AutoPILOT Pro Flow Control with Pressure Override.

In order to program a flow control loop using PID with a pressure override the following procedure
is to be used to program the AutoPILOT Pro using the Auto Config Program.

1. We will be using 2 PID items (or PID loops) and the High/Low Selection function. One of
the PID loops will be used for the Flow Control and the other PID loop will be used for the
Pressure Control. We will then use the High/Low Selection to determine which PID loop
will be controlling the output.

2. In the AutoConfig software expand Calculations under the Navigation bar, then expand
Table 33 - PID and double click on the first item, PID Calc #1.

3. By default, at least the first 4 process variables are connected to the flow reading for the
first 4 meter runs, and the output value is connected to the analog output. These will all
need to be cleared out except for the first process variable on the first PID loop, since the
flow for the first meter run will be what we will be using for the first PID loop.

4. To do this, put your cursor over the words "Process Variable #2", then do a right click and
click on Clear. This will clear the default connection to meter run 2. Do the same for
Process variables 3 and 4, and for Output Value. Then double click on PID Calc #2 under
Table 33 and clear the connections for the first 4 process variables and the Output Value
for this loop.

5. Now go back to PID Calc #1 and set up the parameters as they are needed and make
sure you Enable the calculation and click on the Apply button every time you make a
change to this screen. The main thing that is different between this PID and the one in
the AutoMate and AutoPILOT is that we now have a Remote and Local Set point. The
Local Set point is used when you are setting up the unit locally, and the Remote Set point
is the one used by the Control Room. You do need to make sure the Control Mode is left
in Remote before you leave the installation site. This is if the Control Room is
downloading Set points remotely or else use the Local Set Point. We also now have the
“Pro Term” (proportional) now instead of the Gain.

6. Once both PID loops are set up, they need to be connected to the High/Low Select
function. Connect the Output Value of PID Calc #1 to Process Variable #1 on the
High/Low Select, and the Output Value of PID Calc #2 to Process Variable #2 on the
High/Low Select.

7. On the Navigation bar, expand Physical Data Points, and then expand Table 21 -
Physical Analog Outputs. Copy the first Analog Output (Analog Output #1) and paste it to
the “Output Value” in Table 35 – High/ Low Selection.

8. Under Table 35 – High/Low Selection the following menus need to be entered.

a. Calculation = Enabled
b. Mode = High Select
c. Num High/Low Inputs = 2

9. The last step here is to decide which pressure input will be controlling the Flow Control.
As an example we are using the “Static Pressure” from the first run to control the flow.
The next step will be to go to Table 38 - Differential Pressure Flow (DP Flow Calc # 1)
and copy the Static Pressure and paste it to Table 33 – PID Calc # 2 under Process
Variable # 1.

10. This completes the programming of a Flow control with Pressure Override.
