2. Create a Typographic System: An assignment expressing the principles of typography in a communication context. Address the issues of informational hierarchies through visual form and structure as well as the editorial and expressive potentials of typography. Example: Design a multi-page publication (eg: book layout) that expresses the editorial through typographic emphasis; or design a multi-page marketing publication (brochure of at least 6 spreads plus front and back cover or tri-fold brochure series) that can be constructed as a full size comprehensive(s) inserted into the portfolio. Deliverable would be packaged InDesign file including layout, all linked files (mechanically ready), fonts, and press ready pdf file. Student should have at the end of the module a full size comprehensive supplied in high-quality color printable paper folded and trimmed, compatible with student's individual portfolio. or 3. Create an Information System: An assignment emphasizing the understanding, structuring, and clear visual presentation of information-rich content such as: a series of maps depicting transportation systems or historical information; or a series of guides, diagrams, instructions, timelines, charts, graphs, or tables reflecting economic and environmental issues. Cover issues of information design including accessibility, transparency, credibility (using actual current data), quantity, density, and language independence. Example: Design a world map depicting human migration from 7 million bc to the 18th century ad. Compliment this information with the spread of major religions, dynasties and cultures, or economic impact. Deliverables would be final electronic files executed in Illustrator plus high-quality color printouts. or 4. Create a Poster Series Solving a Communications Problem: An assignment that emphasizes the understanding of visual relationships and how to use them to create visual impact and clarity while solving a communications problems such as promoting an exhibition, promoting a product or a line of products, communicating society's impact on the environment. Special attention should be given to refining the students perceptual abilities, hand skills, and the integration of various media. Deliverable would be packaged InDesign files including layout, all linked files (mechanically ready), fonts, and press ready pdf files plus high-quality color printouts.
Final Grade High Pass: 10 or 11, Pass: 8 or 9, Low Pass 7, Fail: 6 or less
Attendance
Students
are
expected
to
attend
classes
regularly
and
in
accordance
with
Center
policies.
Students
can
miss
equivalent
of
one
day
or
three
evenings
without
penalty.
On
the
second
day,
or
fourth
evening,
absent
students
will
receive
a
0
for
their
attendance
grade
and
will
fail
the
module
automatically.
Any
student
arriving
late
to
class
must
sign
in
at
the
front
desk.
Tardies
If
a
full-time
student
is
over
an
hour
late,
(s)he
will
be
marked
absent.
If
a
part-time
student
is
over
a
half
hour
late
on
weeknights
or
an
hour
late
on
Saturdays,
(s)he
will
be
marked
absent.
Three
tardies
in
one
module
results
in
the
student
being
marked
absent
for
the
day
they
arrive
late
the
third
time.
