State of Our Nation

By Bob & Donna Benson

As we travel around the United States in our work, we see a wonderful country, a truly blessed
nation. However; we wonder how long our nation will remain blessed. God blessed and protected Israel
as long as they were seeking him, serving him, and living for him. Israel turned their back on God and He
allowed outside nations to invade, capture, and pillage their country. Therefore consider this: we as a
nation have turned our backs to God, so what can we expect will happen to our nation?

We have removed prayer from our public schools, government meetings, and law. We have allowed
millions of innocent blood to be shed through abortion. Government protects the free speech of
pornographers, but limit preachers. The government pushes homosexual behavior through acceptance
of their life style, but call Christians intolerant when they try to warn people their sin can lead to eternal
death. People working to earn a living and improve their lives are punished through taxes that the
government takes from them to give to those unwilling to work. When was being successful a sin? Yet
those who become successful are the targets for higher taxes, ridicule, and envy. This is supposed to be
the land of opportunity!

Did you know that 75-80 percent of the nation claim to be Christians? However; only 20-25 percent
attends church regularly. Did you know that 62 percent of the people in American now support
separation of church and state? Therefore, many who claim to be a Christian have allowed the world to
influence their thinking. A double minded person cannot affect his world in a positive Christian way.
More importantly, God does not like double minded people.

How can a country founded on Christian principles take the giver of those principles out of
government and expect it to be the same? More importantly, our forefathers never said anything about
separation of church and state as we have it today. In fact, they realized without God and his blessings
our nation would not prevail in the long run. Without Godly men and women governing, our country
would crumble under greed, personal agendas, and power hungry people. That is what is beginning to
happen today at an alarming rate.

All we hear lately is, “We need change.” Many want to change our country into an extension of
Europe. Why would we want to be like them? Their countries have become liberal, “if it feels good do it”
countries. They have become very self-centered, self focused people. They believe they are entitled to
government healthcare, subsidies, and anything else they can think of. (Things have gotten so far out of
what is righteous the Muslins are taking control of many areas of Europe.) In addition, our forefathers all
left those countries to come here because they were oppressed, persecuted, or had some other reason
to leave. They wanted the opportunity to improve their lives and the lives of their families. They wanted
the chance to own their own home, business, or land. They wanted to be able to worship God the way
they wanted to. They wanted a small government that provided for nation defense but little else. Yet
now many want to bring those ideals and the situations that caused many to leave their countries here.
Why? We have a country like no other in the world. Why do many want to change it to something less
than it is? People around the world still cry out to come to the United States, yet those here want to
change it into something else…something with less freedom, individual rights, and less opportunities.
The only change we need is MORE of God in our country, more of God in government, and people
seeking to live Godly and righteous lives.

We have the most wonderful country in the world. We who believe that must stand up and proclaim it
to the world. We need to stand up to those who want to change it. Nothing will ever be perfect in this
world; after all we live in a fallen world. However; God brings order to disorder, righteousness to evil,
and good to the bad. Most people do not realize that without God in the world…it would be awful, evil,
and unlivable as we know it.

The elections are coming up and there is clearly a difference in the candidates. Neither is perfect.
However; there is a clear difference between them. We would ask you to pray that God’s will would
prevail. We ask you to pray that our nation would return to a righteous, God seeking, and blessed
nation.
