Dust and pollen filter: renewing
Note
The dust and pollen filter consists of 2 identical filter elements.
When installing, ensure correct installation position (flow
direction of filter is marked by arrows.)
If necessary, clean the plenum chamber after renewing the
dust and pollen filter; pay particular attention to the area
beneath the air intake unit.
Before installing a new filter clean opening in air conditioner in
which dust and pollen filter will be inserted.
There are two different versions of the dust and pollen filter
(air resistance varies). Make sure that you install the correct
filter version. The characteristic curve for activating the fresh
air blower -V2- in the operating and display unit, the
Climatronic control unit -J255-, has been set accordingly.
– The filter element without activated charcoal filter insert is
installed on vehicles with a “standard version” operating and
display unit (Climatronic control unit -J255-); → ETKA. These
vehicles are not equipped with an air quality sensor -G238-.
– The filter element with activated charcoal filter insert is
installed on vehicles with the “plus” operating and display unit
(Climatronic control unit -J255-); → ETKA. These vehicles are
equipped with an air quality sensor -G238-.
Removing
Note
Depending on vehicle equipment (e.g. special equipment for
taxis or police vehicles) it may be necessary to remove the
glove box (and possibly certain control units which are
installed in this part of the vehicle).
On RHD vehicles the dust and pollen filter must be taken out
of the air conditioner towards the left side (not towards the
right as on LHD vehicles). The remaining procedure is
essentially the same as for LHD vehicles.
– Remove cover -A- from bottom cover of
glove box -B-.
Note
Cover -A- is secured to bottom cover of glove
box -B- with 4 retainers. It may be difficult to
release these retainers, so please ensure that
bottom cover of glove box -B- is not damaged
during removal.
– Cover floor covering (in front passenger's
footwell) beneath opening in air conditioner
for fitting dust and pollen filter with paper.
– Release retainer -B- and remove cover -A-
