bottles in two varieties - bubbly & still in 1965 by Bisleri Ltd., a company of Italian origin. This
company was started by Signor Felice Bisleri who first brought the idea of selling bottled water
in India.

Parle bought over Bisleri (India) Ltd. In 1969 & started bottling Mineral water in glass bottles
under the brand name 'Bisleri'. Later Parle switched over to PVC non-returnable bottles & finally
advanced to PET containers.

Since 1995 Mr. Ramesh J. Chauhan has started expanding Bisleri operations substantially and
the turnover has multiplied more than 20 times over a period of 10 years and the average growth
rate has been around 40% over this period. Presently they have 8 plants and 11 franchisees all
over India. They have their presence covering the entire span of India. In their future ventures
they look to put up four more plants in 06-07. They command a 60% market share of the
organized market. Overwhelming popularity of 'Bisleri' & the fact that they pioneered bottled
water in India, has made us synonymous to Mineral water & a household name. When you think
of bottled water, you think Bisleri.

8. Vedica Natural Mountain Water:-

Vedica Natural Mountain Water comes to you in all its untouched purity, right from its

Besides, being naturally fortified with silica, the spring is naturally free form any
Microbial infection or pollution. Vedica Natural Mountain Water is also low on sodium,
making it the perfect choice for the health conscious. It has a high proportion of
sulphates, which work as natural detoxifying agents. And it’s clear, sweet taste proves

The subject plant layout refers to the arrangement of machinery, equipment

and other industrial facilities such as receiving and shipping department, tool room,
maintenance rooms and employee amenities – for the purpose of achieving the quickest
and smoothest production at the last cost

Bisleri plant at Andheri (E) has two different plants where complete production takes
place. In the one plant the cap and the bottle performs are manufactured and the other
plants has the place for performs to be blown in to bottles and the filling of the bottle is
done. This building also has the purification process of the water which has to be filled.

Manufacturing process
• The raw material that is stored in the warehouse is transporting to the processing plant
nearby.

• In the cap department where caps are produced. Materials which are in the form of
granules and emptied in the hopper of the injection moulding machine with a colorant and
the caps are produced of the characteristic green color of Bisleri. The caps that are
produced are automatically packed in the cartons. This semi finished products are
transported, after quality testing has been done, to what is called the filling department. In
the caps department there are 7 injections moulding machines.

• In the performs department which is located next to the caps department it is located in the
same plant. In the performs department PET material is used to manufacture perform
which are semi finished bottles. They are produced by using injection moulding machines.
After the performs are tested by the quality assurance department, they are packed in to
cartons and transferred to the filling department. In the performs department there are 7
injection moulding machines.

• In the blowing department the performs which are obtained from the performs department
are blown to form bottles. There are a total of 2 fully automatic blowing machines which
are directly connected from to the filter. There are total 5 semi automatic and automatic
blowing machines which are producing bottles every day.

• The filling department is situated in a closed and controlled environment to maintain the
hygiene. The bottles are transferred from one operation to other on conveyer belt. The
bottles are directly loaded on to the conveyer belt, first bottles passed through UV lights
to kill bacteria, then the bottles are cleaned by pure water , then the bottles are filled to
desired quantity and then they are automatically capped, then the sticker is put on the
bottle, then the price, then the manufacturing date, batch numbers are printed by spraying
machines on the bottles itself, then the bottles are passed through a screen of white light
where the workers manually check all the bottles for any defect, lastly they are packed in
the cartons and stored in the warehouse ready for transportation to its destination.

Observations & suggestion
• Our industrial visit for Bisleri started by entering the gate of Bisleri company situated at
Andheri (E),

• The entire campaign of the Bisleri was in green color which shows the environmental
friendly color

• The entire campaign was built around the tamper proof seals. The campaign focused on
the safety provided by the "breakaway" seal, by illustrating the ease with which
conventionally sealed bottles could be refilled and recycled.

• There was new design in the Bisleri products. The new design was patented to prevent it
from being copied by others. The new pack is trendy and has been well accepted by the
consumers as we have experienced in the case of 500 ml and 5 liter sizes." The new pack
also allowed better brand display. Vertical labeling was easier on flat sleeved packages. It
made label information visible from all sides of the bottle.

• Consistent quality and taste are two of the principal differences between bottled water
and tap water it means that the bottled water are safer then the tap water.

Opinion about industrial visit
My opinion is that the production management is very important in today’s competitive world
where cost cutting is norm rather than exception. Production management provides science for
effective profit maximization and optimum resources utilization.

Bisleri who in the past has been facing tough competition from the other brands has adopted
production management in the big way in order to maintain its lead in the packaged drinking
water market.

In this project I have shown the manufacturing process of the Bisleri and to show that people
consume mineral water not for the minerals, but for safety

And at last the Bisleri Company should concentrate on the production process more.
