Ashank Desai
Ashank Desai, Founder and Ex-Chairman is the chief architect of
catapulting Mastek into the Top 20 software companies in India.
Mr. Desai, M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai (ranked 3rd
among Technology and Science Institutes by Asiaweek in its Special Report on Asia's
Best Universities 2000) and MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM),
Ahmedabad (IIM-A ranks among the Top 5 management institutes in India) was awarded
the Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT, Mumbai for his contribution as a software
entrepreneur.

Sushanto Mitra
"Sushanto Mitra, Chief Executive Officer of Society for Innovation &
Entrepreneurship, IIT Bombay, is a management graduate with over 20
years experience in technology and finance. Prior to his current position
Sushanto was with Techcap India, a human resources and financial
consulting services firm which he founded in 1999. His earlier roles
included stints at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and HCL Infosystems.
Mr Purohit has over 15 years of experience managing design and development activities
in industrial automation, monitoring and control systems, telecom and networking
products.
Gopal, a member of the TVS family, is the Founder and Director of TVS Electronics
Limited, Director of Sundaram-Clayton Ltd. and several other TVS Group businesses.
TVS Electronics, founded in 1986, started as an IT peripherals manufacturer and has
today transformed itself into an IT Transaction Solution provider and Business Process
Outsourcing partner.
Gopal is the outgoing Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tamil
Nadu State Council. He is now chairing the "India@75" Mission (www.indiaat75.in) as
well as the "Entrepreneurship Initiative" for CII at the national level. He is also the
Chairman for the India-Taiwan task force at the CII National Council. He has also served
as the President of the Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT)
for the fiscal year '95-96.
Gopal has incubated over eight businesses, and has over twenty five years of operational
experience in India, along with a wide network of relationships across the world. Gopal
till recently was on the Board of ICICI Ventures Ltd. and is currently a Board member of
Milestone Capital, Great Lakes Institute of Management and Institute for Financial
Management & Research (IFMR).
Gopal earned a B.Com. from Loyola College, Chennai and an MBA from University of
Michigan, USA. A passionate entrepreneur, he is also actively involved in the promotion
of Entrepreneurship as an angel investor as well as through organizations including TiE
(The Indus Entrepreneurs), Great Lakes Institute of Management, IFMR.

Prof. Martin Haemmig
Dr. Martin Haemmig specializes as an international researcher, lecturer
and advisor on "The Globalization of Venture Capital" focusing on the
industry trends, best VC practice, and benchmarks sector developments
across geographies with investments, valuations, exits and performance
data covering 13 countries in Asia, Europe, and the United States. While
traveling throughout the world, he undertakes research and teaches in
conjunction with leading schools around the world. They are in U. S. (Stanford
University, University of California Berkeley & Davis), Europe (INSEAD, ETH Zurich,
UniBW Munich, Leiden Univ.), China (Tsinghua, Peking, Renmin, Fudan, SH-Jiaotong)
and in India (IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IISc & IIM Bangalore, ISB Hyderabad).
The objective here is to identify major gaps in this area for India, and see how
solutions can be found in general and in particular by IIT's/ IITians. The two primary
issues fall into building entrepreneurship/ self employment at the grass roots level;
second, in building indian global leaders from an early/growth stage state. This would be
followed by the final session on how IITs/ IITians can find solutions.
