ROGER RODONI—STATE OF THE COUNTY ADDRESS

This month‟s speaker is the Honorable Roger Rodoni, Humboldt County Supervisor, Second District. Supervisor
Rodoni is not afraid to stand up for what he believes and approaches decisions regarding our county in a common
sense-no nonsense manner; he represents our voice on the Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Rodoni will be
giving a „State of the County‟ address and will speak to us about what he feels are the top issues facing Humboldt
County today. Here is your chance to have an insider‟s view of the inner workings of our Board of
Supervisors. This is a program you do not want to miss! Bring your questions and bring a friend!!

WHEN WOMEN WORK, WE WIN !!! Now is the time to regroup and rebuild. We had a really great meeting in January with our
outstanding speaker, Holly Swanson. Our meeting in February should be exciting too! Remember: February is Bake Sale
Time! Please bring one of your favorite selections and I assure you there will be many people anxious to purchase and sample
something from your kitchen.

Looking ahead to March . . . we will NOT be having our regular 3rd-Thursday luncheon meeting . . . BUT I do hope you
will JOIN ME at the CFRW Northern Division Spring Conference right here in Eureka, Friday March 16th and Saturday morning

You may wish to attend the Friday luncheon: (Redding-area) Republican Assemblyman, DOUG LA MALFA will be
the guest speaker. Or plan to join me for the Friday night banquet where Reagan advisor and author, PETER HANNAFORD
will speak. Also, Friday afternoon Damien Schiff from the Pacific Legal Foundation will address the group. Saturday morning
get an insider‟s view of the internal workings of a rural GOP Central Committee and learn the rest-of-the-story about the North-
ern Spotted Owl. You‟ll find a complete conference schedule and registration form in this bulletin. Hurry, the deadline is Thurs-
day, March 1. I still need some helpers . . . if you can help on Friday or Saturday (with Registration or Paging) PLEASE let me
know!

I am so excited that Phil & Sally Arnot have been chosen for the Republicans of the Year! That‟s Tuesday, February

Craig, is the Volunteer of the Year and Dr. Jacqueline Kasun enters the Hall of Fame.

February sure is busy. See you at our meeting (and Bake Sale) on Thursday, the 15th at the Red Lion.

It's BAKE SALE TIME! Please Bake, Bring and Buy for our February luncheon meeting Thursday, February
15. This is always such a fun meeting with chances for us members to take home wonderful baked
treasurers from some of Humboldt's finest ladies. And we're helping to build our Club Treasury at the same
time! We have a very beautiful large cotton blanket/throw that was given last month at our White Elephant
Sale that we are holding over for February's meeting to offer in our opportunity drawing. In January, between
the sale of tickets on a $40 gift certificate to Roy's and the items sold in our White Elephant Sale we brought
in $186. That is great. I do want to thank Joy Finley for stepping in last month when I was running late. I
promise in February I will be there early. I look forward to seeing you at the Bake Sale table and while I am
milling around selling tickets on that beautiful blanket/throw.

Chaplain's Message by Rita O'Connell

In his proclamation establishing a National Day of Thanksgiving, President Abraham Lincoln wrote: "It has
seemed to me fit and proper that God should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged, as with
one heart and one voice, by the whole American people."
How tragic that our "one heart and one voice" have been silenced in a misguided effort to be politically
correct!
Rita's Summary
Without a vibrant and vital Christianity, America is doomed, and without America, the West is doomed.
This warning didn't come from Billy Graham but from Rabbi Daniel Lapin, founder of Toward Tradition, a
national alliance of Jews and Christians. In a two-part series in The Eureka Reporter, Rabbi Lapin warned of a
"propaganda blitzkrieg" unleashed against conservative Christians.
He compared current apathy to this dangerous trend to the tragic results of Britain's failure to heed Winston
Churchill's warnings during the 1980s that Islamic leaders were intent on world domination. Americans, like
the British, refused to see the danger, and have paid a high price.
Mainstream publishers are flooding bookstores with anti-Christian volumes that far outnumber books

LEGISLATIVE REPORT by VEE SORENSON

For those of us who care about family values in California, it is of interest to look at our liberal representatives in
Sacramento and see what they are attempting to do. Numerous bills have already been introduced this year that
threaten religious freedom, traditional marriage and parental rights.
On the first day of the 2007 legislation session, Assemblyman Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), again defied the consti-
tution and will of the people by reintroducing this homosexual bill, SB 43. He deceptively flaunts this action by naming
the bill, “The Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Bill”. Leno and his colleagues are determined to fight tire-
lessly to change the description of marriage in our State.
A physician-assisted suicide bill is also in the wings ready to be reintroduced.
Another appalling bill which will be introduced soon would make spanking your child under age 3 a punishable crime.
Judeo-Christian values are being seriously challenged and we need to remain vigilant in our fight. Contact our local
State Representatives and the Governor to voice your opposition to such sweeping, harmful legislation.

warning against the perils of fervent Islam. Rabbi Lapin asks if anyone can seriously think America is more jeopardized
by Christian conservatives than by Islamic zealots.
"I fear that many Americans believe just that in the same way that many pre-World War II Westerners considered
Churchill a bigger threat than Hitler," Lapin wrote.
University professors and numerous entertainers are among the most vocal and influential critics of Christianity.
Rosie O'Donnell joined the chorus with her declaration that "Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam."
Oxford University professor Richard Dawkins is described by Lapin as "one of the generals in the anti-Christian army
of the secular left. American academia treats him with reverence and hangs on his every world." Dawkins insists that
"religious myths ought not to be tolerated."
The rabbi warns that the war is against those who regard the Bible to be God's revelation to humanity and the Ten
Commandments to be His set of rules for all time. Phase one of this war is to make Christianity "socially unacceptable . .
. something only foolish, poor and ugly people could turn to."
He concludes that, as an Orthodox Jewish rabbi, devoted to Jewish survival, the Torah, and Israel, he is "terrified of
American Christianity caving in. Many of us are ready to stand with you, but you must replace your timidity with nerve
and your diffidence with daring and determination. You are under attack. Now is the time for you to resist it."

Focus on the Assembly
I am currently analyzing Assembly Bill 16. This bill has been introduced by democrat Sally Leiber. This is the same
woman who has introduced the no-spanking bill. AB 16 would require all girls entering sixth grade to have a vaccine that
will prevent them from contracting some of the strains of the human papillomavirus, HPV. Some of the strains that the
vaccine covers can cause cervical cancer.

Below is a short description of AB 16.

Existing law prohibits the governing authority of a school or other institution from unconditionally admitting any person
as a pupil of any private or public elementary or secondary school, child care center, day nursery, nursery school, family
day care home, or development center, unless prior to his or her first admission to that institution he or she has been
fully immunized against various diseases. This bill would, in addition, on and after July 1, 2008, prohibit the governing
authority from unconditionally admitting any female pupil to the 6th grade level of any of those institutions unless the
pupil has received the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. This bill contains other related provisions and other existing
laws.

CFRW Winter Conference by Patricia Welch

The California Federation of Republican Women held their Winter Conference in San Diego , January 26-28; the
theme was California Education: Myth and Truth. There were over 200 women in attendance and it was great to see old
friends and make some new friends. As usual, we had a jam-packed agenda. We heard from some great speakers,
had a workshop on membership promotion and had a great Panel on Education on Saturday afternoon.
Our luncheon speaker was Karna Bodman, a former staffer in the Reagan White House. She has written spy novel
called Checkmate. She told us what life was really like in the West Wing and shared some charming stories of President
Reagan. The evening speaker was local radio personality Roger Hedgecock, who as usually was insightful and
entertaining. He spoke about politics on the state and national level with humor.
We were fortunate to have National Federation of Republican Women 1st Vice President, Shirley Sadler with us for
the entire weekend. She hails from the State of Ohio. She brought us news and views from the national level on Sun-
day and encouraged all of us to attend the NFRW Convention in Palm Springs in September. We also heard from the
Federation‟s own Dr. Barbara Stone, Cal State Fullerton Political Science Professor Emeritus, Retired.
This conference was also the endorsing session for officers of the California Republican Party (CRP), specifically, the
CFRW Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and Club Presidents endorsed the candidates for Chairman and
Vice-Chairman of the Party. Ron Nehring was overwhelmingly endorsed for Chairman of the California Republican Party
as was Tom Del Beccaro for Vice-Chairman. The CRP election will be held at the Convention on February 11, in
Sacramento .
I can‟t encourage you enough to attend these CFRW Conferences. They are a wonderful way to make friends and
LEARN! Please plan to attend the CFRW Northern Division Conference in March; it will be held right here in
Eureka. Also, please plan to attend the CFRW Advocacy Workshop in Sacramento in March as well. Please see
