Collins Pro Line 21 KEY OWNER/USER BENEFITS Improves situational awareness Enhances information management Increases growth margins

Improves system reliability Enhances display readability Improves maintainability Improves human machine interface Significantly reduces cost of ownership OVERVIEW Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 is a family of advanced avionics system solutions designed to address a wide range of missions. It applies the latest in flight deck design and human factors concepts, sensors and system architecture technologies to provide the robust capabilities needed to address current and future operating requirements. Pro Line 21 is designed with virtually all classes of aircraft in mind from light turboprops to widebody jets. It allows unprecedented flexibility in flight deck configuration and flight display formatting, providing pilots with the flight critical information they need in ways that reduce overall workload while promoting instant, intuitive awareness and control. Flexible system architecture enables new levels of hardware and software independence, allowing Pro Line 21 to be quickly customized to accommodate upgrades and new capabilities as operating requirements evolve. DESCRIPTION Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 provides greater value to the customer and meets the requirements of the evolving operating environment by leveraging recent technological advancements. The Pro Line 21 generation of avionics systems was developed with operational capability, flexibility and growth as the most important requirements. Flight Deck A major emphasis of Pro Line 21 is the design of the flight deck. The investment of technology and system integration expertise has been made to provide major advancements in three key areas: Human Machine Interface (HMI) Information Management Situational Awareness The integration of new emerging capabilities with other functions in the flight deck has required the application of increased levels of human factors technology. This involves more than the ergonomics of control placement and the shape and feel of knobs; it requires a deep understanding of how to help the crew react instinctively to the information provided, even under high-stress situations.

The use of large Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (AMLCDs) allows Pro Line 21 to convey more information and provide unprecedented flexibility in format design. The benefit to the operator is a logical, uncluttered, informative display. Todays AMLCD technology enables Rockwell Collins to bring to market such advanced features as 3-D flight plan map representations and industry-leading Integrated Flight Information System which includes geographical boundaries / water feature depictions, electronic charting and real-time data link weather graphics. With Pro Line 21, these capabilities bring new levels of situational awareness and a more efficient HMI to the flight crew. Intuitive operation is a notable characteristic of the Pro Line 21 flight deck. Pro Line 21 provides a flexible user interface that can be tailored to the needs of individual flight decks. The goal is to provide the needed information, when it is needed. Pro Line 21 shows the information in the most effective location with a simple, natural method for the crew to interact with and manage the information. Pro Line 21 s Head-up Guidance System* (HGS) keeps the focus of the pilot forward to increase situational awareness. Pro Line 21 is designed with a focus on simplicity of operation, reduced workload and superior ability to convey the desired information. Architecture The system architecture is a significant contributor to the value of Pro Line 21. As the foundation of the system, it is designed on the principles of integrity, growth, flexibility and an open architecture. Pro Line 21 achieves new levels in system integrity through a combination of redundancy, segregation, exceptional monitoring and high standards for components and design implementation. The result is a high-integrity, fault-tolerant system. The technology of Pro Line 21 involves hardware and software independence. Future changes in functional requirements can be implemented in software and loaded onto the hardware, without redesign. Likewise, processor upgrades or obsolete components can be accommodated without impact to the existing software functionality. Pro Line 21 supports growth through field-loadable software, enabling changes to be loaded onto the aircraft without removal of the LRU/LRMs. The results: faster and lower-cost availability of future features and capabilities without the need for major system redesign or installation of new equipment The Pro Line 21 system architecture is very flexible and can be configured in a variety of ways to fit a particular mission. For example, a system for a light aircraft may have as few as two or three Adaptive Flight Displays (AFDs), while a long-range heavy jet may opt for five AFDs. Through this flexibility, the best cost versus capability trade-off can be achieved for a given set of mission requirements. The system architecture supports a high degree of interface flexibility through standard ARINC 429 interfaces that enable various types of equipment from various manufacturers to be interfaced with Pro Line 21. TYPICAL SYSTEM Pro Line 21 can be configured to the requirements of nearly any aircraft, from twin-engine

turboprop aircraft through widebody jets, depending on aircraft requirements. System configuration is aircraft specific. Typical systems consist of the following elements: Integrated Avionics Processing System (IAPS) Electronic Flight Information System (EFIS) Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) Integrated Flight Information System (IFIS, consisting of electronic charts, enhanced maps, and graphical weather) Flight Control System (FCS) Flight Management System (FMS) Maintenance Diagnostics System (MDS) Communication System (VHF, HF, Satcom) Navigation System (GPS, VOR, MKR, ILS, DME, ADF) Geophysical Sensors (Air Data, AHRS) Surveillance Sensors (TCAS, Weather Radar, Interface to TAWS) Various Controls for System Elements Please contact Rockwell Collins to discuss specific requirements.
