BACKGROUND
The word wine comes from the latin vinum, akin similarly to greek oinos, which means grape wine and in a larger sense, fermented juice of other fruits. It is a product of the earth-leterrior, as the French say, and of the sun, but it also a work of art, for is made by man is often a matter of erudite judgement. The finest wines are partly the result of technical know how and great vinicultural improvements. Never before have there been so many good wines on earth. The present is the golden age of wine. Fruiting season is from mid-may to mid-june decouse dry weather is desirable during its flowering and fruiting periods. The fruit flavor saries from acid to fairly sweet but is usually astringent, so they may be eaten raw or madeinto tarts, sauses & jams, If soaked in salt water or pricked and rubbed with a cittle salt & letting it stand for an hour, the astringent fruits may be improved in patability. Duhat Wine industry is a newly-introduced business in te Province of Pangasinan. Such business is practiced in Laguit Padilla, Bugallon and Malimpin, Dasol, Pangasinan. The main Ingredients of Duhat Wine are slack pulm (Duhat Fruits), white

CHAPTER II
Review of related literature and studies This chapter discussed pieces of literature and studies in order to find better background for the subject of their study and to understand better the problem that maybe encountered which we are trying to prove these materials unit provide the researchers deeper unsight, knowledge ideas and relevant information that will enrich the study.

RELATED LITERATURE
Duhat or Java Pulm in restricted to areas with minimum temperatures above 1.7 C (35 F) (Broschat & Mierow 1991) thrives in low wet areas as well higher well-drained land including loam, sand or oolitic limestone(Norton 1987). Duhat is observed most often in big cypress national preserve on regularly in undated but relatively high spot in cypress strands and sawgrass marshes(Direveretal 1986) does well in its retive range in areas with as much as 1,000 cm (400 in) of annual rainful and with standprolonged flooding (Norton 1987) common in the day zone of its native in all forms of forest but (Dssanayte \7 forsberf 1981). Resistant to coastal high winds but not to heavy salt spray and overwash(Menniager 1964). Does not do well in highly

saline or sodic, soils(Gill and Abrol 1991). Procedure fruit in 56 years when grown from seeds. (Burkil 1935). Flowers year-round (wunderlin 1982) but mostly in the spring. Seeds disjursed by birds and mammals, including and wild hogs. Dispersed in Hawaii primarily by myna birds (Norton 1987). Used in fruit preserves but fruit considered rarely worth eating by some (Menninger 1964) closely related to S-Aromaticom (L) merr the dried flower buos of which from the spices known as Cloxes (willis 1973) Introduced into flurida for anament and edible fruit by the us. Department of Agriculture, with seeds from the Philippines 1911 and 1920 and from Java and Zanzibar in 1912 (Poplnoe 1939 long recommended as a shade tree but considered messy (Broschat and Meerolo 1991) noted as naturalized in southern Floreda by 1982 (Wunderlin). Now one of the more rapidly spreading non-native species forming dence canopies that shade out young native trees in wet pimelands, nammocks and well-drained upjands (Duexer et, al 1986) reported from it natural areas in Pinellas lee collier, pade, pulm beach and martin countries (EPPC 1996) naturalized on all lands of Hawaii, where it excludes native as well as introduced plants, such as chimus teleben the folius (Wagner et, al 1990). The most of wines of the world are product of the alcoholic fermentation of grapes and other fruits or from berriers and are designated by the name of the fruit, like Duhat (Java Plum) wine.

RELATED STUDIES
The significance of small and medium scale enterprises (SME) is acknowledge worldwide SME from the ranguard of the modern enterprice sector and present the propelling force of economic modernization and growth in developing economies. But it is imperative to examine their efficiency levels in order to formulate appropriate policies for the development of SME. In this study, the level of technical efficiency of SME in Tanzania has been examined using a Cobb Douglas stochastic fronties production function the findings indicate that high levels of technical effeceincy which reduced their potential output levels significantly, characterize the Tanzanian SME. Assisting this from to improve their technical efficiency through redeguate supply of inputs, market and credit facilities and understaking extensive infrastructurial development and training could be important measures. Braganza et al., conducted a case study of on the economic status and prospects of small scale interprises in selected barangays in Lingayen Pangasinan the researchers conducted small scale interprises in the selected brgys. are very competitive and well manage by the ownerdue to the long years of exsistance of the enterprises have a limited investment with regards to

building machinery, supplies and materials due to the small production and limited capital for the business. The researchers recommented that local government intervention is needed like legal protection to eliminate the competition in fringement of patent by competitions. The government institution should be the adrocators of conducting of numerous yet free simenars and other educational program regarding business management to kept a breast with latest development and technology proper utilization is needed to increase their income.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Owing to clear cut or definition of the study a conceptual framework must be included. In this regard, the researchers conceptualized the ideas that finding the respondents profit, economic status of Duhat wine workers, problems encountered and the degree of seriousness should be the focused, so that it can identify the dependent and independent variables. On the other hand, economic status should be the dependent variable. A paradigm of the relationships between the dependent variables is shown in figure 1.

Independent variable Personal Profile A. Age B. Sex C. Educational Attainment D. Civil Status E. Number of Dependents F. Years of Service G. Other Service(s) of Income Dependent Variable Economic status of Duhat Wine Workers in selected Areas of Pangasinan

CHAPTER III METHODOLOGY

Research Design: The study used descriptive method on order to achieve the purpose. To gather the factual information, the questionnaire, observation and interview were used.

Data Gathering Instrument: The researchers used a set of questionnaire to gather facts about the economic status of Duhat Wine workers in selected areas of Pangasinan (Bugallon and Dasol).

The questionnaire consist of three parts. The first part was concerned with the personal profile of the respondents, which includes age, sex, educational attainment, civil status, number of dependents, daily income, years of service and other source (s) of income. The second part was to find out the economic status of Duhat Wine Workers and the last part was to answer what are the problems encountered and the degree of seriousness of the prolem encountered by the Duhat Wine Worker. Before distributing the questionnaire to the respondents, a presurvey was conducted in order to see if the items in the questionnaires were fully understood by the respondents and served as the starting point of the researchers and it would further be thought to become a valid and useful survey.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

But before it was done, a letter of request was made to conduct the survey. After the pre-survey the questionnaire were floated to the respondents. After the approval of the Mayor/Brgy. Captain and managers of the respective cooperatives the survey began. All those workers of Duhat Wine industry of the said cooperative were the respondents. The questionnaire

were distributed and were collated, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT
Cetain statistical tools and techniques were used in the presentation, interpretation and analysis of the data gathered by the researchers. To present the gathered data clearly, the researchers used statistical tables that were properly tabulated. Frequency counts and percentages were used to determine the relationship of the individual data with respect to the whole. A quantitative measurement was used to find out the economic status of Duhat Wine Workers.

The formula for the percentage distribution was: P=F/N (100) Where: P= Percentage F= Frequency N= Number of Respondents

To determine the degree of seriousness of the problem encountered by the Duhat Wine Workers, the researchers computed for the respective average weighted mean (AWM) based on the data gathered using the five point likert scale.

The formula for the average weighted mean is shown below: Weighted Mean = sumfx/N Where: f = frequency unit x = rate of the item (1,2,3,4,5x) To identify the position of an individual or a group is a series of ranks, ranking method is used. Rank 1 variable with the highest frequency Rank 2 variable with the second highest frequency and succeding numbers. N = number of respondents

Fot other rank for the variable with the same frequency R = R1 + R2 / 2 Where: R1 is rank of one variable as arranged in chronological order. R2 is rank of the other variable.

Below is the scale used in measuring the degree of seriousness of the problems encountered by the Duhat Wine Workers:
