Elijah’s and Elisha’s Mantle

Topic: Elijah’s and Elisha’s Mantle.

Aim: To identify spiritual lessons from Elijah’s use and sharing of his
mantle.

Know: That the righteousness of Jesus grants us new life, a new


role and new responsibilities.

Feel:A sense of the solemnity of God’s call to us to partner with Him


in mission.

Introduction

An ancient form of clothing was known as a mantle. A mantle


was basically a coat or a cape, and the statement it made
was that the one wearing it was either a person of temporal
authority (such as a royal personage or a military leader), or
someone of religious importance, (such as a priest or
prophet); Elijah wore a mantle to indicate that he
represented the highest authority (God).

Statement: The voice of God may be clearer to us in our


moments of loneliness.
Read: 1 Kings 19: 11-13.
Meditate: Vertical relationship.
Question: Why did Elijah wrap his face in a mantle?
