ll come with you.” I stated and hung up. I swiftly rushed out the front door. I ran in a paniced
frenzie, which quickly allowed me to reach the house. I ran in the front door panic evident on
my face. Mom and Esme tried to hug me but I was not in the mood. “I caught a trail near the
house. I think we should start there.” I told them. Em, Jazz, Dad, and Carlisle all nodded. We ran
with me in the lead. Once we reached the house we followed after several different trails. I
folowed the most recent trail
