STRIPED BABY BOXES

Designed By Cynthia Muir

Finished Size: 40 x 53

QUILT PATTERN

Remember this:

Read all instructions before beginning. Yardage requirements are based on 42 wide fabric except for the white solid. I used Kona white solid which is 45 wide. Using 42 wide will work, but requires piecing the vertical borders. All finished measurements are based on using 1/4 inch seams.

Cut this:

Using the chart below, cut the following strips:

Sew this:

Sew one 1.5 white strip lengthwise to each side of one brown strip. Press toward the dark fabric.

Sew one dark pink and one medium green strip to each side of one brown strip. Make a total of 3 strip sets like this. Press in one direction.

Cut more:

Cut strip sets into 1.5 units as shown below:

Sew more:

Sew one side of each 1A unit to 1.5 white strips, leaving 1/4-3/8 between sections, as shown below. Press and cut apart. Sew the other side of 1A units to white strips. Press and cut apart. Trim excess, square to 3.5 x 3.5.

Sew one 1B unit to each un-seamed side of one 2A unit, making sure colors line up across the block. Make a total of 18 like this.

Sew 17 1B units to one side of 3.5 white strips, leaving 1/4-3/8 between sections. Press and cut apart, trimming excess. Sew 17 1B units to opposite side, making sure colors line up across the block.

Sew units 3A and 3B to light pink and dark green strips. Cut apart, press in the same direction as other seams and trim square to 5.5 x 5.5.

Sew & cut a little more:

For vertical sashing: Set aside 4 A blocks and 3 B blocks. Stack the remaining blocks so they are all facing the same direction. Sew ONE striped side of each remaining A & B block to 2 white strips. Iron, cut apart and trim excess. Attach blocks in rows of 5, alternating blocks A & B and finishing each row with one of the blocks set aside.

For horizontal sashing: Cut six 2 white strips to 31.5 and sew between rows. (Refer to quilt layout). For the borders: Measure vertically down the center of the quilt. Cut two 4.25 white strips the length of your measurement (should be approx. 44.5 - if using 42 white solid, piece the extra using leftover 3.5 white strips). Pin and sew vertical border strips. Then measure horizontally across the center of the quilt. Cut two 4.25 white strips the length of your measurement (should be approx. 40). Pin and sew horizontal border strips as shown in the quilt layout.
Finish it:

Quilt and bind as desired. Stand back and admire your work. Dont forget to take a good picture before you give it to the cutest baby you know!
