REFILL INFORMATION On each page you will find a detailed description of the stand ard refill contained in each pen and the ink colour. Some pens are only available with the standard refill ink colour but many have other refill colours and options available which are also indicated. If you want to change the refill from the standard option there is an extra charge for both the refill and fitting it into the pen. The standard refills that have been removed will be sent to you with your pens. One option to save the cost of changing refill colours is to order our Mix and Match pens.These are indicated clearly in the catalogue and can be assembled into the colour combina tion of your choice including the choice of refill colour at no extra charge. It is also possible to have your choice of refill for indent orders at no extra charge. See page 78 for more information about indenting pens direct from our manufacturers. PURCHASING Pen Trends products are available from your supplier of printed pens or promotional products. ORDERING THE RIGHT COLOUR After choosing the pen you wish to order select the colour option(s) you want. You will notice the correct colour descrip tion under each colour option in the STANDARD COLOURS section for each pen. Always order the exact colour descrip tion corresponding to the one you want as we use these descriptions as product codes in our order system.

PRINTING THE RIGHT COLOUR Printing your logo and message on one of our pens is the most important part of creating a beautiful and effective promotional or gift pen for your company. Our pens come in a wide range of materials and colours and close PMS ink colour matches are best achieved on white or frosted clear pens. As the colour of the pen barrel or clip gets darker the ability to match PMS colours diminishes. Some lighter ink colours print very nicely onto darker pen parts and others do not. Printing the right colour can be a complex issue and if we think the chosen print colours are not right for the pen colour or will only give average results we will make a recommendation on the proof. Another option to ensure your pen is perfect is to order a preproduction sample pen. Please ask for more details and the cost of preproduction samples. PRODUCTION SPECIFICATIONS . INDENT SERVICE
Our indent service is a very effective way of reducing pen costs by buying in bulk. Your pens are made to order and printed or laser engraved in our overseas factories taking advantage of their lower production and printing costs. The pens that we offer an indent service for are indicated under the Indent Options heading on each page. PLASTIC PENS Indenting plastic pens gives you the opportunity to virtually create your own pen. It is possible to select the colour and finish for each individual pen part. PMS colours are possible but accurate matches can only be achieved with solid plastic colours. PMS matches on other finishes will only be approximate. You can also choose your refill colour and special packaging options are available for an extra charge. PLASTIC PEN FINISHES Solid (opaque) Finish This is the normal plastic finish which can be matched accurately to PMS colours. Translucent Finish Translucent finishes are clear plastic with a coloured tint added. PMS matches are difficult to achieve due to the transparent nature of the plastic. Frosted Finish There are two ways to create a frosted finish. The most common is to spray a clear lacquer on a translucent pen part which produces a frosted effect. The other method is to sand blast the mould which produces a matt finish when translucent plastic is moulded. It is possible to achieve approximate PMS colour matches with both methods. Metallic Finish Metallic finishes are achieved by spray ing pen parts with metallic lacquer. Approximate PMS colour matches are possible but of course they are in a metallic colour. Soft Touch Rubber Finish This finish is often used to finish grip parts as it looks and feels like rubber. It cannot be printed so should not be used on parts where printing is required. Soft Touch Rubber Finish can give either a frosted or solid colour finish and approximate PMS colour matches are possible. METAL PENS Metal pens can be indented in any colour or finish with print ing and laser engraving for a minimum of 3,000pcs. The price will vary depending on whether you choose a painted or plated finish. Painted Finishes Painted finishes are achieved by painting the pen parts with a lacquer and then heating them to produce a permanent finish. It is very easy to produce PMS colours with painted finishes. Plated Finishes Plated finishes are produced by electro plating. The pen parts are immersed in a solution containing dissolved metal and an electric current is passed through it. Metal is attracted to the pen barrel and produces a perma nent metal plating. Electro plating is more expensive than painting but produces a much higher quality look and feel to the pen. COMBINED ORDERS One popular cost saving idea is to purchase part of your order from our local production and the balance through our indent service. The print finish and colours on indented pens may vary slightly from our local production and this is unavoidable. PRINTING AREAS AND POSITIONS The printing areas and positions for both printing and laser engraving may vary from our local production. The print areas for indented pens are included under the Indent Printing Positions heading on each page. PROOFS AND PRE PRODUCTION SAMPLES Before production begins you will receive a proof. Once this is okayed the order cannot be cancelled for any reason including late delivery. A pre production sample will then be produced for final approval if required. LEAD TIMES It is important to remember that we achieve considerable savings by consolidating your order with others and sea freight ing them in bulk. The lead time is 92 weeks which can be affected by delays in receiving useable artwork and approval of proofs and pre production samples. From time to time we can also experience production or shipping delays that are beyond our control. It is advisable not to rely on indented pens for specific dates or events that are close to the 92 week lead time. Air freight is an option and this can reduce the lead time to 56 weeks but it also adds considerable expense.
