bio
Hailing from Charleston, S.C., a city known for its
southern charm, great seafood and cultural history,
Righchus is slowly, but surely, adding his name to
that list. The hip hop artist—born Matt Bostick—has
been rapping since the third grade, but it wasn’t
until four years ago, while pursuing a B.A. in
Journalism from the University of South Carolina-
Upstate (he graduated May 2010), that he decided
to pursue it as a career.

Inspired by religion, his family, movies and David Ruffin, Righchus’

style is self-described as “conscious down south.” Truth is a focus of
the music he creates—truth to himself, where he is from and the world
around him. Loaded with metaphors and a southern flavor, every line
is a representation of Righchus. His first LP, “Chaos Theory” was
released September 2009 on iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon.

Righchus has performed hundreds of shows throughout the southeast,

including a special performance at Charleston Fashion Week 2011
with singer Quiana Parler.

He has built and tested an enthusiastic stage presence, opening up for

artists Warren G, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Tech N9ne, The
Movement, Wiz Khalifa and J. Cole. His music video for his single “Go
Hard” won the 2009 South Carolina Online Hip-Hop Award for Best
Video. Additionally, the music video for “Ridin’” gained accolades
from BET and Writer’s Block Media. Righchus has been featured on the
cover of Charleston Scene magazine and Charleston City Paper several
times. He was named ‘Best Local Hip Hop Artist’ by the readers of the
Charleston City Paper for 2010 and 2011.

Righchus’ new album “Sweetgrass & Supras,” available on datpiff.com

and hotnewhiphop.com as a free download, is very synth-driven with
a very honest southern feel. It’s mostly inspired by the life he lives in
search of success through his craft and art. He also has an EP coming
out this summer titled, “The Illa,” which is a very up-tempo, feel good
sound, with live instruments, a lot of great hooks and even greater
verses.

“Music is about the expression of art, love and creativity,” says

Righchus. “We shouldn’t be afraid to get out of our boundaries and
rap about betrayal, love, passion and motivation and try to set a new
standard for hip-hop in the city.”
