Treasurer Duties and Tips
Every month there will be a new tip that will help you as treasurer, but before I can start giving you tips you must know all of your duties! So here you will find everything from managing dues to being a good immediate-past. I hope this helps if you were a little confused as to exactly what treasurers do.

Manage Dues
Collect and update member dues into the Membership Update Center. Proceed with dues paying process to Key Club International. Plan on receiving Early Bird Dues Continue recruiting members throughout the year, collecting and submitting dues as needed

Fundraise
Work with club officers and members to plan fundraisers and decide on causes to raise funds for. Record income/expenses and submit to Secretary for the use of Pride Reports As the financial officer, money-related matters are your responsibility and you should be keeping track of finances.

Finance
Prepare a club budget with your board and the advisor, updating it after fundraisers and various expenses Record all transactions Keep records that are accurate and confirm them with the bookkeeper and/or advisor. Be prepared to update advisors, officers, and Kiwanians on clubs financial status

Various
Serve as an exemplary club member, leading by example to help promote Key Club standards of conduct and professionalism Encourage younger and new members to seek leadership roles Continue attending service projects and helping the community Prepare the budget, present it to the board for approval, and ensure that club activities adhere to the budget Maintain accurate financial records Understand school and club policies regarding student financial accounts relating to school organizations

Be a good immediate-past
Transfer all files and records to the incoming treasurer Explain responsibilities and policies, give tips, and show your successor the Membership Update Center. Spread the importance of dues to your club; Give a presentation at a general meeting or orientation about the purpose and value of dues to your club and the function of the district.

Fundraising Ideas and Projects

Because all clubs need to fundraise at some point! Whether it is for a really cool trip your club is making to the zoo for a service project, District Convention 2012, or to donate to your favorite organization. Remember to be creative, there are many ways to perform each of the projects, adjust them to suit your clubs needs and resources.

Carnival Night
o A hall or auditorium can be decorated to suit the theme of the carnival. You can offer a range of activities, such as a cakewalk and weight guessing. Have each of your clubs at your school run a booth with a game each, and all of the money collected goes towards the organization of your choice. Contestants legs are photographed and the pictures are fastened to glass jars. One vote costs a quarter, and the money is placed right in the jar. The jar with the most quarters wins, and the contestant has to shave their leg. Hold a movie night at one of your club officers houses and charge $10 admission. Fun, easy to organize, and an excellent project to hold with your Kiwanis. Invite everyone from your club, school, and Kiwanis club and charge $5 admission. This is an easy project to do on a daily basis in a high school setting or for a district project/district convention. Determine the charity or receiver of funds and advertise this well. Make "paper quarters," and for every $.25 donated, post a paper quarter, perhaps by beginning in the lunchroom or corridor. Determine a goal and end date.

Tips for Dues:

Smoothing Out The Process

-Be sure that your President, Advisor, and School Bookkeeper are all on the same page. This process involves a coordinated effort of 3-4 people and communication is vital. -Begin collecting dues early! My club begins collecting dues at the first meeting and I recommend doing the same. We have had Early Bird Dues for quite a few years now. -Announce to the school that your dues will be collected at the first meeting and set a deadline somewhere in MidSeptember so you are ready to get them in as soon as the system is open and you have your Number and Password. -1-2 weeks before the deadline, contact anyone who has not yet paid and let them know how important it is and that they need to pay dues to be an official Key Club Member.
