Workshop: Current Eating Disorder

Treatment Approaches & Perceptions

Wednesday 8th June 2011 (9:15 – 16:00)
Acorn House – Conference Suite, Central Milton Keynes
Eating Disorders:
Eating disorders are an often miss-understood mental health issue affecting over 1.6 million people in Britain,
with up to 20% of sufferers dying as a result of their illness. Developing speciality and an increase in evidence
based treatments results in a challenge for professionals to remain up-to-date with progress in the field. This
workshop aims to increase general understanding about eating disorders, the variety of treatment approaches
available, highlight the benefits and challenges related to carers involvement and consider the personal
perceptions of sufferers themselves in order to explore motivations and treatment considerations.

About the Presenter:

Emma Bacon is the Founder and Project Manager of BalancED MK – a Community Interest Company created to
provide support to people directly and indirectly affected by eating disorders in the Milton Keynes area. The
combination of Emma’s own personal experience of recovery from Anorexia, the experience of founding and
running BalancED MK and the professional development she has partaken in over the years (including eating
disorder related training courses) makes Emma the perfect speaker on the subject. Emma’s unique blend of
