Labor Market :
Employment increased by 1,914 jobs in Philadelphia County during August and September. However, the number
of job seekers also increased. The combined effect of these two trends was an increase in the average monthly
unemployment rate from 11.6% for the second quarter to 12% in the first two months of the third quarter. Solid job
growth will help confidence, while record low mortgage rates boost affordability.
