Task

You are applying for a summer school in Bologna in June 2008. Your
application includes a form, a record of your achievements at school, 2 letters
of recommendations and an admission essay.

This essay is a key factor. It should be limited to 600 words and include the
following:
• relevant personal and academic information
• reasons for applying to the seminar
• an explanation of your intellectual and personal interest in the topic
• qualifications to complete the summer school
• what you hope to achieve by participating (including any individual
research and writing projects)
• the relation of the summer school to your undergraduate study.

Read the summer school programme overleaf, then think of what you can
say. Brainstorm first.

My admission essay - first sample

My interest in history came in early by reading history books and

things I yet do not know. Furthermore, I am a good learner and a
person with quite a big interest in many areas (such as film and music)
and I am able to connect information with many different topics. As I
read in your summer programme overleaf, the summer school will also
held the Greek and Latin language courses. I am
