www.compucronic.com Programming your own access card.

This is a Hu card This is a H card The first step is to make sure your programer has the correct firmware installed in it so it can communicate with your type of access card. There is no harm in flashing it over again following the instructions below. The firmware is like DOS for a computer. Firmware can also be thought of as the operating system for the device. The firmware is also commonly known as a "FLASH" and it is stored on a chip called the "ATMEL" We suggest using the flash "UL4S" as it serves a dual purpose. You can use it to both program and unloop a Hu card. The first step is to download a program that contains the latest firmware. It is a .exe file and when you run it, it will create a DOS boot disk. You can then restart your computer while booting off of this new DOS disk and easily perform many firmware updates without worrying about windows com port settings, conflicts and many error messages caused buy running DOS programs though windows. This is perfect even for Windows XP users. You can down load it here <http://www.ontscan.com/dss/downloads/Energisers%20Pure%20DOS%20ATMEL%2 02313%20Flash%20Boot%20Disk%20v13.exe> Setting up your programmer

The following switch Same as any other 6 switch device settings are the same for all programmers that have a bank of selectable switch. You should note that some may have the on and off position reversed. Look carefully at the printing. 1 2 3 4 5 6 off on 1 2 3 4 5 6 off on 1 2 3 4 5 6 off on 1 2 3 4 5 6 off on Factory default Flash mode, used when you load new firmware into your programmer Hu card programming Virgin H card Set the switches to flash mode. (1

and 5 on) Power up your programmer, most of my products come with the necessary cables and adapter. Volts DC regulated. 300 ma or more. The canter pin is +

If you are considering buying a wall power adapter you can purchase of these at Radio Shack. Make sure it is a DC adapter. Read the label carefully because AC adapters will not work. Radio Shack sells these for about $10.00 If you have a programmer that does not have a built in DB9 cable, then you need to purchase purchase a DB9 serial cable that looks this. DB9 Serial Cable NOT a NULL

modem cable.

Male on one end, female on the other.

Restart your computer and boot up on the DOS boot disk you created earlier. Select UL4S (option 21) and let it flash your programmer. If you do not wish to create a DOS boot disk, then you have the option of shelling to DOS from within Windows provided you are not using Windows XP. You can download the UL4S firmware here <http://www.ontscan.com/dss/downloads/ul4s5c7f.zip> Unzip it and run UL4S.exe If you choose to shell to DOS from within Windows, you will see a similar display as shown below. The above photo is for firmware version 5.0 Your window will show UL4S. When the process is finished you can close the window. Set the switches back to Hu card mode. (2 and 5 on) The above is a DOS program that will look for your programmer on COM1 serial port. If it finds your programmer on that serial port it will try and load the firmware onto it. Some common reasons for failure are: Error Message Possible Reason Action Device Not Detected The program did not find your programmer connected to COM1. Plug in the power and hook up the serial port. If your device has a PS/2 connection, this is used for power!!! you need hook up both cables. KAC PS/2 models must have an external DB9 serial cable to complete this function. An external power supply often can correct power problems that many computers have supplying PS/2 powered devices. You should use a 9 volts "DC" center pin + supply. 300ma or more is fine. Make sure the connection you hooked up your programmer really is COM1: You can change it in your cmos configuration. The switches may be set wrong. You are using windows XP and the program can not work with XP unless you boot using a DOS disk. A serial port conflict on your computer such as a modem on COM1 or com3 will cause this error too.

Failed Information sent to the programmer did not verify. This is a common error. There is no error checking until the function is completed. Computer and Programmer timing, just try again. Power supply issues. This is common on PS/2 powered units. Use an external power supply instead of switch 1 and 5 on try just 1 on and the rest off. It makes a big difference for some. Once the firmware has been updated, you need to setup your programmer so it can talk to Hu cards. Set the switches so that 2 and 5 are on and all others are off. 1 2 3 4 5 6 off on Your programmer should now have its operating system installed and be ready to use. We suggest using a freeware program called Extreme Hu. The complete version of ExtremeHu is old and needs to be updated before using it for the first time. Do not use the old version to program your card. It contains bugs that may damage your card. Download and install ExtremeHU version1.6 <http://www.ontscan.com/dss/downloads/ExtremeHU16.zip> It is a zipped file that needs to be opened and run. If you are unsure what a zipped file is, we suggest you visit this site <http://www.winzip.com/> for further reading. When done, exit the program and download Extreme HU Support files <http://www.ontscan.com/dss/downloads/extremehusupportfilesv3.zip> Run it. (This will let you install version 3.4 without having to install all the versions in between) Next download and install ExtremeHU version 3.4 <http://www.ontscan.com/dss/downloads/Extreme%20HU3.4.zip> Install it over version 1.6. It should be in the C:\windows\program files\extremehu directory. You are done installing ExtremeHU. Run ExtremeHU and confirm that it finds your programmer. If everything is OK it will show in green COM1:Ready and Device: Detected

On the bottom if it shows in Red "Device: NOT Detected": - either you do not have the switches set correctly - have not flashed your programmer - or it is not powered up and connected. The next step it to program your card. You now need a file ending in ".bin". This file contains the information you need to load onto your card. There are a number of steps involved in programming a HU card. 1. Run Extreme HU and select "clean card" NOTE: Due to some new dynamic code DTV has sent via the satellite signals to access cards, you might need to unloop

Unlooping Hu cards: If your access card first. you get a message such as Invalid ATR or ATR 00, ATR FF or Extreme Hu attempts to glitch the card for too long, you will have to unloop your card. The repair process may

take from 3 seconds (Mikobu 3) to over an hour but should work 99% of them time. If it does not try changing the switches form 2 and 5 on to just 1 and 5 on. Having an external wall power adapter makes a big difference even if it is powered via the PS/2 connector.

You can leave the setting as shown above. When prompted for a bin file, select what you have been sent or have found to be good. The software will ask you if you are sure and want to continue. Select Yes. This procedure will wipe clean any old information on your card. When this is done, you should be able to clean your card and program it as usual. Once our card is clean, Next under the "card" menu, select "Clone" and "Bin to

You will have the option to Card" select a file. Select the file you have been sent or known to be good. The programming process will begin and in a few seconds you are done. Never plug in the phone line into your receiver and unplug your receiver for 10 minutes, plug it back in and insert your access card. This will insure that your receiver memory has been reset. You might have to wait a few minutes for your card to come alive before you can watch some channels. If you get a message such as "call extension 745 722 etc." the Bin file you used is no

longer valid and you need a new one. Repeat the cleaning and programing process. No need to re flash your programmer.
