How to Avoid Hell

In my article, "Saved from Hell?" we discovered that salvation has

nothing to do with either heaven or hell, or what happens after death.
So if being saved and avoiding hell are two completely different
things, what does the Bible say about hell? Are we told how to avoid
hell? Yes, there are several passages which address this question and
here we will take a look at them. In this article, I will focus on the hell
passages which appear to give some clue as to how to avoid hell. I will
also take the passages as literally as possible.

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a
cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to
his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever
shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. (Matt. 5:22)

I pity the fool who calls anyone "fool" because he might be in danger
of hell fire. If you want to insult someone, you'd better say Raca
(which means empty-headed, or air-head), rather than saying fool,
which would escalate your penalty from being judged by the council to
being cast into hell.

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for
it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and
not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand
offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee
that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body
should be cast into hell. (Matt. 5:29-30)

here to avoid hell. I hate to think of what other parts you might have
to cut off.

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the

damnation of hell? (Matt. 23:33)

Well look at this - Jesus is asking the exact same question I am!
Unfortunately, he doesn't give the answer. Sorry.
If we take the above passages literally, we now know the exact
location of hell - eight miles south-west of Jerusalem (Gehenna). If you
get cast there, be sure to bring a picnic lunch and spend a couple
hours enjoying the scenery (there's no more fire there, just trees,
grass, houses, etc.)

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye
cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye
gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and
ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. And
these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous
into life eternal. (Matt. 25:41-43, 46)

This is from the parable of the sheep and the goats (please read
Matthew 25:31-46) The only difference between the sheep and goats
is what they did and did not do. If you want to avoid hell, you must
feed the hungry, water the thirsty, take in the stranger, clothe the
naked, and visit the imprisoned.

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham
afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (Lk. 16:23)

This comes from the story of the rich man and Lazarus (please read
Luke 16:19-31). If we take it literally, then everyone goes to hell
(hades) upon death. Abraham and Lazarus were also in hell with the
rich man, seperated only by a deep chasm. Thus, avoiding hell is not
possible. But let's accept the traditional interpretation. The
traditionalists have invented a scheme by which Lazarus will be
ushered into heaven at the time of the judgment (or sooner) and the
rich man will be transfered to the lake of fire to burn for all eternity.
Since the rich man is accused of no sin whatsoever, and Lazarus was
not commended for even a single act of righteousness or faith, the
only real difference between them was that one was poor and the
other was rich. So if you're rich, get rid of all your worldly possessions,
live on the streets and become a beggar, and infect yourself with
sores. Also get yourself some dogs to lick your sores, and you too will
get to sit on Abraham's chest and listen to the screams of the damned
as they beg for water.

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire. (Rev. 20:15)

Make sure your name is written in the mysterious "book of life" Since
this book is not mentioned in any other book in the New Testament,
we don't know exactly what it is or how it is that you get your name
written in it (the book of life in the Old Testament is something like a
roster of citizenship).

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers,
and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall
have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death. (Rev. 21:8)

Don't be fearful, unbelieving, or abominable. Don't murder, don't be a

whoremonger, sorcerer, or idolater. And especially, don't be a liar.
Good luck.
To summarize, here are things you must do or not do in order to avoid
hell.

1) Don't call anyone "fool".

2) Cut off body parts which cause you to sin.
3) Feed the hungry, look after the stranger, visit the prisoner, clothe
the naked, etc.
4) Become a poor, miserable, sick beggar and get some dogs to lick
you.
5) Get your name written in the "book of life", whatever that is.
6) Don't be fearful, unbelieving, abominable. Don't murder, don't be a
whoremonger, sorcerer, idolater, or liar.

That's everything the Bible has to say about avoiding hell. Not even
one of the hell passages mentions having faith in Jesus, salvation,
grace, making a decision for Christ, or any such thing.

Now, are you ready to accept the fact that the traditional teaching on
hell is just dead wrong? Are you ready to recognize that something
just doesn't add up? If so, keep searching. Jesus said "Seek, and you
will find" If you diligently seek the truth, you will find it. Just don't be
surprised when what you find is not what you expected.
