Ancient Civilizations Project

October 2010

We have been learning about Ancient Civilizations since September. We have covered a variety of lessons and activities concerning the Greeks and the Romans. We have just begun planning our research project on other civilizations. The students are sharing the same topics, but the project is designed to be completed individually and to be put together as a final presentation. The students will also be evaluated individually. My goal for the project is to have the students acquire a deep knowledge of two (2) features or subject areas of their chosen civilization and to acquire more general knowledge from their group members and from their peer presenters concerning a variety of other civilizations. I am directing and encouraging the students to be clear and concise with this task. The completed product must meet the criteria outlined in the rubric. The students must (1) research and present two features or subject areas, (2) write a 1 page (50-100 words per subject) document clearly explaining the learned knowledge, and (3) create at least one or two artifacts per subject related to the chosen civilization. All drafts of written work must also be submitted. The class and I will be choosing the dates for the presentations and writing them in the rubric provided on the other side of this paper.
