CREATIVITY AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS AT OLYMPIA

In today's world there are countless opportunities to seize to make a difference. And more than ever there
is a need for people to seize those opportunities that lead to greatness. We need leaders to inspire us to
dream, to participate, and to persevere. Olympia’s Creativity & Leadership workshop offered everyone
the chance to do just that – to take the initiative and make a difference.

The workshop was organized for students and SPM school leavers. More than 60 participants had
participated in the workshop. The topics covered included “Creativity & Innovation”, “How to be more
Innovative Everyday” and “Leadership Skills”.

Mr Foo Jian Wen, the Marketing Coordinator was assigned to conduct the workshop with the assistance
of fellow Coordinators - Mr Suresh, Mr Haja and Mr Surya.

During the “Creativity and Innovation” session, students were given an opportunity to generate creative
ideas, develop new products, build collaborative relationships, recognize opportunities and solve
problems.

The participants also learnt how to be innovative and creative in situations and how to apply the theory
into practical. Participants appreciated that one of the most powerful ways to cultivate creativity and
innovation was to share probing and generative questions about a situation. At the end of the session, the
college rewarded the best performers.

‘There are leaders and there are followers’, as the saying goes, and developing good leadership skills can
create the distinction between the two. Many people believe a strong leader is born and not made. This is
not necessarily the case. As with anything, educating yourself to become a great leader or a person with
superb leadership skills takes time, energy and commitment. A leader is a person who has strong
principles, courage and conviction to a clear vision.

For the Leadership Skills session, the students were grouped into teams and were coached to come up
with innovative ideas through the application of tools, brainstorming and team dynamics. Mr Foo also
explored various leadership skills and he managed to get the students to understand and appreciate their
own inherent skills.

Mr Sundara Pandian, the Principal of Olympia College, Kuantan “To succeed in life, one must possess
creativitiy and leadership skills. Developing a powerful vision, building a strong team and bringing out
the best in those you lead are key facets to experiencing success as a leader in any field. We hope the
event will assist the students in becoming a disciplined, successful, creative and effective leader.”

“At the end of the workshop, the students gave the college very positive feedbacks. Some of the students
even complimented that this event is an “awesome activity”.
