TECHNOLOGY STANDARD 2- Personal and Professional Use of Technology: The

competent teacher will apply tools for enhancing personal professional growth and

productivity; will use technology in communicating, collaborating, conducting research,

and solving problems and will promote equitable, ethical, and legal use of

computer/technology resources.

1. Fully state the standard in bold text. Then write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and

understanding of that standard—put the standard into your own words.

I think that this standard wants me to recognize the importance of utilizing technology to

enhance my communication, collaborating, and problem-solving in the classroom. By using

technology to improve my professional growth and productivity in the classroom, I will be able

to more effectively make use of my planning and instruction for my classroom. Using

technology for and in the classroom will not only be beneficial to me, but also to my students,

parents, and colleagues to help them recognize how powerful and useful technology can be in

terms of providing a more positive classroom environment and learning strategies.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

The artifact I chose is a model classroom schedule and rationale as to why I planned each

lesson/activity of the day and week at the particular times. It shows how I will be able to plan

my instruction around prescheduled activities set by the school in a way that adequately
incorporates all subject areas at the most effective times throughout the day and week. Through

my use of this program; EXCEL, I am able to demonstrate my knowledge of this piece of

technology and show one way that it can be valuable in presenting information in a clear and

concise way, that is easy for the teacher, colleagues, parents, and students are able to read and

understand.

3. B. If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect upon how

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

While I have not been able to follow and test the classroom schedule I created in my own

classroom, I certainly plan on creating a similar version for future classroom. I think a structured

and organized schedule is good for teachers, students, and parents. It allows teachers to truly

reflect upon when the most appropriate time to conduct certain types of instruction in terms of

keeping the students’ focused. It is also good for both the students and parents to help them view

the classroom environment as a structured and orderly place apt to learning and by making

parents feel more apart of the classroom environment.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

Designing a model classroom schedule will better prepare me to teach and learn in a

diverse society, as it requires me to reflect on how I am going to accommodate and teach all

students equally. By planning the most appropriate times to teach each subject throughout the

day and week, I also had to take into consideration when those students who are pulled out of the
classroom will be able to learn and get the same education of the subjects they miss, rather than

having them miss out on those subjects all together. I believe it is important to take into account

students diverse abilities and learning styles when planning a class schedule so that all students

are able to stay on track and focused, thus getting the same equal education through the same

amount of instructional time, both individually and as a class.
