COLOR vs. BLACK & WHITE


Use COLOR in your Photo if

a. The subject has interesting or great colors


Use COLOR in your Photo if

b. The colors contribute to the content or form of the


photo
Use Black & White in your Photo if
1. If the colors of the photo are boring
2. To increase “drama” or emotional impact.
3. If the photos contain contrasts, textures, patterns and tones
4. If the photo uses light as its main focus
5. For classic mood
6. For darker mood
7. For simplicity
HOMEWORK

1. A colored picture which focuses on GREAT COLORS

2. Two black and white pictures which feature any of the


requirement of a black and white photo.

Don’t forget:
a. The pictures must be taken from Dec. 14 - Jan. 4.
b. Email to me the URL of the photo, NOT the photo
itself.
c. I’m changing the time of the deadline to 7PM. Please
do not wait until the last minute to email me.

d. IMPORTANT: Bring your camera (with manual settings) on


January 4. We’ll be studying parts of the camera.

Find 2 COLORED photos in the INTERNET which will look
better as a BLACK & WHITE photo.

1. Download the pictures. Don’t forget to copy the URL of the


photo.
2. Open the photo using the PREVIEW app of iMac. (Or just
double-click the photo.)

3. On Preview, click on TOOLS, then select ADJUST COLOR.
To make the photo Black and White, slide the SATURATION
pointer all the way to the left.You may also edit the photos’
other settings to make it look better.

4. E-mail the two photos to jnicolay@my.xs.edu.ph


together with the URL of the original colored versions of the
photos.
