CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Schering-Plough/Merck, Summit, NJ (Burns & Roe Services Corp., In Control, & MBO
) (2001-2010)
A global pharmaceutical company specializing in skin care, cholesterol, and alle
rgy over-the-counter product, ranking among the top 20 pharmaceutical companies
ranked by sales.
Senior Project Engineer
Develop an 8-year strategic program for the replacement, upgrade and/or improvem
ent of the site's utilities system designs. These include steam/condensate distr
ibution, domestic water, and fire water, boiler feed, water purification, HVAC,
hydronic heating, compressed air and wastewater treatment systems. The site's o
perational history included shutdowns, outages, corrosion issues, low chiller CO
P's, boiler inefficiency, water hammer, effluent pH excursions and built-in poor
maintainability by design. System issues had potential FDA /other regulatory im
pact, demonstrating a need for a program of site wellness. Audits and trending v
ia BAS played a key role in diagnosing many system problems and changes in BAS c
ontrol methodology itself, as follows:
* Upgrade domestic water, fire water, and steam -condensate systems, eliminating
water-hammer, pressure deficiencies, surging, internal flashing, manhole steami
ng and corrosion. ($0.8 million annual energy savings)
* Up-date obsolete boiler burner management & combustion-feed water controls, co
nvert make-up water to RO technology, automate blow-down controls, and convert s
oftener & polisher vessel metallurgy for better corrosion resistance. ($0.75 mi
llion annual energy savings)
* Stabilize primary steam to eliminate boiler house load swings, provide emergen
cy steam, provide redundant heating hot water heat-exchange, and adequate domest
ic water pressure to major research buildings and throughout site.
* Upgrade HVAC systems; modify chillers, cooling and heating coils, and hydronic
HHW heat exchange systems and controls.
* Upgrade or modify wastewater treatment system to eliminate an ongoing record o
f violations for waste effluents not generated by Schering, Also, extend life eq
ualization basin with new elastomeric coating.
* Upgrade airport hanger roof with FM-approved design concept, stress analysis,
truss materials tests, and upgraded superstructure to meet current snow and wind
load requirements.
* Upgrade oil free compressed air system scroll and rotary tooth designs, and re
configure plant air systems.
* Prepare feasibility study of dedicated utilities for one building for potentia
l site sub-division scenario, with special recommendation for new parking garage
, to improve real estate marketability. (Implemented 2005).
Bergmann & Associates, Dover, NJ / Rochester, NY (2000-2001)
Project Engineer/Manager
Manage and direct activities of a multi-disciplined staff of six engineers and d
esigners in the design of HVAC systems on several HVAC projects in the health ca
re, research lab, hospital, and state correctional facility sectors, which inclu
ded building loads, air handlers, fan coils, chillers, and exhaust systems. Dut
ies also included marketing activities in the NJ pharmaceutical business sector.

Pfizer Inc., Parsippany, NJ (1999-2000)

Contract Project Management Assignment
Redesign and reconfiguration of the main office area HVAC, cooling tower and chi
ller projects, electrical load balancing ,creation of new blister packaging suit
es, high-speed roll-up doors, and coordination of construction code permits with
Town of Parsippany construction officials.

Wyeth Ayerst/Lederle Labs., Pearl River, NY (1996-1999)

Project Manager for Infrastructure Department
Capital projects included reconfiguration of the primary and secondary boiler bo
iler feed water softeners, to include a 440-gpm RO boiler system, and renovation
of (20) 300' segments of underground steam distribution system. (Annual cost sa
vings of $500 K/yr.) Projects included stability room consolidation, x-ray fluo
rescence spectrometer, and freight elevator renovation. Environmental projects
included design and construction of facility's on-site landfill cap in 1997, rem
oval and remediation of gas tanks, cross-connection remediation, and leachate tr
ansfer system.
Foster Wheeler Corporation, Clinton, N.J. (1991-1995)
Senior Project /Senior Equipment Engineer
Led multi-disciplined project teams and had equipment selection/ specification r
esponsibilities on Eli Lilly pharmaceutical, and several API-related SAMAREC, Ma
raven, CITGO, Shell, Chevron, and ISLA refinery projects. Received letter of com
mendation from Eli Lilly for achieving $1M in capital process system cost saving
s in process improvements through pump retrofits, materials optimization, and VF
D applications. Featured speaker on "High Purity Water" for Foster Wheeler's "P
harma" Division.
ISP/GAF Corporation, Wayne, N.J. (1989-1991)
Project Manager
Contributed to dramatic improvement of utility efficiency by upgrading the instr
ument air and boiler feedwater systems, and implementing rail car unloading and
high purity water projects. Upgraded instrument/plant air system to high-pressur
e system, resulting in $1 million annual savings. Upgraded steam-generating syst
em capability by consolidating multiple deaerators into one re-engineered unit,
for annual savings of $1 million in avoided shutdowns. Addressed potential FDA r
egulatory concerns with ultrafiltration of process feedwater.
