Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) Classification
* The values given in class A1 refer to the maximum total input power at a dimming level of 25% ie. 50% of the A3 class of the same lamp.
Only high-performance A1 electronic ballasts are dimmable. Additionally, these ballasts unless actually dimmed, are only as energy
efficient as low-performance A3 ballasts.
Ballast Lumen Factor (BLF)

The BLF is defined as the ratio of the light output of the test system (test ballast / reference lamp combination) to the light output of the
reference system (reference ballast / reference lamp combination).
BLF = Lt/Lr
where
Lt is the measured light output of the reference lamp when connected to the test ballast, expressed in lumens (lm).
Lf. is the measured light output of the reference lamp when connected to the reference ballast, expressed in lumens (lm).
Lt and Lf. shall be measured according to EN 50294.

LOCASTE SERIES
The Locaste family of luminaires incorporate lens and diffusers held in a metal frame which has a hinged

latching system holding the assembly securely to the body. The unique universal body design allows the
luminaire to be surface mounted, T/Bar recessed; or with the addition of the PF frame, recessed into a
suspended plaster ceiling.
The Locaste may also be manufactured as a dedicated suspended plaster ceiling luminaire or supplied to
accommodate 246mm x 20mm AC slots for air delivery or return.

SEALED RECESSED PLASTER
The sealed recessed plaster range of
SPECIAL APPLICATION
luminaires are designed to prevent
contaminants, such as dirt & insects, from
building up or entering the environment via
the luminaire. There are no areas on the
body or lens panel where dirt particles can
accumulate. To prevent contaminant build-
up, the external side of the lens panel has a
smooth surface & the body of the luminaire is
constructed such that there are no horizontal
surfaces where dirt can sit. A rubber gasket
provides a good seal between the lens
panel & the body of the luminaire to prevent
contaminant entry to the environment via
the luminaire. They are used extensively in
the food industry in areas of preparation &
display, and anywhere where a general dust
free environment is essential.
ATLAS SERIES
The Atlas sealed plaster is a front access luminaire for recessed mounting and incorporates a
1mm thick lanyard retained diffuser frame. The diffuser consists of two layers. The bottom layer is
a clear acrylic lens for easy cleaning. The top overlay is a prismatic acrylic diffuser.

METIS SERIES T5
The Metis family of luminaires incorporates sophisticated louvre technology to meet the needs of the
21st century modern office. Glare control is attributed to the contoured side reflector providing a 55º
LOW BRIGHT LOUVRE
cut-off across the tube, with lateral blades providing 63º to cut-off along the tube. Louvres are available
in specular or semi-specular and are designed to illuminate the horizontal working surface while the
sharp lamp cut-off reduces veiling reflection in computer screens. The multi-tube louvre features an
apparent brightness control separation between cell groups. Brightness contrast reduction is created
by brightening the dark area between cell groups. The louvre assembly in a metal frame which has a
hinged latching system holding the assembly securely to the body. The unique universal body design
allows the luminaire to be surface mounted, T/Bar recessed or, with the addition of the PF frame,
recessed into a suspended plaster ceiling. The Metis may also be manufactured as a dedicated suspended
plaster ceiling luminaire or supplied to accommodate 246mm x 20mm AC slots for air delivery or return.
The high light output ratio and optimal glare control of the Metis integrated with DALI lighting control
systems offer straightforward solutions for handling all kinds of ECOSmart lighting/energy management
tasks for almost any structural condition.

Davis Lighting offers a range of
emergency luminaires for many

luminaires are available as a
variable rate charging unit or dual
rate. Computer monitored units
are also available upon request.
The luminaires may be supplied to
a number of standards including Australian
AS2293, Singapore SS263 part 2, & IEC60598.22.
Single tube luminaires are available in non-maintained
or maintained models, while twin tube luminaires are available in
maintained or sustained models.
All spacing tables & classifications included in this section refer to Australian AS2293.1 &
3 respectively. The luminaires are multi-classified in accordance with Appendix C, Clause 3.1 of
AS2293.3 & the spacing tables as published in this catalogue are for Australian use only.
Non-maintained (single tube) An emergency luminaire in which the lamp is energised only when the
supply to the normal lighting fails.
Maintained (single tube) An emergency luminaire in which the lamp is in operation at all times
when normal or emergency lighting is required.
Maintained (twin tube) An emergency luminaire in which both lamps are in operation during
times of normal supply and the emergency lamp remains on when
emergency lighting is required.
Sustained (twin tube) An emergency luminaire in which one lamp is in operation during times
of normal supply and the other (emergency) lamp is energised when
normal supply fails & emergency lighting is required.

The emergency oyster construction consists of a white acrylic diffuser held on a discreet metal
EMERGENCY
base by three unobtrusive catches forming a low circular profile. EPDM seals are provided
between the body at the ceiling and also at the body to the diffuser. These seals restrict insect
intrusion to give a clean overall appearance. Installation is made easy by having the electronic
control gear, emergency inverter and batteries integral to the luminaire. The emergency oyster
matches the lines of the 40W parent luminaire and complements the parent when an unbroken
array of luminaires is required. It may be used as a standalone for toilets/rest rooms. Typical
applications are dining areas, foyers, corridors, malls and switchboard cupboards/rooms.

The Titan can be surface or recess mounted.

MEDIUM BAY
The recessed mounted model is suitable for both

T/Bar and plaster ceilings. It is available in both
symmetrical and asymmetrical models. This HID
luminaire is supplied with clear flat glass lens in
a hinged frame. Glare shield louvres fitted to the
reflector controls glare, so often a problem with
HID luminaires. This luminaire is widely used in the
petroleum industry for the under canopy lighting of
service stations. The symmetrical models are used
for general lighting, while the asymmetrical models
are used to provide lighting on the face of the
petrol pumps. Control gear is mounted on a tray.

DEIMOS
The Deimos HID luminaire may be used in cool
room applications. The luminare is available in a
COOL ROOM
surface mounted or recessed model with control

gear integrally mounted on a tray or remote from
the luminaire. The recessed mounted model comes
standard with above and below ceiling access to
lamp and control gear. Deimos is designed with a
E39 Lamp holder to accept a clear ellipsoildal or
tubular lamps. The Deimos body is generaly sealed
to IPX4 with the installer required to seal the fixing
and entry points to suit the final application.
For cool room applications where the temperatures
fall below 5°C. Please contact sales office for details.

Application example
Highbay Lighting is suitable for mounting heights
typically 7 metres to 20 metres. Metal reflector
highbays provide high horizontal illuminance on

the work plane, but care must be taken in their

selection if vertical illuminance is also important in the
installation. High vertical illuminance is provided by
the use of translucent reflectors made from materials
such as polycarbonate & acrylic. While the use of
these translucent reflectors may not achieve the high
horizontal illuminance of the metal reflector models
more light is reflected from ceilings & walls, and in
many cases may provide a higher quality lighting
installation.
HB PENDANT MOUNTED HID HIGH BAY

The HB pendant mounted budget high bay is a "true" High Bay specifically suited for high mount
installations. The luminaires are supplied standard with 25mm cable entry for hard wiring or 1.5
metre flex and plug. Please check with your local sales office for the standard supplied in your
area. Control gear is mounted on a tray. Lamp holder is E39, lamp is coated elliptical.

The igniter for these light sources is installed in the relevant Davis Lighting luminaire, with the
exception of the 70w HPS models. The lamp used in the Davis Lighting 70w HPS models
incorporates an internal igniter.
250w – 400w M/Halide remote control gear (suffix IG) does include an igniter. This remote control
gear may be used to a maximum distance of 100 metres from the luminaire it is controlling. This
is due to the restrictions of the igniter.
150w – 400w HPS remote control gear is supplied either without an igniter, where a standard HPS
igniter is fitted to the luminaire, or with an igniter (suffix IG). The remote control gear fitted with an
igniter uses a special tapped ballast & matching igniter for long distance operation. They may be
used to a maximum distance of 10 metres from the luminaire for 150 watt, & 40 metres from the

The Sheratan is a compact fluorescent recessed mounted range of downlight that are available
in both 150mm & 200mm models. There are four (4) reflector styles. Open Bottom, Drop Glass,
Recessed Glass, and Cross blade. The Recessed Glass model is IP44 rated which makes
it suitable for bathrooms. The reflectors are available in either matt or specular finish. The
downlights are designed for lamps to be mounted in the horizontal position. The lamps are
TC-D type when used with conventional control gear & TC-DE when used with electronic control
gear. The downlights may be supplied for hard wiring or fitted with a flex & plug. Both 150mm
& 200mm diameter models have three (3) ceiling fixing brackets to ensure no movement of the
downlight after installation. The fixing clips are stainless steel.

SINOPE COMPACT FLUORESCENT DOWNLIGHTS
The Sinope compact fluorescent range of downlights are available in nominal 200mm diameter

models. There are two versions, either open or enclosed. The enclosed version is supplied with
a flush mounted tempered glass rated to IP44. The Sinope utilises a specular reflector and is

CIRCULAR
OYSTER CEILING LIGHTS
The oyster construction consists of a white acrylic diffuser held on a discreet metal base by three

unobtrusive catches forming a low circular profile. EPDM seals are provided between the body
at the ceiling and also at the body to the diffuser. These seals restrict insect intrusion to give
a clean overall appearance. Installation is made easy with the electronic control gear integral
to the luminaire. The oyster is complimented by an emergency version which is housed in the
40W electronic oyster. The oyster is an ideal selection for areas requiring an unbroken array of
luminaires, dining areas, foyers, corridors, shopping malls and homes.

The QS16 is an IP56 surface mounted photoelectric cell, used for remote switching of lighting

If glare evaluation is a consideration for luminaire selection, the following tables may be used as a
DIFFUSER PATTERNS
guide to the comparative performance of the various diffuser panels.
This table may be used as a guide only and is based on a room size of 12m x 12m, with a ceiling height
of 2.7m, and reflection values of ceilings, walls & floors at 0.7, 0.5, and 0.2 respectively. As a general rule,
rooms under this size will have a reduced glare index while rooms above will have a slight increase in glare
index.

The glare evaluation system should be used if the room is large, where a significant number of luminaires are
in the field of view. This is normally rooms that have a room index of 2 or more. To calculate the room index
use the formula below.
