You should have practised your subject for this assignment using full pages in your sketchbook, prior to starting on your final outcome. These sketchbook tasks will serve as development and will gain you marks for AO2, AO3
Your final outcome (main peice) will gain you marks for AO4 Also, you need to perform some form of artist research/ links throughout this assignment to gain marks for AO1
You will receive more marks for using: A full range of tone, appropriately with clear knowledge and understanding of light (cause/ effect) Good structure and proportion. Attention to detail(s). A considered background. Thoughtful composition.
This assignment is to be done on A1 (size) drawing paper, and your portrait should fill the drawing space/ area.
The portrait should include neck, shoulders and a considered background, either abstract or realistic.
Read the Assessment Objectives carefully to ensure you know how your work will be marked by clicking on the AFL button on the assignment page.
Use techniques that you have developed in class to help your work develop, using good basic structure.
Ensure that you practise and hone your pencil technique. Your work will improve dramatically by using a range (set) of drawing pencils. Aim to use 2B-9B pencils to achieve full tonal ranges within your work.
Take a look at the YouTube channel on the eLearning site for access to many drawing tutorials. Use these to help you refine your own skills, by copying these into your sketchbook.
Produce a range of alternative self portraits, take many photographs (get a friend to help), and consider: Pose, Mood, Expression and light.

Take time to assess your work as it progresses and make changes where appropriate.
Document your progress by taking regular photographs of your work to show the various stages of development and annotate these in your sketchbook.
Use a sharp pencil for the details in your portrait. Bring out Light by using a rubber to create effect and contrast in your work.
Choose your subject carefully, selecting an original and personal image/ portrait to work from, will make for a much more enjoyable experience, and stronger outcome, possibly resulting in higher marks.
