A501 Principles of Accounting This is a basic course and deals with functional of bookkeeping and accounting. The course covers the basic accounting concepts, doubleentry system of book-keeping, recording of transaction, preparation of trial balance, treatment of adjustment entries, preparation of financial statements, accounting for assets and liabilities, accounting system and accounting practices in different types of organization. A502 Management Accounting The course is a sequence to A501 and deals with tools and techniques of internal use of accounting for management decision viz., analysis and interpretation of financial statements, concept of cost element, pricing of cost and cost centers, cost classification, methods of costing and break-even analysis, accounting treatment of price-level changes,

budgeting and budgetary control and other uses of accounting information. A601 Financial Accounting This course provides an in-depth analysis and interpretation of financial statements of various types of business and other organizations viz. private firms, companies, railways and other utility services as well as designing appropriate accounting system for generation of correct accounting information for management control. A602 Cost Accounting and Budgetary Control This is an advanced course dealing with the techniques of costing and the use of cost information for managerial planning and control. It includes costing of material, labour and overhead, system of job-order costing, process costing, joint product and by-product costing, budgetary control, various phases of preparation of budget, techniques used and procedures involved in budgetary control.

A603 Auditing and Taxation The course deals with principles of auditing, auditors' duties and responsibilities, basic auditing techniques, verification and valuation of assets and liabilities, internal checks, internal control and auditor's reports and certificates. It also covers general principles of taxation, tax authorities, basis of tax computation of total income and taxable income assessment of tax, self assessment, return of income, deductions, advance payment of tax and appeal procedures, accounting for income tax and impact of income tax on business. Various techniques of effective communication through business letters, reports and other media from an integral part of the course. F407 Portfolio Management The course covers concepts and techniques of portfolio management; topics include: establishing portfolio objectives; evaluating portfolio performance; examining the pattern of changes in valuation of portfolio; and projecting and forecasting trends.

F408 Banking & Insurance Part I examines the banking systems of Bangladesh, the structure and operation of Bangladesh Bank and its policy and procedures used in controlling the money supply and banking system. Part II explores the nature of risks faced by individuals, groups, organizations, and society as a whole and the availability and selection of insurance coverage. It also examines institutions/organizations and operation of insurance companies/corporation in Bangladesh. F501 Financial Management This course covers the nature and scope of financial management, the objectives of financial management and need for management of working as well as fixed capital, tools for quantitative analysis of prior financial position, techniques of forecasting, the need for funds, techniques of capital budgeting and related concepts, financial structure and profit distribution policy. F601 Capital Budgeting and Investment Analysis The course designed to study the role of investment analysis and program, techniques of forecasting market demand, estimation of resource requirements, factor costs, cost of capital, concept of time preference, shadow price, budget of income and expenditures, cash flow direction, commercial and national profitability, their divergence and implications, project evaluation, rate of present worth, benefit cost analysis, risk and uncertainty, analysis of selected investment decisions and financial policies. F602 Financial Institutions The course is a detailed study of money and capital markets with special emphasis on the study of institutions supplying funds of various categories. Focus will be on the financial institutions, with a view to acquaint the students with potential source of funds of various types, fund utilization and the terms and conditions under which institutions make funds available. It deals with the management of funds of major financial intermediaries like commercial banks, BSB, ICB and other including regional financial institutions like World Bank, IMF, ADB etc. Stock Markets, ICB and other secondary markets are extensively covered. F603 Management of Banks and Development Financial Institutions The course deals with money and capital markets with special emphasis on the study of institutions supplying funds. Focus is on the financial institution with emphasis on potential sources of funds, fund utilization, terms and condition under which institutions make funds available, the management of funds of major financial intermediaries

like commercial banks. BSB and have international financial institutions. F604 International Financial Management This course deals with the nature of international business, financial environment and their implication for the firm. Source of mechanism and instruments of international finance are discussed. Import financing is highlighted. It also covers exchange rates and policy transactions in exchange spot forward exchanges and swap operations, instruments of international payment, interrelationship in the balance of payment and balance of payment disequilibrium. The course also deals with international liquidity and the new international economic order, international financial markets, international agencies and institutions and international monetary system. F605 Project Management This course deals with project identification, preparation, appraisal, management of implementation and post-project evaluation. Basic techniques like network analysis, organization and control aspects of project implementation in relation to resources, time scale and information processing are emphasized. Case studies of major projects (on-going as well as completed) are covered.

Topics include: project management concepts; process of project identification, preparation, appraisal, selection, implementation and monitoring of implementation and post-project evaluation. The techniques like network analysis, resource loading and leveling are examined. Use of computer in Project Management is particularly examined. G501 Micro Economics The purpose of microeconomics is to develop the students' skill in the systematic analysis of the economic aspects of business decisions and to acquaint them with some relevant analytical methods and concepts. The course covers concepts related to analysis of market as seen by producers and consumers and relate them to production pattern, distribution of income and allocation of resource in the context of a market economy. G502 Macro Economics and Policy The course starts with concepts of national income accounting, investigates economic aggregates and leads to development of forecasts for business condition analysis. G601 Socio-Economic Study of Bangladesh The course provides an outline of the economy of Bangladesh and its changing socio-economic environment. It deals with various aspects inclusive of population, labour, urbanization, agricultural development, industrial growth and provision of social and physical infrastructure. The course also includes discussion on plan and planning in Bangladesh including the legal aspects affecting growth and development in Bangladesh. Pre-requisites: Micro, Macro. G602 Industrial Economics The course is designed to study economics of industrial organization,

industrial location, size and integration, costs and finance, concentration, technological change and related aspects of industry. It will further investigate into the aspects of industrial efficiency with respect to size, forms of management product mix, use of capital, labour and inputs. The role of public and its influence are also discussed. Pre-requisites: Micro, Macro, and Math. Stat. G603 Labour Economics The course deals with the labour as a factor of production. On doing so, the supply of and the demand for labour are investigated in depth. The course examines various wage theories and practices of wage determination as well as causes and effects of wage changes and employment. The course is designed to deal with determination of minimum wages, relationship of wages to productivity, inflation and unemployment in the economy. The course examines the sectoral theory in relation to productive systems, the social structure of business and industry in respect of social satisfaction, industrialization and social change. G604 Energy Economics The course deals with energy analysis as a policy tool, critical energy issues in the developed and developing economies and management of the renewable and non-renewable energy resources. G605 Utility Economics and Management The course is designed to look into the existing transport system and special characteristics of rail, road, water, ocean and air transportation methods. The techniques of transport assessment with particular emphasis on determinants of demand, including trip generation, distribution, model split are integral parts of the course. Prerequisites: Micro, Macro, Mgt. G606 Transport Economics and Management The course examines the characteristics of public utilities in terms of services to consumer, contribution to the economy and its special features. Further the economic basis for regulation in terms of market structure, cost consideration, demand factors are discussed. The electric power industry, the natural gas industry and water and sewerage services are also discussed. Pre-requisites: Micro, Macro, Mgt. G607 Development and Policy Economy The course is designed to provide and exposure to the theories and process of economic development. The relationship between social, cultural, educational, technological and economic development are explored. It also deals with the characteristic features of developing

countries including resource constraints, problems of mobilizing administrative experience, dependence on developed countries and the like. The role of government and public sector as catalyst is focused with special reference to the experience in developing countries like Bangladesh. Pre-requisites: Micro, Macro, Math., Stat. G608 Governance and Markets The course deals with public enterprises as a tool of national economic and management development, its objectives, organization, control mechanism, accountability, measurement of efficiency, compatibility with private enterprise and other related aspects. Pre-requisites: Micro, Macro. Mgt. G609 International Financial System and Flows The course deals with international monetary relations since World War II including the role of IMF, exchange rate, convertibility, capital flows and related international economic organizations. G610 International Trade Structure and Relations The course deals with the structure of international trade in commodities and services, regulations, protection, regionalization and liberalization and their impact on LDCs. The course goes on to discuss the role of UNCTAD, GATT, WTO and related bodies in this context. G611 International Economic Order The course deals with the changes in world economic system since World War II and goes on to discuss new international economic order as well as recent conceptualization of new world order under the presence of globalization of world economy.

J501 Analysis of Human and Organizational Behavior The course deals with individual and group behaviour models in the context of different organizations and social systems. It deals with the basic concepts of motivation, perception, learning and analysis of human behaviour, individual differences and job satisfaction attitude changes, group process, team work, role theory, power and authority along with the analysis of small group behaviour, group dynamics, leadership, decision, development of organizations and the influence of groups. J502 Human Resource Management This course deals with management of human resources in organization, viz, the basic functions of human resource management, sources of personnel, methods of selection, recruitment, developing and motivating the work force, procedures of primary record-keeping, compensation, salary and wage administration, promotion, training appraisal, health safety, moral discipline, employee benefits etc. J601 Manpower Planning and Personnel Policy This course id designed to equip the students with the techniques of developing personnel policy and implementation. It includes a detailed study of environmental trend analysis, manpower planning models, manpower needs and personnel information system to forecast manpower needs and considerations of some indicators of manpower effectiveness. Policy issues considered include work force composition, wage and salary administration in the context of developing countries. J602 Industrial Relations The course deals with worker-employer conflicts, origin of development of trade union, trade unionism in the subcontinent, theories of union, process of collective bargaining, industrial dispute, grievance handling, strike and lockout, arbitration and labour laws. These are discussed in the context of socio-political and economic situation in Bangladesh. Labour Laws of Bangladesh are to be studied in the course. J603 Industrial Relations in a Global Economy The objective of the course is to develop a critical appreciation of the role of industrial relations in a global economic environment. The topics that will be covered are; scope of adjustments and adaptations in labour management, trade union and politics, evolution of collective bargaining, relevant legislative framework and practice of negotiation. Practical case situations will be examined using game theory. J604 Organizations and Conflict Management The strategies and methods of managing conflict will be studied against social structures. Management of group and inter group

processes will be covered from an organizational context. It will also explores the use of power and politics in the management processes and analyze the decision making process of different organizations.

K412 Applied Database Management The course is designed to cover objectives and methods of database management; Topics include: objectives of database management; data models; elementary database design; fourth generation programming languages; data integrity, security, and privacy. K501 Mathematics for Decisions The course includes elements of algebra, number fields, linear and non-linear inequalities, functions sets analytical geometry, logarithm limit, differential and integral calculus, matrix and linear programming. The purpose of the course is to help the students learn mathematical tools, which are used in management studies. K502 Business Statistics The course is designed to equip the students with statistical tools and concepts to be used in the business decision processes. Methods of descriptive and Inferential statistics are covered that include measures of central tendency and dispersion, probability distributions, hypothesis testing and their application in the management decision process, testing hypothesis, correlation and regression analysis, and basics of non-parametric statistics. Survey methods, sample design and sources of business statistics in Bangladesh are also given. K503 Computer Programming and Applications The course acquaints students with the role and uses of computer in decision processes. The basics of computer hardware and software are introduced with reference to evolution from abacus to notebooks. A procedural language is used to solve problems from business situations. Emphasis is given on database management with reference to various packages. K601 Advanced Computer Programming and Data Processing This course is designed to train the students in the modern techniques of electronic data processing (EDP) and computer programming in FORTRAN and other languages including skill in writing their own programs for solving decision problem in different functional areas as well as various package programs. K602 System Analysis and Design The course is designed to train the students in the methodology and techniques of system analysis including critical path methods, search techniques, waiting lines, linear programming, dynamic programming and simulation experiments. Project work includes design and development of systems.

K603 Operations Research The course is designed to train the students in analytical, experimental and quantitative approaches to solution of business problems. Emphasis is placed upon development of techniques, which enable decision makers to arrive at optimum solutions. Students develop skill in formulating and solving mathematical models dealing with inventory, waiting lines, game theory, linear programming, transportation, dynamic programming simulation and other decision tools. K604 Management Information Systems The course introduces concepts of information system as used in management of organizations. It diagnoses and identifies different hierarchies of management to develop information and control systems. The theories of organization structure and management control are analyzed as well as the methods of database management, computer hardware and peripherals such as communications and networking. Information models of various types from data processing environment to decision support systems to knowledge-based systems are introduced.

M501 Marketing Management Marketing management course is designed to present an integrated approach to marketing from a managerial point of view. Economic quantitative and behavioural concepts are used in analyzing and developing a framework for decision-making leading to formulation of an organization's goals and implementation of its marketing program. The course includes identification of market structure, analysis of consumer behaviour, factors affecting the efficiency of marketing and the process of planning marketing operations. M601 Marketing Research This course is designed to train the students in using the tools and techniques for developing an analytical framework of marketing, developing solutions to marketing problems, formulations of marketing strategy, introductions to research techniques in marketing, review of sources of marketing information, collection, tabulation, analysis and interpretation of marketing information. M602 Consumer Behaviour This course explores the consumption process and the factors affecting the process. It also studies the individual consumer behaviour as well as the behaviour influenced by group dynamics. The topics also include issues like perception, peer pressure, opinion leader formation etc. M603 Marketing Communication The course deals with theories and practices of advertising sales management, promotion and public relation as they relate to overall marketing program and marketing information systems. M604 International Marketing The course deals with conceptual framework for analysis of the environment of international market, review of international trade theory, analysis of balance of payment position and foreign currency market, export market in Bangladesh context. International joint ventures, licensing and leasing arrangements, patents and copyrights, international trade agreements and regional trade grouping, generalized system of preferences, packaging, shipping and financing practices in the international market. M605 Physical Distribution Management The course deals with certain aspect of traffic management and physical distribution management involved in getting goods and services from production to user including packaging, materials handling, inventory control and fixed facility location, traffic organization, carrier selection, determination of rates, classification and control.

M606 Marketing of Social Products The course deals with the concept of social product market. It discusses theoretical issues involved in market identification, demand estimation, development of market for social product, key instrumental variable in market communication, delivery, distribution as well as planning and organizing market for social product. M607 Advertising and Sales Management The course deals with different aspects of advertisement as well as diversified dimensions of sales management. It gives guidelines for copy writing, media choice, advertisement evaluation and etc. On the other hand, it also emphasizes on prospecting, sales personnel management, techniques to improve sales and other related matters.

This covers identification and identification and definition of major problem areas within these functions and development of appropriate concepts and decision processes for dealing with these problems. Main emphasis is given on forecasting quality control and inventory control, utilizing the operations research, industrial engineering and system approach. P601 Advanced Production Management The course is structured in a way that the students become familiar with advanced quantitative analysis tools of production management. The emphasis is given on modern methods of production including JIT, TQM and Re-engineering. Other topics include methods of forecasting and production sequencing. P602 Materials Management This advanced level course is designed to examine the objectives, principles and methods in management materials, planning of the requirements of purchasing, inventory control, receiving stores, materials handling and materials recording system. P603 Management of Technology The course distinguishes between science and technology for operational and policy implications and studies the aspects of choice of technique, technology and technical change. It deals with the problems

of technology transfer, the role of transitional companies, monopoly, packaging and pricing of technology. The problems of absorption and diffusion of technology are also covered with the help of case studies. The use of appropriate technology and technology for basic needs etc. are also covered.

W604 Comparative Management Systems The course deals with analysis of administration variables in organization of differing ownership, purpose and operation functioning in differing economic, socio-cultural, political, technological and moral environments. W605 Social Sector Management The course is designed to discuss the input, process and output of health and education service delivery system for efficiency and effectiveness in the national and developing country context. W606 Organizational Decision Making Examination of the processes in organization decision-making: the state of theory; research and applications for the practising manager. Students also develop the proactive skills in problem solving and decision-making. Z604 Management of Co-operatives The course is designed to discuss the history and characteristic of cooperatives in selected countries including Bangladesh. The problems and performance of co-operatives in finance, management, organization, and marketing would be incorporated through project and case study approach. Z605 Small Business Management The course aims at providing knowledge of the requisites for successful small business management. The overall objective of the course is to develop the students' understanding of the economic, social and political environment within which the small business functions and to provide him with knowledge on how to avoid business failure and build up a highly profitable and growing enterprise. The course contains topics on role and characteristics of small business, planning and organizing procedure and factors, business strategy, organization structure, legal aspects, production, marketing and financial management and information and control system. The course is designed to orient the student on the basic theoretical issues and practical aspects of small business and its development process. Z606 Entrepreneurship Development The objective of the course is to prepare students for the possibility of starting their own entrepreneurial ventures. The course includes topics on theories and characteristics of Entrepreneurship, environmental conditions, scanning and evaluation of investment opportunities, forms of business ownership, government regulations sources and procedure of assistance, market study of production process, organization and staff planning, project appraisal and management information system. The emphasis of the course is on improving the skills of the innovative individuals who identifies a market opportunity and mobilizes factors of production. Lecture method of teaching is supplemented by case studies, organization visits and guest lectures. Z607 Venture Development The course aims at providing a theoretical framework for venture development and relates research works to the process and outcome of venture development so that the students can understand requirements for successful venture development.
