In recent weeks, example after example has demonstrated the major contrast between
the Republican camp and the Democrat one. Republicans ACT and Democrats REACT.

1. President Bush and the Republican-led Congress are trying to seat some outstanding
judges who actually KNOW and CARE what the U.S. Constitution says, yet Democ-

NEW APPROACH... The Republicans should back off and let men marry men; women marry women, and totally legalize
abortion. That way, in three generations, there won't be any Democrats left.....problem solved.
DID YOU KNOW ANY OF THIS ABOUT IRAQ? ... that 47 countries have re-established their embassies in Iraq? that the Iraqi
government employs 1.2 million Iraqi people? that 3100 schools have been renovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation,
263 schools are now under construction and 38 new schools have been built in Iraq? that Iraq's higher educational structure
consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers? that 25 Iraqi students departed for the United
States in January 2004 for the re-established Fulbright program? Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational? They have
5 - 100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels and a naval infantry regiment? or that Iraqi's Air Force consists of three operation
squadrons, 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft which operate day and night, and they will soon add 16 UH-1
helicopters and 4 Bell jet rangers? Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion? that the
Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained and equipped police officers? that there are 5 Police Academies in Iraq that
produce over 3,500 new officers each 8 weeks? Did you know there are more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq,
including 264 schools, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical
facilities? Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 have received the first 2 series of polio vaccinations?
that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid-October of 2004? Did you know there are 1,192,000 cell
phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%? that Iraq has an independent media that consist of 75 radio
stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations? that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004? that 2
candidates in the Iraqi presidential election held a televised debate? WHY DON'T WE KNOW? BECAUSE OUR
MEDIA WON'T TELL US! Instead of shouting these remarkable accomplishments from the housetops, the leftmedia report
only negative, anti-American stories designed to undermine our President, our military, our achievements in Iraq and,
ultimately, our support for the war on terror. Don't be misled by the dominant anti-Bush media. For fairer coverage, check

Next event for Northern Division is Advocacy Workshop in Sacramento Mon. – Tue. APRIL 25-26. Do you know of
several teen students that our club should sponsor for this great event? Besides lobbying our legislators, we hear from
exciting elected Republicans. Mark your calendars now for this special opportunity: April 25-26, 2005.
I have talked with Lynda Hays, President of the Del Norte club and we are proceeding with plans for a Mini Confer-
ence for Region 13 sometime this Summer. At the Napa Conference the Director for Region 12, Maribelle Anderson ex-
pressed an interest in having the two clubs from her region join us! Everyone agrees to have it in Eureka. We are looking
at a Saturday in JULY. Your input on the topics or speakers is still appreciated.

has been particularly visible on the Social Security reform issues.
Beyond that sad case are the elected Republicans who have adopted
the position of no support because, "The President doesn't have to run
re-election, but I do." I'm as conservative as the next fellow and sup-

CENTRAL COMMITTEE REPORT - Lori Ann Metheny, Chairman (Humboldt County Republican Party)
Worried about the "state" of our State? Governor Schwarzenegger has introduced some extraordinary proposals here in California.
He is challenging the status quo in California and asking the legislature to implement a number of significant reforms, including redis-
tricting, spending controls, merit pay for teachers, and fixing the state's out of control public pension system. In California, voters are
concerned about the budget and how to fix the cycle of deficits that have plagued the state because of out-of-control spending and
archaic formulas that keep us from ever getting ahead. Yet Democrats are stuck in a pattern of old ideas without a plan for the future.
Democrats are promoting euthanasia with legislation to legalize doctor-assisted suicide. They continue to promote legalizing same-
sex marriage and have enlisted the help of Hollywood celebrities in their crusade to legalize drivers' licenses for illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, they propose increasing spending on social programs and have no way to solve the budget deficit without raising ta xes.
Let Democrats know that you believe in the "big ideas" laid out by the leaders of the Republican Party. Now more than ever, you
should be proud to be part of the Republican Party and the ideas that will move our nation and our state forward.

LEGISLATION ALERT VEE SORENSON

BILLS TO SUPPORT: Senate Bill (SB) 9 and Assembly Bill (AB) 14 have been introduced and would combine the
Franchise Tax Board (FTB), the Employment Development Dept. (EDD), with the Board of Equalization (BoE). Formed
from this legislation would be a combined and new comprehensive State Tax Commission. This is a good start at elimi-
nating agencies and streamlining our bloated state bureaucracy.
Both AB 1615 and SB 216 would also consolidate the FTB, the EDD and the Department of Insurance into the BoE.
Although SB 9, AB 14 address the same issue of consolidation, both should be supported.
We should also support SB 633. If you are accused of a crime in court, the burden of proof of guilt is with the govern-
ment. If, as a taxpayer, you are accused of wrongdoing, the burden of proof is on you to prove innocence. In 1998, the
Federal Government passed reform legislation shifting the burden of proof to the IRS for factual issues dealing with co-
operating taxpayers. This measure would bring the same changes to California.
If you are thinking of appealing an income tax issue before the BoE, the FTB will allow the public to see your entire
return. SB234 would limit, for the public viewing, only those issues in question.
SUGGESTED ACTION: Express your support for the above bills to State Senator Chesbro and Assemblywoman Berg.
