Proong and proof readers When publishing work spell checkers should be used. Due to the live nature of the websites it is not always possible to spot errors before they are published, teachers should buddy up with another teacher to be support for each other to help spot errors or quickly proof read something if needed. Proof readers will be scanning through sites on a regular schedule to help correct errors. Blog Page The main page to be updated on a regular basis is the blog page. For each blog post, categories should be included to make it searchable. - Specialists and Mandarin should include the grade the blog post was about as one of the categories. Specialists and Mandarin should email the link to a blog post theyve written to those grade teachers. Grade teachers will then link to it in their next blog post. - Specialists and Mandarin need to post a blog post for every grade once a month. Blog Comments If the blog commenting feature is switched on it must be set up to be approved rst and linked to your email account. Classes should also develop commenting agreements or guidelines to help students understand how to comment appropriately. These should be published on the home page. Naming and other information Only student rst names should be used on the websites. This includes when students and teachers comment on a blog. No email addresses should be published to the site (this will cause you to get more spam). Photos When posting photos of students please be aware of any student whose image is not permitted to be used on the web. Currently there is only Guadalupe Van Put Lopex G2CML. Viewing password The password for all sites is dragony, this password can be circulated to the Hong Kong Academy community including relatives of the students and other classes around the world. It should not be published openly on the web. Use of the website and blog The website and blog should be used to support the education of the students and communication with the HKA community.

Other Information Creating awareness The class website address should be included in a teachers email signature. At the beginning of the year teachers should actively try to encourage participation in their blogs and set up good communication habits through various strategies. Specialists Specialists and Mandarin should email the link to a blog post they write about a class to that teacher. Administration There are at least two admins per page or website. One is the teacher and the other is Andy. Co-teachers will be added to class websites and other admins can be added on request. Deleting Any deletion of a page, blog post or site is permanent and cannot be undone. Calendar The calendar page and home page agenda is updated centrally from the main HKA calendars. A class teacher can add a section for specic class events or integrate into these calendars for their website. If you want to be integrated into the calendar please approach Andy. Writing Voice You will need to think about the writing voice that you use in your blog posts. Are you writing to your students, their parents or both? Sometimes splitting a blog post and writing to the parents as Dear parents, may help to draw their attention to important information. Attachments and Letters Attachments should be in .pdf format. Letters and information can also be embedded into the site through the embedded document feature which allows for different formats to be downloaded.

Videos and Photos Any photos and videos that are uploaded should be done so in a reduced format. Videos can be quickly resized using the Mac program iSquint. Individual photos should be no larger 400kb. Whist there is no overall limit on photos it should be noted that larger les take more time to be uploaded onto the website and every effort should be made to reduce their size. Videos have a 100mb limit per video. Note: It is possible to quickly resize all photos in a folder in one go using automator on a Mac. Ask Andy for further assistance.
