Clearing IE and Java Temp Files

Introduction
This document has been written as a guide to clearing (deleting) Internet Explorer and SUN Java temporary files on Windows systems. This should be performed from an Administrator account on every workstation that runs LightSpeed. Depending on the version of Windows the workstation has, two different folders need to have their contents cleared. This operation needs to be performed for every user profile directory on every workstation.

How to Clear Internet Explorer Cache


1. Log into the workstation with an administrator account (domain or local). You must log in with an administrative account for permission to access other user profiles. 2. Open My Computer and go to Tools > Folder Options at the top of the window. Switch to the View tab and make the following changes: a. Hidden files and folders: Change this to Show hidden files, folders, and drives b. Hide protected operating system files (Recommended): Uncheck this box (Vista and Windows 7 only) 3. Open up the systems C: drive. 4. If the workstation is running Windows XP, go into the Documents and Settings folder. If its Vista or Last Updated 2/2/10 Page 3 of 4

Windows 7, go into the Users folder. 5. A list of user profile directories will be displayed. A directory will exist for every user that has ever logged into the machine. The following steps will need to be repeated for all user profiles that access LightSpeed. 6. If running Windows XP, navigate to Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5. If running Vista or Windows 7, navigate to AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 (the Temporary Internet Files and Content.IE5 folders will be hidden in Vista and Windows 7 unless step 2b was followed). 7. Highlight all files and folders (CTRL + A) and press Delete. Click Yes or Yes to All if prompted to delete these files. These are only temporary files and can safely be deleted. 8. As noted above, repeats 6 and 7 for every user profile that is going to access LightSpeed.

How to Clear SUN Java Cache
