Part A
1. ‘Analyzing the growth and implications of knowledge work and emotional labour
underscores a number of broader developments and organizational behaviour
issues.’ Discuss.
2. The Chief Executive Officer of a large chain of hotels in western Europe has
invited you, as a human resource specialist, to address her and her senior managers
in the organization on ‘The role of organizational behaviour in maximizing employee
efficiency and customer satisfaction’. Write a convincing report, using relevant
examples to support your arguments. Aim your presentation at senior managers who
are objective and very profit-conscious.
4. After three months on the job, Rebecca has experienced several emotional
episodes ranging from frustration to joy towards the work she is assigned. Drawing
on your knowledge of the concept of a psychological contract, account for these
emotions and explain how they affect Rebecca’s level of job satisfaction.
6. Explain the ‘critical approach’ to organization study. Define and explain how
gender, race, ethnicity, class and disability can be relevant to an understanding of
organizational behaviour.

the organization. Drawing on your knowledge of organizational design, explain what
type of structure best works with different business strategies.
9. Explain how you would apply the situational leadership model (SLM) in the
workplace. What would you say to sceptical supervisors and managers that there is
no difference between a manager and a leader?
10. Describe the role of communications in work organizations. Explain why men and
women are sometimes frustrated with each other’s communication behaviour.
12. Explain French and Raven’s and Foucault’s conception of power. Does
Foucault’s conception of self-regulation provide a better explanation of the power of
managers than French and Raven’s typology does?
