Title XIS ZRAM - Set-up/Modification Procedures
Type Information Procedure
System/Service XIS
Keywords ZRAM - Zero volatile Random Access Memory, XIS/UIS SITE, PC-0A, PC-0B

1. INTRODUCTION
Purpose of this OPINFO / Overview
This OPINFO gives the recommended procedures for ZRAM setting on one or more XIS unit/s in a site. The
site can be a mixed (XIS/UIS systems) one also. The Zram setting is essential for One-For-N mechanism of
XIS to work properly. The One-For-N mechanism deals with switchover mechanism of an failed XIS unit to
back-up unit and to release the back-up unit when the actual unit was restored.
Intended audience

GNMC; RSO

2. PLEASE NOTE ...

The procedure for ZRAM setting has to be used in the following cases:
a) When a new site is configured with a set of XIS/UIS units.
b) When there is a addition/deletion of XIS/UIS units in the site.
c) When there is an unwanted ZRAM is online in the site/unit(s).

This procedure has to be adopted even if the ZRAM setting has to be changed/modified for one of
the XIS/UIS units.

The XIS/UIS unit will show the EXCEPTION 410A 000X (where X is the XIS/UIS unit Number) during
unit reset, indicating 'Inconsistency in Zram configuration'.

In the mixed site, the back-up unit must have the UIS Flash product loaded when not in use by the
XIS.

3. PROCEDURE:

3.1 ZRAM set-up procedure:

The ZRAM set-up procedure for a site/unit through the XIS-PC is as follows:

3.1.1. ZRAM (ISM)

The system parameters include information such as PC and printer identification, E-link address, unit
switchover priority etc. The parameters can be changed using the PC ZRAM editor menu. The contents
of the RAM can be displayed by the console command /ZRAM 1.
3.1.2. Zram File Specification:

The system parameters are stored in the /fs/zram Sub Directory. The system parameter file name is as
follows: ZRAM-XXXN.gZ, Where XXX = IATA Locator Code Ex. LON
N = Sequence Number Ex .1, Z = XIS Group Number Prefixed By Character g

Note: Normally g is in lower case. The separation between ZRAM and locator code may be hyphen or
underscore. ZRAM may be prefixed by N or X.

3.1.5. PARAMETERS CONFIGURATION : Refer to Figure 4 above.

(a) System Parameters

The configuration fields to be filled for the XIS system parameters are:

Unit Address: This is the E-Link address of the W1657 online unit (0, 1…7).

Site Name : The site name field consists of four alpha-numeric characters, e.g. LON1.

OFN Group: This is the group number in the range 1-8. As most Sites have one group
this is normally set to 1.

Online Units : This represents the number of online UIS/XIS units within the OFN group.

Printer
Main The E-Link address of the PC to which the printer is connected.
Alternate The E-Link address of the backup PC. When there is only one PC connected the address of
the alternate PC is set to that of the main.
Asynch
This is set to Y or N. When Y (Yes) is selected all printer reports will go to the asynchronous console if
connected. If N (No) is selected the reports will go the PC console spooler. The normal selection is N
(No).

Back-Up Unit
This is the address of the backup unit of the OFN group (Enter as 09).

Fileserver
Main This field requires the E-Link address of the main disk to be accessed during the local load.
Alt This field requires the E Link address of the alternate disk to be accessed during the local load.

(b) W1657 Unit Parameters

V bus
This is the vertical bus position of an A CPU of a group. The parameters individual to each A CPU of a
group must be entered under the relevant vertical bus position. The vertical bus positions correspond to
the numbering found on the manual control panel.

HLD
This is the High Level Designator of each A CPU of a system. Though not used, the HLD for the XIS/UIS
is a mandatory field in the ZRAM.

Unit Address
This is the E-link address of an A CPU in the range 0-7. It also refers to the CDIR to be read during a
local load. The CDIR is located under the units E-Link address.

XIS
Set to Y (Yes) for an XIS unit. Could be set to N (No) in a mixed system n(No) = UIS.

1/N Priority
This specifies the switchover priority of an A CPU of a group. The range is 1-8. with 8 being the highest
priority. The highest priority is given to the unit which provides the X.25 connections.

LC
The LC fields specify the unit stuffing. Unit stuffing specifies which Line Controller boards will be
checked during the self test. The boards must be physically present in the board cage. If there is an
inconsistency a report will be sent to the printer. The fields are filled with a Y or an N.
When a Y (Yes) is set the board must be present, if an N (No is set the board need not be present.

3.1.6. ZRAM config Transmission

Transfer the parameters to the ZRAM of all units in a group including the backup unit from the
transmission screen. To display the transmission screen, from the main menu press F3.
ZRAM system parameters can be send selectively to one or more units without disturbing the others.
The actions from this screen are:

To Press
Start the transmission F3
Select the Units F4 (use the cursor up/down arrow keys to move to different units
and then press F1)
Exit the ZRAM Utility F10 (May have to press F10 more than once)

The prompt "zram parameters will not be sent to this unit" is displayed for each unit. Each unit can be
selected to receive parameters. XIS unit must be in stable state(26 or 4) to accept the Zram
configuration. The Zram can be transmitted to the selected units by pressing F3. During Transmission a
bar is displayed to show the percentage of the data transmitted to the unit. If a unit is down or the Elink
connection fails, the message 'FAILED' will be displayed besides the unit number, and in this case,
correct the connection failure and re-transmit the data.

Note: To make any Zram change take effect, each unit the parameters were sent to, must be reset.
Use /WD console command or on a unit activation of configuration from XNMS.

3.1.7. ZRAM for Mixed UIS/XIS Site:

The XIS and UIS units share the same back up unit and operate using the same One-For-N messages
and commands. XIS and UIS units can be mixed in any combination in the One-For-N scheme. The UIS
units require the FLASH.0285(or higher) to support mixed systems. The correct type of software is
loaded by the contents of the unit's CDIR file from the PC file server.
