EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In today’s corporate and competitive world, I find that Service sector has the maximum

Growth and potential as compared to the other sectors. Out of the service sector, Insurance

sector has the maximum growth rate of 70-80% while as FMCG sector has maximum

12- 15% of growth rate. This growth potential attracts me to enter in this sector and

SAHARA CARE HOUSE has given me the opportunity to work and gain insightful

experience in this highly competitive and growing sector. The project title of my training was

on “A comparative analysis of consumer behavior in relation to health care

products of SCH with respect to other brands present in the market” of

SAHARA CARE HOUSE. The project helped me to understand about the products or the

Plans of the company and how to promote the company’s Plans to customers. Even it

also helped me to know about various market competitors through the market research

and how is SAHARA different and better from it. Through the internship my negotiation

skills also increased and also came to know that to tackle any consumers is not so easy that

to Indian consumer’s as they are very much aware of many things.

RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY

19
Research Methodology

Research methodology is away to systematically solve research problem. In it we study the

various steps that are generally adopted by researcher in studying his research problem along

with logic behind them. It is necessary for a researcher to know not only the research

method/techniques but also the methodology. It may be noted, in the context of planning &

development that the significance of research lines in its quality and not in quantity.

Researcher should know how to apply particular research techniques, but they also need to

know which of these methods or techniques, are relevant and which are not, and what would

they mean and indicate and why?

Meaning of Research

“Research is common parlance refers to a search for knowledge. In

fact research is an act of scientific investigation.”

The project was divided in to the following steps.

To decide the Objective of the study

20
To decide research design and application

To decide the sources of data collection

To decide from data collection

To collect and organize data

To prepare the research report

To process and analyze report

1. To decide objective of the Study:-

21
This step is also research problem. Problem definition is the most critical part of the research

process. Research problem definition involves specifying the information needed by

management. The main objectives of the study are:

• To Create the Awareness of SAHARA CARE HOUSE, among people.

• To find out the level of customer satisfaction with the Plans, offers discount and

services offered by SAHARA CARE HOUSE

2. To decide research design & application:-

Research design involves defining the research problem, determining how to collect the data

and from whom, establishing the way the data will be analyzed estimating costs and the

preparation of the research approach. For this study, descriptive research was selected.

3. To decide Source of data there are two sources of data

Data Collection The data collection method is divided into these categories
DATA COLLECTION

PRIMARY DATA SECONDARY DATA

INTERVIEW PUBLICATIONS
METHOD (directories/ journals/newspaper etc.)

INVOICES FOR VEHICLE

OBSERVATION
METHOD BILLS RAISED FOR
CUSTOMER
COMPANY RECORD

Primary data:-

22
Primary data is the original data collected specifically for the problem.

Primary Sources
Primary data which is collected directly by the researcher, for this purpose various tools were
undertaken during the survey. Broadly we can classify them into “INTERVIEW METHOD &
OBSERVATION METHOD.”
INTERVIEW METHOD
For the collection of data from the Individual customers, interview , scheduling is very useful
tool. Research’s main aim of using this tool is to find out the customer’s satisfaction in respect
of various segments, although Information regarding vehicle’s mileage, engine power loading
capacity, braking & suspension system & overall performance were also collected with this
tool. As the Interview schedule is formed for the collection of specific data and observation it
stimulates the process of data collection, as per the schedule a set of standard questions were
asked to the Respected Customer’s.
OBSERVATION METHOD
Observation is the oldest method used by the researcher in investigation or in any kind of field

Training. Through this method the observer directly or indirectly observes the condition and

records the events. The advantage of this method is that it cross checks the data and

information, supplements and validates the data through interview scheduling.

Reason for selecting primary data:-

In terms of primary data a questionnaire has been used to interview desire sample units that

give accurate and up to data information as well better to research problem.

Research approaches: - Primary data can be collected in five main ways: through

Observation, focus groups, surveys, behavioral data, and experiments.

Research instruments: - Marketing researchers have a choice of three main researches

Instruments in collecting primary data:

 Questionnaires: - A questionnaire consists of questions presented to respondents for their

answers. Because of its flexibility, the questionnaire is by far the most common Instrument

used to collect primary data. Questions can be open-ended or closed Ended.

Secondary data:-
23
Data potentially useful in solving a current problem but that were collected for a different

purpose.

Reason for selecting secondary data:-

Secondary data can be gathered quickly and inexpensively, compared to primary data, it is

clear useful to study analyzing the recent development in the industry.

Contact methods: - Once the sampling plan has been determined, the marketing researcher

must decide how the subject should be contact:

 Mail questionnaire: - The mail questionnaire is the best way to reach people who would

not give personal interviews or whose responses might be biased or distorted by the

interviewers. Mail questionnaires require simple and clearly worded questions.

 Telephone interview: - Telephone interviewing is the best method for gathering

information quickly; the interviewer is also able to clarify questions if respondents do not

understand them. The response rate is typically higher than in the case of mailed

questionnaires.

 Personal interview: - Personal interviewing is the most versatile method. The interviewer

can ask more questions and record additional observations about the respondent, such as dress

and body language. Personal interviewing takes two forms. In arranged interviews,

respondents are contacted for an appointment, and often a small payment or incentive is

offered. Intercept interviews involve stopping people at a shopping mall or busy street corner

and requesting an interview.

 Online interviews: - There is increased use of online methods.

There are so many ways to use the Net to do research. In this method, researcher can include a

questionnaire on its Web site and offer a people to answer the questionnaire.

4. To decide from the data collection:-

24
For this project survey method was selected which was carried through personal interview,

online interview’s and Testimonials by the past and present user or members of SAHARA

CARE HOUSE because information from different customers where required for the analysis.

5. To organize & collect data:-

Once the researcher has formulated and development a research design including

Questionnaire second thing he has to decide whether he has to collect the information from all

the targeted customers. There can be two types of survey are possible.

 Sample Survey

 Census Survey

“For this project sample Survey was chosen”

Characteristics of the sample survey are:-

 It is cheaper than census survey

 It requires less time

 It is economical

 More detail information can be collected

 Deciding the sample plan requires following decisions

 Sample unit “Who is to be surveyed”

Sample

Sample is the true representation of the population by studying of the sample we can predict

the behavior of the population.

Sample Size: 30(in this case:-

Method of Sampling:- In this project, the survey was done within the market that means

probabilistic convenience Sampling was carried out.

6. To process & analyze data:-

After the data was collected it was tabulated, analyzed and interpreted to the conclusion reach.

Techniques Applied
25
Bar Chart: - A chart in which the length of the bar represents the amount of the item

associated with the bar.

Pie Chart: - A circle divided in two sections, such that each section represent the percentage

of the total area of a circle associates with one variable.

Types of Research

Along with this there may be 3 type of research methodology these are :-They are –

 Exploratory Research

 Descriptive Research

 Casual Research

“Our research is based on the exploratory research.”

Note: The charges mentioned are service charges only. The task fee (if any) would be

communicated after evaluation of the task and charged extra on actual.

It has been observed that our NRI friends are always worried about the health and well-being

of their parents and loved ones in India. With thousands of miles separating them from their

homeland, they cannot do anything else but persuade their elderly parents to take care of their

health and go for regular check-ups. How much they wish, they cannot accompany their

parents to doctors or even facilitate their hospital visit. In the absence of proper care and

attention, parents quite often, neglect their health. This leads to a feeling of helplessness and

guilt amongst our NRI friends.

Realizing this sensitive and emotional dilemma of NRIs and PIOs, Sahara Care House has

added a Regular Health Check-up Plan under its bouquet of Preventive Health Services. The

package includes regular health check-ups and specialist consultancies to ensure that

beneficiaries get the best of medical attention. Routine diagnostic tests have also been added

in the plan to detect onset of disease and ensure treatment in time.

• Regular Health Check-up Plan covers -

4 General Physician check-ups at clinic

ones is in the utilization of profit, be it for best possible enlistment of its workforce and for

‘Sahara India Pariwar is proud to have reached today new horizons of growth and development

development. On the basis of our philosophy of Collective Materialism we have always given

importance to the fact that profit earning is the Quantitative aspect whereas the proper

utilization of profit is the Qualitative aspect. Ironically, we only recognize and get recognized

by the Quantitative aspect. I, therefore earnestly appeal to one and all in Politics, Media,

Business etc. that every action, reaction, selection, appreciation or criticism should be oriented

strictly towards the Qualitative aspect. I appeal to anybody and everybody to accord top

55

PHILOSOPHY

SAHARA INDIA PARIWAR'S PHILOSOPHY - "Collective Materialism"

In any human relationship, it becomes imperative to take into consideration the materialistic

aspect of life - we do so but by giving it second priority. The first priority is given to

emotional aspect and with perfect blending of materialism with emotionalism, results in

continuous collective growth for collective sharing and caring, that gives an impetus to our

philosophy - "COLLECTIVE MATERIALISM".

BHARTIYATA

There is a religion higher than religion itself - it is the INDIAN NATIONALITY. The swirl of

the Three colour never fails to move a Sahara Worker. For we believe, it is the great feeling

that transcends all castes, creed and sects. Bharat Parva is Celebrated on every 26th of January

and 15th of August with a spirit and gaiety rarely seen .It comes from our heart.

Literature Survey
What is Health Insurance? It is a contract between the Insurer & the Insured wherein the

former agrees to pay to the latter hospitalization expenses to the extent of an agreed sum

assured in the event of any medical treatment out of an illness or an injury. In the nutshell the

Health Insurance is a policy which covers you & your family against medical expenses due to

sickness, accident etc. The Insured in return has to pay a regular premium to the insurer.

Why you need Health Insurance?: It is indubitable that Health Insurance has become an

important element in one‟s life owing to increasing medical costs these days & uncertain

environment; it comes to your rescue acting precautionary measure in today‟s tough time

while acting as a life saver boat in case of any

medical contingency. If you don‟t have Health Insurance, you end up paying hefty medical

bills in the event of hospitalization out of illness or injury, therefore insuring your family

against Health Insurance is a must thing & should surely be a part of your regular financial

planning. All we have is our health which needs to be protected & taken care of by acquiring

the best health insurance policy suited for us.

Types of Health Insurance Plans:- Health Insurance Plans are segregated into three

categories, firstly the Mediclaim Plans by Non- Life or General Insurance Companies,

secondly the Hospitalization Cash Policy by both Life & Non-Life Insurers and thirdly the

Critical Care Plans offered by both Life & Non-Life Insurers. Mediclaim Policy is basically a

reimbursement plan offered by General Insurers wherein the insured gets reimbursed of the

total bill amount of the medical expenses to the extent of an agreed sum assured. It includes

the room charges, ICU charges, surgery & doctor charges etc. It includes a lot of exclusions

63
which the policy holder must read before buying the Mediclaim. The

Mediclaim includes the following two further categories:

1) Family Floater Plan:- It is a very common plan these days which covers your entire

family under one premium payment giving coverage to the family members together. This

plan is being offered by almost all the General Insurance Companies with a specific criterion

of covering individuals in the age group between 90days and 55years.

2) Group Mediclaim Insurance: It is the second variant of Mediclaim which covers a group

of individuals simultaneously. This form of insurance includes the category of Employer‟s

Health Insurance Cover wherein the sum assured normally varies between Rs. 15,000 and

Rs.5, 00,000.

Hospitalization Cash Policy:- is a plan offered by both Life & Non-Life Insurers wherein the

Insured gets pre-determined cash benefit on a daily basis irrespective of the hospitalization

expenses being incurred. It is not a fully comprehensive health insurance plan because it

doesn‟t cover the cost of medical treatment but pays lump sum amount to the policy holder on

per day basis during the treatment/hospitalization. It acts a complimentary plan to the

Mediclaim

plans. TATA-AIG General Insurance & Royal Sundaram offer Hospital cash benefit plan

among Non-Life Insurers.

Critical-Care Plan:- It is offered by both Life & General Insurers covering an individual for

certain specified critical illnesses like cancer, stroke etc. This is also offered as a rider by Life

Insurance companies for quite some time now attached to their Life Insurance Plans. You

must take a cover either as a rider or as a standalone plan in your portfolio.

Health Insurance Tax Benefits:- Health Insurance products are eligible for tax benefits

under section 80D of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Premium paid under health insurance holds a

tax deduction upto Rs 15,000 for you, your spouse and dependent children. Further more you

64
can also claim another Rs. 15, 000 for tax deduction for your parents, in case of senior citizens

(65 years or more) the above deductions are increased to Rs. 20,000.

Family Floater Plan-in detail :-For instance a person wants a health insurance for himself,

his spouse & their children, the Family Floater plan offers insurance coverage to the entire

family under one premium payment. Let‟s take an example wherein the person insures

himself, his spouse & the dependent children with the individual insurance plans with a sum

assured of Rs. 1 lakh each, he ends up paying premium ranging between Rs. 1000 - Rs. 2000

for each family member. On the other hand if the

person would have opted for the family floater plan with the sum assured of Rs. 3 lakhs, the

total premium would surely be less than the separate premium payments in individual health

insurance plans. Moreover the separate health plan holds the cover of only Rs. 1 lakh as

against Rs. 3 lakh in case of the Floater plan thus helping the family in case the medical

treatment costs go beyond that.

Cashless Hospitalization :-Cashless settlement implies that an individual doesn‟t have to

settle a hospital bill out of his pocket; rather the bill gets settled directly by the insurance

company. When you buy a Health Plan you are issued a Health Card along with the policy

documents which would entitle you to get cashless claim at any of the company‟s network

hospitals.

What do you do in case of a claim?

You should walk into a network hospital & get the treatment done & the bills paid through the

Health Card. In case of hospitalization you need to give the card number to the network

hospital, you must pre-authorize from the TPA (Intermediary between the Insurance Company

& the hospital) & will process the cashless settlement after the verification of your policy

details. You should know the formalities required for cashless settlement as some insurance

65
companies are required to be notified 48 hours before hospitalization. If you don‟t opt for

cashless settlement, you need to settle bills at the hospital and get them reimbursed later.

Health Insurance Covers & Benefits

• Room & Boarding expenses: There are further limits to this feature varying from company

to company.

• Ambulance Charges: They are normally covered upto Rs. 1000.

• ICU charges, doctor, consulting, anesthetist and surgeon fees, operation and other diagnostic

and surgical material costs are covered.

• Day-Care expenses such as Chemotherapy, Dialysis & Radiotherapy etc.

• Pre & Post Hospitalization Expenses which normally are 30 days prior and 60 days after

hospitalization.

• Cashless Hospitalization is offered by almost all Non-Life Insurers.

Important Pointers in Health Insurance

• You must read the policy exclusions & the limitations in various covers properly before

buying a Health Insurance plan because you should know what all covers your policy include

& exclude.

• You should note the number of network hospitals covered in the Insurer‟s list of network

hospitals as this will help you to get cashless & hassle-free claim.

• You must read the names of critical diseases being covered before buying a Critical-Care

plan.

• You must know that the medical expenses incurred within the first 30 days of buying the

health insurance plan are not covered unless the injury has occurred out of an accident.

• You must disclose all the Pre-Existing diseases to the insurer before buying the health plan

as the insurer doesn‟t cover them, now a day‟s General Insurers have started covering these

diseases normally after 3-4 years varying from company to company.

FINDINGS

As the people think that Health care policy is a tool to protect their family & a tax saving device. They
are aware of the fact & realizing its, importance. The company should try to expand & build up its
infrastructure because there is a large potential for health care policy in India.
1. .Company should come up with its branchs in different cities. With the objective and goals to meet the
demands & expectations of the public. Because the entrance of private players will increase the
competition and it would be a tough task to secure a good position in market.

2. .As seen from the survey that at present 40% of the customer are having medical insurance policy out
of which 60% of the customer are planning for new investments. So it can be a good potential for the
company and they should make an attempt to trap these customers. Still literacy level of people is high
in different areas.

3. Majority of respondents are willing to avail all the extra benefits with their Health care Policy by
paying a nominal fee or charges with their policy premium. Most of respondents are interested in
Critical Illness benefit

4. The investors were interested more in Policies of LIC because it is a Government body.

82
CONCLUSION

83
1 By Graph 1 and Graph 2 we can conclude that most of the users are aware of the

medical insurance and there is a huge potential for companies in this market because still

most of the market is untapped. This shows that people are becoming more health conscious

day by day and taking more care of their health.

2 The share of Individual type policy is more than family type policy because family

type policy is introduced later in the market of health insurance earlier companies came up

with only individual policy option. Today also if u don‟t want to get the benefit of floater

amount some companies give better options if you take individual health insurance for your

family members even the aggregate premium is less in latter case with some companies.

3 Most of the medical insurance comes from the business background this shows that

companies will find more prospects among business class people. Also government

employees already get medical insurance from their respective organization.

4. Most of the users are medically fit at the time or before the time of taking the policy this

again shows that people are becoming more health conscious and have started believing

firmly that “Prevention is better than cure”.

5. ICICI Lombard is the market leader with market share of 15%, Reliance General

Insurance is second with the market share of 13%, while Sahara Care House has a very low

market share of only 3%.

6. The policy having mediclaim amount of 2 Lac or less than 3 Lac is liked most by the

customer.

7. Online mode of purchasing the policy is growing.

84
8. Most of the policy holders make the purchase decision on the basis of Company Brand

Name/Image or on the recommendation of their near and dear one‟s.

9. Customer before purchasing the policy also look for waiting period, domiciliary

treatment and diseases excluded are looked equally and reimbursement in hospitals other

than cashless hospitals of the company is also considered by a consumer before purchasing

the policy.

10. 93% customers are satisfied with the policy they have which means almost every

customer is satisfied with the policy he/she have.

85
RECOMMENDATIONS

1. Sahara Care House should gear up to increase it‟s market share. It should add an option of

individual type policy or introduce new plan for this type of policy.

2. It should also provide more range for the mediclaim amount as the consumer also want to

go in a range of more than 2 Lac.

3. It should do some publicity and advertisement of it‟s services even if the mode of selling of

services is direct selling.

4. Online purchasers are growing because the companies give installment payment option

through online purchase and even give benefit of 0% interest on EMI. So Sahara Care House

should look this seriously.

5. Even the companies while selling the policies online does not ask for any documents. So no

documentation feature of Sahara is no more beneficial to it.

6. Sahara Care House should promote it‟s medical insurance by stressing more on the key

features like covering pre-existing diseases after 6 months, no medical even after the age of

50yrs and apart from the diseases excluded all other diseases are covered by Sahara Care

House from the first day of purchase of policy without any waiting period.

7. sahara Care House is part of the Sahara India Pariwar, one of India's largest business

conglomerates with an asset base of over USD 10.87 billion. With a workforce of over 910,

000 workers, it has a consumer base of nearly 90 million and 1707 offices across the country.

Its diversified business interests include , Tourism and Hospitality.

Sahara Care House believe in direct marketing. Sahara care house has to adopt mass media

and print media for create awareness in the market.Utility services and personaliged services

are good for those people who live far away from home and they provide these facilities to
86
her parents.Sahara Care House health insurance really good comparison then other insurance

LIMITATIONS OF THE RESEARCH

87
 Sample size constraint: Instead of following statistical formula in determining the sample

size we arbitrarily arrived at a figure of 100

 Time constraint: Apart from the field work very less time were available for the research;

the research therefore could not be exhaustive.

 Monetary constraint: As this research was conducted for academic purpose the money

spent had to be very limited.

 Place constraint: Since we are located in an area far away from the city the respondents

were a homogenous lot.
