Gadi tribe:

The Gadi are Muslim Rajput tribe found in Punjaband Sindh. Pakistan.and Utter Perdesh, India
The Gadis of Delhi, Karnal and Utter Perdesh area tribe found apparently in the upper zone of
the Jumna and Ganges. They are a sub-division of Rajputs and are landlords particularly in
Karnal, where they are most numerous and have settled down as cultivators and own several
villages.

History:
The Gadi is one of the rajput clans tribes found mainly in Punjab, Pakistan. . There are also a
few in Indian Punjab, and other parts of India. They are believed to have accepted Islam during
reign of Sultan Mahmood Ghazanwi.They are approximately 50,000 in population. Gadis have
their own traditions regarding hospitality and hostility, Respect and honor is never compromised
among this tribe and bravery is their particular trait.They are mainly farmers and cultivaters.
Chaudhry and Rana are used as Title name but sometime professioal names such as Zaildar
and Numberdar are used as title.

Distribution:
Brfore partition: They are mostly settled in Dehli, Karnal and Utter Sarsawa(Utter Perdesh)
and Panipat, India.
After partition:After partition the Gadis of Karnal and Panipat migrated to Pakistan and settled
in many districts of Punjab and in some districts of sindh.In Punjab they are settled in
Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Muzaffargarh, Lahore and Nankana Sahib but they
are centralized in Sheikhupura and Gujranwala where they are active in local politics.Rana
Khalil Ahmed Gadi is General Secratory of Pakistan Muslim League(N) i.e.PML-N of District
Sheikhupura.

Family Traditions:

The family is of joint type, with father, mother, unmarried daughters and married and unmarried
sons and their children living in the same house.The head of the family is the eldest male
member and commands great respect. His decision on all family matters is final, but it is usually
arrived at after taking all factors into account. Conflict and confrontation rarely comes up.
Avoidance is observed between a woman and her husband’s elder male relatives after marriage
but these days, due to pseudomodinism, these tradition are gradually dying out.

Professions:
The majority is associated with the profession of agriculture but a some of them are also in
politics and civil services, such as police, wapda, education and judiciary, as well as a few are
running their own business.
