Examination timetable
Winter (January 2011)
General Certificate of Education
Free-Standing Mathematics Qualifications

Timetable notes:
1. Starting times of exams. Each exam must be taken on the day and at the time shown on the timetable. The
published starting time of all exams is either 9.00am or 1.30pm. Candidates taking more than one exam in a
session should take these consecutively. A supervised break may be given between the exams taken
consecutively at the discretion of the centre.
2. Centres may start an exam up to 30 minutes before the published starting time without notifying AQA.
3. Centres may delay the starting time of an exam within the scheduled session without notifying us but candidates
must be supervised from 9.30am for morning exams or 2.00pm for afternoon exams.
4. For information on any other timetable variations, please refer to the JCQ Instructions for conducting
examinations or contact AQA Exams Office Support.
5. Candidates must remain under supervision until 10.00am for morning exams and 2.30pm for afternoon exams.
For exams of less than one hour’s duration, candidates must remain under supervision for a period equal to the
duration of the exam after the published starting time shown on the timetable.
6. GCE and FSMQ exams are timetabled in common timetabled slots agreed by the JCQ Awarding Bodies.
7. Early information. Some components require the issue of question papers, stimulus material or other
information in advance of the normal timetable period. Centres should check the specification for information on
the material required by candidates.
8. Any reading time specified for an exam is included in the time specified.
9. GCE coursework. Marks must be submitted by 10 January 2011. For GCE Mathematics and GCE Statistics
where coursework forms part of a unit, candidates may carry forward the coursework component mark from a
previous series. Please ensure these candidates are entered on the mark form for carrying forward CF, as this
cannot be done automatically.
10. Practical and oral units. Centres must arrange these units according to agreed procedures. These units are not
shown on the timetable except when the unit is scheduled to be taken during the exam timetable period
11. Units which contribute towards an award in a Mathematics qualification may not be used again for an award in a
Further Mathematics qualification.
12. Modern Foreign Languages-Unit 2. Teacher-conducted orals in these subjects should be conducted between 4
January 2011 and 22 January 2011.
13. Free-Standing Mathematics Qualifications. Coursework Portfolio marks must be submitted to us and to the
moderator by 10 January 2011. Candidates re-taking a unit may carry forward the coursework component mark
from a previous series. Please ensure these candidates are entered on the mark form for carrying forward CF, as
this cannot be done automatically.
14. Free-Standing Mathematics Qualifications. Data sheets must be issued to candidates between
12 January 2011 and 19 January 2011.
15. Free-Standing Mathematics Qualifications. Data sheets must be issued to candidates between
14 January 2011 and 21 January 2011.

16. GCE Mathematics Unit Pure Core 1: Calculators are not permitted in this exam.
17. GCE General Studies, Specification A, Unit GENA4. Case Study source material for GENA4 may be issued to
candidates on or after 1 November 2010.
18. GCE Leisure Studies and GCE Travel and Tourism, externally-assessed assignments. Units LS02 and
TT09 must be conducted between 10 January 2011 and 21 January 2011. Preparatory folders must be collected
by 7 January 2011.
19. GCE Applied ICT. AQA set assignments must be conducted between 1 November 2010 and 21 January 2011.
Candidate’s work must be posted to the examiner on or before 21 January 2011.
20. GCE Applied Art and Design. The externally set briefs (Units 3, 5 and 9) will be despatched to centres in
September 2011 on the basis of estimated entries. The externally set briefs (Units 3, 5 and 9) must be completed
by 10 January 2011. Candidates marks for the externally set briefs (Units 3, 5 and 9) must be submitted to us by
10 January 2011.
21. Results for the January 2011 exams will be available as follows:
