A creative, entertaining approach to resurrecting the undead church

T here is something missing in the church today. Stuck in

a rut of routines and rituals, the church is caught up in
doing what it is “supposed to do” but is lacking the true essence
Zombie Church
Breathing Life Back into the Body of Christ
of what it is supposed to provide: life. Real faith—and a real Tyler Edwards
relationship with Jesus—is not about playing by the rules,
attending services, and praying before meals. Real faith is more
than religion.
Believing there is a way to breathe life back into the church,
Tyler Edwards adopts a contemporary and entertaining
metaphor—zombies—to highlight and challenge the
problematic attitude of today’s believers. Written for the
discouraged, disenfranchised, and anyone unsatisfied with
their same-old church routine, Zombie Church challenges
readers to turn away from hollow religious practices, which
characterize “zombie Christianity,” and turn toward a radical
relationship with Jesus.
While other books have addressed legalism in the
church, this is the only book that effectively capitalizes on
a popular entertainment genre in order to diagnose and
correct the problem. Realizing that even his own church is
part of that problem, Edwards has written an accessible and
often humorous book that will help believers change the
Spirit-draining (or life-draining) habits that stop them from
achieving a full, fulfilling life in Christ.

Tyler Edwards graduated from Ozark Christian College with

bachelors degrees in both Biblical Literature and Christian
Ministry. He has spoken at various campus ministry events
in Missouri and served overseas in Mbale, Uganda. Now
the senior pastor at Cornerstone Christian Church, Tyler is
pursuing a masters in New Testament studies.

For married women who feel like single parents

Married Mom, Solo Parent

Finding God’s Strength to Face the Challenge B ookstore shelves are full of parenting resources for moms
who are newly divorced or widowed. But where do moms
turn if they feel like a single parent—but they’re not? Whether
Carla Anne Coroy he is away on business, deployed in the military, or obsessing
over a computer game, dad may not be available for a variety of
reasons. Moms who parent in this situation still need help and
don’t necessarily relate to the advice given in divorce recovery
or single parenting resources.
Married Mom, Solo Parent is a common-sense, down-to-
earth look at the struggles wives and mothers face when their
husband is not actively involved in family life. Writing from her
own experience as a married single mom, Carla Anne Coroy
will help wives and mothers sort through their questions,
such as: Can I do this alone? How do I raise kids to honor
their father? How do I give my children a healthy perspective
of marriage if they never see one in action? With practical
suggestions, anecdotes, and biblical teaching, this book will
encourage moms to see their position as a high calling, to
find healing for their worries and frustrations, and to tap into
God’s strength for help in facing the daily challenge of being a
married mom, solo parent.

Carla Anne Coroy has served full-time with organizations

such as Youth for Christ and Crown Financial Ministries,
and is currently developing an international mentoring
organization for youth and a ministry to wives who
parent alone. She runs the Married Single Mom blog at
www.carlaannecoroy.blogspot.com. She speaks regularly
and serves as a staff writer for an online Christian women’s
magazine Mentoring Moments for Christian Women. Carla
Anne lives in Canada with her husband and four homeschooled
children.

A marriage book that husbands will actually want to read!

E veryone admires people who play hurt, from the superstar

athlete to the journeyman player who finishes the game
even when hurt, sick, or falling apart. Everyone looks up
Playing Hurt
A Guy’s Strategy for a Winning Marriage
to these athletes and wants to mimic their “never give up” Brian Goins
attitude. Except when it comes to marriage. Most husbands
are willing to take a bullet for their wives in a life-and-death
situation; but when his bride fires the bullet—hurls an insult,
disrespects him in public, ignores his foreplay in private—he’d
rather throw in the towel than play through the pain.
Playing Hurt is a biblical playbook for marriage that speaks
in the language most men understand—the language of sports.
Using a sports analogy to explain the motivation, means, and
methods of playing hurt, author Brian Goins shows men how
to overcome the temptation to stay on the bench. Playing Hurt
is more about inspiration than instruction. It’s about finding
the motivation to stay in the game, despite the pain. It’s about
becoming like the One who knew more about nails and thorns
than any superstar athlete. Using Ephesians 5 as a biblical
basis, this book will call husbands to be the heros they long to
be—men who play hurt in order to win at marriage.

Brian Goins is the author or editor of numerous study guides,

workbooks, and Bible studies that he has developed for Insight
for Living (Chuck Swindoll) and Walk Thru the Bible. When
he’s not traveling across the country as a Family Life Weekend
to Remember speaker, he and his family reside in North
Carolina.

Understanding the gospel in a whole-Bible context

The World-Tilting Gospel

Embracing a Biblical Worldview and Hanging on Tight T he first generation of Christians were not popular. They
were ridiculed, persecuted, yet according to Acts 17:6–7,
they “turned the world upside down.” As a result, their message
Dan Phillips was communicated louder and clearer than any message before
or since. Even with today’s social medias, big-name celebrities,
and shiny evangelism techniques that add glitz and glamour to
the gospel, today’s Christians fail to communicate as effectively
as the first followers of Christ. Simply put, the early church
turned the world upside down, but today’s church has been
turned upside down by the world.
Believing that this shift is a result of too many Christians
failing to adopt a whole-Bible worldview, author and
popular blogger Dan Phillips offers an easy-to-understand,
conversational, and engaging analysis of the gospel and the
results it once had—and should have again. Drawing on
decades of studying the Bible’s Hebrew and Greek texts,
Phillips clearly draws out the Bible’s teaching of God’s eternal
plan as started in Genesis and played out through each book of
Scripture. Written with the same accessible tone that has made
Phillips’s blogs popular to thousands of readers, The World-
Tilting Gospel challenges believers to hold fast to a biblical
worldview even if it makes them unpopular. “When Christians
are again gripped by that gospel rather than obsessing about
being liked by the world,” writes Phillips, “they will be able to
turn the world upside-down again.”

Dan Phillips (MDiv, Talbot Theological Seminary) has served

as pastor in four churches and has taught seminary and college
classes in New Testament studies, Hebrew, and Old Testament
theology. He has preached and presented seminars on Proverbs
and the Sovereignty of God, written biblical newspaper
columns and tracts, and hosted a radio talk show. With an
ongoing conference and pulpit ministry, Dan is most broadly
known for his writing on the Pyromaniacs blog, with Phil
Johnson and Frank Turk (http://teampyro.blogspot.com), and
at his own blog, Biblical Christianity (http://bibchr.blogspot
.com). Dan lives in Sacramento with his amazing wife, Valerie.
They have four children and around six cats.

Where does technology belong in the biblical story of redemption?

B elievers and unbelievers alike are saturated with

technology, yet most give it little if any thought.
Consumers buy and upgrade as fast as they can, largely
From the Garden to the City
The Redeeming and Corrupting Power of Technology
unaware of technology’s subtle yet powerful influence. In a John Dyer
world where technology changes almost daily, many are left to
wonder: Should Christians embrace all that is happening? Are
there some technologies that we need to avoid? Does the Bible
give us any guidance on how to use digital tools and social
media?
An experienced Web developer and writer on technology
and culture, John Dyer answers these questions and more
by walking through the story of the Bible and introducing
key ideas about how technology and culture interact. Dyer
first analyzes the biblical, theological, and philosophical
foundations of technology and then studies several examples
that show how technology can influence the spiritual life. For
youth pastors, college-aged readers, and anyone interested in
understanding how technology fits with faith, From the Garden
to the City fills a gap for biblically-informed literature in a
technological world.

“The burgeoning field of internet possibilities has very little

written from a Christian perspective, much less from a gifted
artist like John Dyer.”
—J. Scott Horrell, Professor of Theological Studies,
Dallas Theological Seminary

“Of all the voices speaking and writing on the subject today,
John Dyer’s is among the voices I most respect. [His] unique
combination of technological and theological passion, insight,
and credentials make him an author and thought leader that
people of faith need to hear from.”

Develop a family-equipping ministry

Trained in the Fear of God

Family Ministry in Theological, Historical, and Practical D r. Randy Stinson and Dr. Timothy Paul Jones have been the
primary architects of the theological foundations for what
has become known as “family-equipping ministry”—a recogni-
Perspective tion that the generations need one another and that parents have
Randy Stinson and Timothy Paul Jones, Editors an inherent responsibility for the discipleship of their children.
Trained in the Fear of God encourages the church and its
leaders and pastors to shift away from the current “silos” para-
digm of age-specific youth ministries to a more holistic ap-
proach rooted in ministry to and by families. Stinson and Jones
draw upon the expertise of seventeen scholars and practitioners
to provide the biblical and theological foundation for doing
so, followed by practical steps in implementing foundational
insights. Among the seventeen contributors are Albert Mohler,
Robert Plummer, Bruce Ware, and James Hamilton.

“Churches that don’t minister holistically to families in the next

generation will die. Randy Stinson and Timothy Paul Jones
know the stakes for family ministry, and they cast a compelling
picture of how to move toward a gospel-focused mission to see
families conformed to the image of Christ. This book will prompt
you to think, to scribble notes, and probably even to call together
some key leaders of your church to do a new thing together.”
—Russell D. Moore, Dean of the School of Theology, The
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky

“I thank God for Randy Stinson and Timothy Paul Jones who
have served us well by bringing together some of the best minds
and hearts in family ministry. In doing so, they have provided
the church with an excellent resource for pursuing the joy of the
next generations.”
—David Michael, Pastor for Parenting and
Family Discipleship, Bethlehem Baptist Church,
Minneapolis, Minnesota

New York Times best-selling author Gary Chapman has
partnered with Paul White to write The Five Languages of
Appreciation in the Workplace. This four-year-long project
applies the concepts of the five love languages to work-based
relationships. Just as individuals have a primary love language
in family relationships, they also have a primary appreciation
language in the work setting. Supervisors, employees, and
team members will learn the languages of appreciation at work,
and how they can identify their primary, secondary, and least
meaningful languages of appreciation (by using the Managing
by Appreciation Inventory).
The languages of appreciation can be utilized to improve
workplace relationships in a variety of contexts.

Gary Chapman (PhD) is the author of the New York Times

more than thirty-five years of pastoring and marriage
counseling experience, he travels the world presenting
seminars to couples who want to improve their marriage

A call for the present generation to return to the true meaning

of authentic faith
Fe auténtica
Reclaiming Christianity I n this collection of essays, Tozer calls each of us to truly
examine our hearts and stop simply playing at religion so
that we can experience all that God has for us.
A. W. Tozer; James L. Snyder, editor Until the day he died, A. W. Tozer never deviated from
exhorting the church to walk like those who truly belong to
the kingdom of God. He longed to see the church return to the
Holy Spirit–filled, humble, loving fellowship that typified the
early church. Tozer’s uncompromising words will remind us of
what is missing and challenge us to shun what is superficial so
that we can walk toward authentic faith.

A. W. Tozer (1897–1963) was a minister in the Christian and

Missionary Alliance from 1919 to 1963. During his lifetime,
Tozer wrote many books, including The Pursuit of God and The
Knowledge of the Holy. Tozer also wrote many essays that were
published in major Christian publications of his day.

How the Church of today can return to its original purpose—

the reverent worship of God

T he church of today suffers from problems stemming from

multiple causes, but the root of these problems is that
the modern church has grown distant from the Word of God.
Una Iglesia conforme al corazón de Dios
A Church After God’s Own Heart
Where there is not a solid foundation, the rest of the structure Miguel Núñez
will not endure.
In his new book, the well-known Spanish pastor Miguel
Nuñez reflects on how unhealthy the contemporary church has
become and shows us how we can contribute to the healing of
the church so that it can reflect its original purpose. We have
a great responsibility to honor the institution that the Lord
called His bride, and the way to do that is to bow in repentance
at the foot of the cross and conform to the standard of His
Word.

Dr. Miguel Núñez is president of the Ministerio Integridad y

Sabiduría and pastor of the International Baptist Church in
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He produces Absolute
Truths in a Relative World for Christian television stations in
the Dominican Republic.
