After a few days of
slightly warmer weather,
winter returned in force on
Feb. 21. Heavy amounts
of ice knocked down tree
branches all over town
and many residents found
themselves without power
as ice and falling branches
affected power lines.

Central Catholic High
School senior Jason Mossing
has received an appointment
to the United States Air Force
Academy as a member of the
Class of 2015. He will join a
select group of our nation’s
finest young people as he takes
this challenging and rewarding
step toward becoming a
professional Air Force officer.
This appointment is awarded
to only about 1,500 of the Air
Force’s 10,000 applicants and
is equivalent to a scholarship
valued at $414,000. He will be
welcomed to the Cadet Wing
on June 23.
Jason is enrolled in the
Central Catholic International
Baccalaureate program and
is a member of the National
Honor Society, wrestling
team and Chinese Club. He is
also a Regents Scholar and a
member of Sylvania St. Joseph
Parish. Jason is interested in
studying electrical engineering
or computer science. He is the
son of John and Kim Mossing

season with an Ash Wednesday
service on March 9, at 7 p.m. The

The Ash Wednesday service
will be a traditional service with
the imposition of ashes and a
sermon titled “Tempted for Good.”
Childcare will be available. Coffee
and snacks will be served in the
hospitality corner before and after

Everyone is encouraged to
bring items for the Friendly Center
food pantry because their supplies
are at emergency levels. Items
that are needed include powdered
milk, boxed cereal, pancake mix,
noodles, rice, beans, boxed dried
potatoes, spaghetti sauce, peanut
butter, crackers, cookies and canned
fruits, vegetables, soups, meats and
prepared meals such as ravioli. A
collection box is in the sanctuary.
The church will also hold adult
study groups based on Michael
Slaughter’s book “Change the
World -- Recovering the Message
and Mission of Jesus” during the
Lent season. Groups will meet at
9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sundays

Dayton dean’s list honors list
DAYTON - The University of Dayton
has named more than 2,300 students to
the dean’s list for the fall semester of the
2010-2011 academic year. To be named to
the dean’s list at University of Dayton, a
student must achieve a superior academic
record, which is a grade point average of
3.5 or higher.
Two students from Sylvania qualified
for the distinction. Brittany Fritsch,
studying pre-law, and Monica Guisfredi,
studying chemical engineering, were both
placed on the dean’s list.
TOLEDO- Mercy College of Northwest Ohio recently
announced the fall semester dean’s list, honor’s list and
president’s list. To be named to the dean’s list, a student
must achieve a grade point average of 3.3 or higher and be
enrolled for 12 or more credit hours. To be named to the
honor’s list, a student must achieve a grade point average
