Memory Verse Fun!

Psalm 23:3

Memory Verse: Psalm 23: 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Psalm 23: 3 Question: Several years ago, we decided to restore our cabinets in our kitchen. We did it differently. Rather than taking off all the old varnish and re stain, we added a coating that would hold a new color of paint. It took me about 5 layers for each cabinet to make it look just right. I worked hard to make them have a crackled effect. It took time and patience. I purchase a special paint that would give this effect, and it worked just great. Let's take a look in our Bible regarding a certain verse that talks about restoring something. It is found in the book of Psalm. We are going to turn to Psalm 23 verse 3 and read it together. Point out the reference (Psalm 23:3) and tell them that Psalm is in the middle of the Bible. Then say 23 is the chapter or Psalm and 3 is the verse. Have them read the verse together with you a few times. Show them the verse written on the dry erase board in large font. Turn it around so that they cannot see it when you play the game later. You may also display using PowerPoint.

Look at the word "restoreth". To restore is to repair, fix, or rebuild. It also means return or bring back. David was the author of the Psalms and he prayed that God would restore his heart. David had sinned and felt guilty and sad for his sin. God forgave him and gave him peace again. When you do something that you know is wrong which your parents told you not to do, you probably feel guilty? If you get caught and lie about it, you feel even worse. God wants us to come back to him, when these times happen and repent. He will forgive us if we confess to him our sin and tell him we are sorry. Notice the word "righteousness". This represents honesty, good morals, goodness, and honor. When we have confessed our wrong doing and turn away from that kind of behavior, God will look upon our honesty and goodness with honor. He will honor us and lead us in the right path. That is the path of righteousness. If you have failed God, he is here to help you. Call on Him, and He will answer you leading you in the path of righteousness.

GAME Cut out large feet. Place them along in a path across the room. Have the kids step on the feet and say one word of the verse at a time for each step they take. See how far they can go before they need to stop. When they miss a word or say it incorrectly, they get off the path and let someone else take a turn.
