Agenda: LESSON TITLE: Unit 5, Section 5.7: Standard Form of Linear

Equations
1. Inform students

2. Go over test on OBJECTIVE: Given a word problem, students will be able to
standard form write an equation in standard form to represent the situation
3. Retake standard mathematically. Students will also know how to calculate x and
from worksheet y intercepts given a linear equation in standard form.
STANDARDS BEING ADDRESSED:
 A1.1 A Select and justify functions and equations to model and
solve problems.
 A1.1 B Solve problems that can be represented by linear
functions, equations, and inequalities.
 A1.2 B Recognize the multiple uses of variables, determine all
possible values of variables that satisfy prescribed conditions, and evaluate
algebraic expressions that involve variables.
 A1.3.B Represent a function with a symbolic expression, as a
graph, in a table, and using words, and make connections among these
representations.
 A1.4.B Write and graph an equation for a line given the slope and the y-intercept,
the slope and a point on the line, or two points on the line, and translate between
forms of linear equations.
 A1.4.C Identify and interpret the slope and intercepts of a linear function,
including equations for parallel and perpendicular lines.
ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING: Students will complete a standard form retake sheet..
MATERIALS: pencil, notes, warm up-Algebra: Solving for y, HW-Word Problems

EXPECTATIONS OF THE STUDENT:

Before class:

INSTRUCTION:
 (5 minutes) Inform students about grading of tests, posters, and retakes
o Students had most difficulty with line of best fit and standard form.
o Poster worth 5 points, questions on handout worth 5 points and the
worksheet is worth 13 points.
o Hand out will be due on Thursday or Friday.
 (10 minutes) go over standard form portion of the test
 (35 minutes) students have this opportunity to retake the standard form portion of
the test
o During this time, record poster scores
o Have students attach retake with test to turn in.
o If students finish early, have them work on the poster handout.
