Description
This activity is a familiarisation task for this part of the test introducing candidates to the
format and typical focus of the questions. The examiner script for this part forms the basis of
a legal vocabulary exercise.
Procedure
1 Tell students they are going to find out some more information about the speaking
test, then look at Part 1 of the test in particular. Hand out copies of the Student’s
Worksheet. Ask students to work in pairs and answer the questions in Exercise 1.
To do this they need to look at the modified sample script for Part 1, without paying
attention to the missing words [this is the focus of Exercise 2]. When they are ready,
elicit the answers (see Key to Student’s Worksheet).
2 Ask students to do Exercise 2. They should complete the script with the missing
‘legal’ words from the box. Again, elicit the answers (see Key to Student’s
Worksheet).
