The HD H-4 and SHD H-4 Connectors are designed for use with ABB Vetco Gray MS-700 s and SMS-700 wellheads, respectively; in deepwater, critical services where high bending loads are anticipated. High preloads allow high bending capacities and give exceptional fatigue life characteristics. The SHD H-4 Connector may also be adapted for use with the standard MS-700 wellhead system.All H-4 connectors are also designed for use with SGwellheads.

E x F HAR H-4 Connector

The E x F HAR H-4Connector is designed for disconnecting with large vessel offset. This connector has the same specifications as the ExF H-4 Connectorwith specific modification for HighAngleRelease.

Locking System Design & Secondary Release System Assure Quick Release
Design of hydraulic piston provides releasing force 23% greater than locking force for same operating pressure, using primary release only. Using primary and secondary release system together results in a releasing force 146% greater than the locking force. Ramping action between faces of locking d o g segments a n d wellhead housing provides an outward radial thrust equal to the vertical pull on the connector, assuring release. Springs between the locking dog segments assist the outward radial thrust.

All MS-700 wellheads have the VX/VT profile, providing an extra sealing surface in the event of damage to the primary VX sealing surface. Additionally,allofABBVetco Gray H-4 w ellhead connectors a lso have an inverted VX/VT profile, enabling the V T gasket to b e s installed inverted in the event of damageto the sealing surface o f the connector.

VT Profile / Gasket
ABB Vetco Gray H-4 connectors, MS-700 and SG subsea wellhead systems are manufactured with the dual taper VX/VT gasket profile with two independent sealing surfaces The secondary VT sealing surface is used when impact, corrosion or washout has damaged the primary VX sealing surface in the wellhead or connector

High Strength Connection

355 degrees circumferential dog ring contact to the four locking grooves of the wellhead/mandrel profile distributes bending and tensile loads uniformly.

Visual Position Indicator Rod

Indicator rod provides positive, visual indication of locked and unlocked position as wellas cam ring travel.

Hydrate Protection
Methane Gas Seal - Large cross-section seal prevents the migration of hydrate forming methane gas into the H-4 Connector. Flush Ports - In the event that hydrates form in the H-4 Connector, hydrate flushing ports located in the upper body will facilitate their removal.

Pressure-tight Self-energizing Seal

Positive compression loading of the seal ring into the corrosion and damage resistant seal surface provides reliable sealing integrity.

Primary and Secondary Hydraulic Circuits

The dual hydraulic operating system generates 23% more releasing force than locking force.

Seal Ring Protection

Connector to wellhead/mandrel interface is self-aligning, which assures that the gasket will not be damaged during makeup.

Positive Mechanical Release

Dog profile design (45 degrees) assures positive retraction of locking dog segments at separation.

VX/VT Back-up Seal Profile

All current H-4 connector designs have the VX/VT seal profile, and are inconel inlayed for corrosion and damage protection.
